Another late afternoon photo of the backyard and pool area from a little further out. Off to the right is a large pergola with bluestone counters, built-in sink and grill area with a refrigerator, a linear firepit, a large T-shaped pool with a reef entry, and the pool decking is travertine which is cool on the feet. This is an infinity edge pool with a twist...the waterfall created by the infinity edge faces the house and falls into a large pool at the bottom, so the waterfall can be viewed from the lower level windows and the main floor as well. The duo's primary consideration during the design phase was to create a fully-functioning family home. "We are always thinking about our kids", Novogratz explains. "They needed a place to run around in the city, so putting the gym in was a pretty obvious solution. It may be out of the ordinary, but it is better than having your children skateboarding through the kitchen!" The couple's oldest son, Wolfgang, is a champion basketball player. While the court provides him with a place to hone his skills, it doubles as an entertaining space. "We knew we needed to use the space efficiently so it could work for everything", says the designer. From watching movies on a retractable screen, to hosting a 40-guest Thanksgiving dinner, the gym has proved itself as a good move. It has even been a haunted house! Adrienne DeRosa Photography

Danish modern design showcases spectacular views of the Park City area in this recent project. The interior designer/homeowner and her family worked closely with Park City Design + Build to create what she describes as a “study in transparent, indoor/outdoor mountain living.” Large LiftSlides, a pivot door, glass walls and other units, all in Zola’s Thermo Alu75™ line, frame views and give easy access to the outdoors, while complementing the sleek but warm palette and design.

Tom Holdsworth Photography Our clients wanted to create a room that would bring them closer to the outdoors; a room filled with natural lighting; and a venue to spotlight a modern fireplace. Early in the design process, our clients wanted to replace their existing, outdated, and rundown screen porch, but instead decided to build an all-season sun room. The space was intended as a quiet place to read, relax, and enjoy the view. The sunroom addition extends from the existing house and is nestled into its heavily wooded surroundings. The roof of the new structure reaches toward the sky, enabling additional light and views. The floor-to-ceiling magnum double-hung windows with transoms, occupy the rear and side-walls. The original brick, on the fourth wall remains exposed; and provides a perfect complement to the French doors that open to the dining room and create an optimum configuration for cross-ventilation. To continue the design philosophy for this addition place seamlessly merged natural finishes from the interior to the exterior. The Brazilian black slate, on the sunroom floor, extends to the outdoor terrace; and the stained tongue and groove, installed on the ceiling, continues through to the exterior soffit. The room's main attraction is the suspended metal fireplace; an authentic wood-burning heat source. Its shape is a modern orb with a commanding presence. Positioned at the center of the room, toward the rear, the orb adds to the majestic interior-exterior experience. This is the client's third project with place architecture: design. Each endeavor has been a wonderful collaboration to successfully bring this 1960s ranch-house into twenty-first century living.

Having two young boys presents its own challenges, and when you have two of their best friends constantly visiting, you end up with four super active action heroes. This family wanted to dedicate a space for the boys to hangout. We took an ordinary basement and converted it into a playground heaven. A basketball hoop, climbing ropes, swinging chairs, rock climbing wall, and climbing bars, provide ample opportunity for the boys to let their energy out, and the built-in window seat is the perfect spot to catch a break. Tall built-in wardrobes and drawers beneath the window seat to provide plenty of storage for all the toys. You can guess where all the neighborhood kids come to hangout now ☺
