emily lauderback stewart design and renovation
New box beam ceiling and newly exposed gable windows at peak of house. Transition of molding and drywall remedied through the application of shiplap on the exposed peak ceiling and walls. Boxbeams needed to be problem-solved from original architectural design once under construction. Super gratifying to be part of the team to remedy the design!

Key to the successful design were the homeowner priorities of family health, energy performance, and optimizing the walk-to-town construction site. To maintain health and air quality, the home features a fresh air ventilation system with energy recovery, a whole house HEPA filtration system, radiant & radiator heating distribution, and low/no VOC materials. The home’s energy performance focuses on passive heating/cooling techniques, natural daylighting, an improved building envelope, and efficient mechanical systems, collectively achieving overall energy performance of 50% better than code. To address the site opportunities, the home utilizes a footprint that maximizes southern exposure in the rear while still capturing the park view in the front.

A pair of matching armchairs define the seating area. The dark blue fabric compliments other blues in the room and provides contrast to a french pine armoire that the Bryans had purchased from a friend many years ago.
Porter chose a whimsical shoe pattern for the pillows to reflect the Bryans' livelihood as owners of women's boutique, Knuth's. "They are my favorite!", exclaims Sherri.

This black and white piece above the fireplace really brings out a subtle livelihood to this contemporary and modern style. The white gives a good , clean base which can be refreshing in an earth toned parlor. The absence of framing a positive because the white contrasts so deeply with the darker tile. Good decision
