This home is located on a one acre parcel of land near the banks of the Milwaukee River in the older established subdivision of Sleepy Hollow Estates in Mequon, Wisconsin. The inspiration for this Glen Cove Residence was to bring the desired by many, contemporary and modern lifestyle of a down town loft and establish it in a neighborhood in the suburbs amongst traditional style homes.
Sleepy Hollow Estates like many older established neighborhoods throughout the North shore and Westside communities of Milwaukee had great local architects such as John Randall McDonald and Russell Barr Williamson, who built contemporary master pieces amongst very traditional style homes. This created diversity in the style of homes in these neighborhoods which for the people living in them and the people just passing by, an experience of harmony and cultural lifestyle.
Unfortunately today, many new neighborhood developments lack harmony and cultural lifestyle and don’t allow for homes such as this Glen Cove Residence to be built. And for that matter many of the homes built by John Randall McDonald and Russell Barr Williamson back in the 1950’s. When driving through these new developments, one would experience beautiful traditional style homes, but all the homes tend to look the same. There is no diversity in the styles of homes thus these neighborhoods lack the harmony and a cultural life style for the people who live there or what people are looking for when buying a home that reflects their lifestyle. This Glen Cove Residence is an example that a contemporary home which offers a modern lifestyle that many desires can be established amongst traditional homes while blending in with the neighborhood.
Don’t be fooled by the flat roof of this home, building technology has come a long way since Frank Lloyd Wright! The roof system on this home is more energy efficient than most roof systems builders are putting on traditional homes today and it doesn’t leak! This Glen Cove Residence was built using all traditional building materials that you would see in homes being built in new developments today. There is a misconception out there that modern homes are expensive to build. That is not true! This Glen Cove Residence was built for roughly $130 per square foot which is the same price one would pay for a similar builder’s model traditional style home with the same upgrades.
This Glen Cove Residence consists of three bedrooms and three and one half baths. All bedrooms are located on second floor with laundry, guest bath and a master suite. Located between the first and second floors off of the landing is an office/den space. The first floor is open concept with the kitchen, dining and living areas located at the rear of the home with expansive windows allowing a great connection to back yard area and outdoors. On the back of the home is a covered deck area allowing for outdoor entertaining without the worry of the elements. The first floor also offers a powder room, mudroom and walk-in pantry off the kitchen area. From the mudroom there is access to an attached four car tandem garage. From the first floor to the finished basement is an open stair allowing the basement area to feel as part of the house and not just a basement? The basement consists of a main living area, game area with wet bar, exercise room, kids play room with 14’ ceilings, full bathroom and mechanical room with storage closets throughout.

Paying due respect to a vintage 1960’s modern house, this project renovated the original structure while opening its interior to a spacious addition to accommodate casual living spaces and additional bedrooms for the client’s growing family. The property is located 30 minutes by train from Grand Central Station, but the large trees and proximity to the Hudson River lend the setting a bucolic feel.

Spectacular unobstructed views of the Bay, Bridge, Alcatraz, San Francisco skyline and the rolling hills of Marin greet you from almost every window of this stunning Provençal Villa located in the acclaimed Middle Ridge neighborhood of Mill Valley. Built in 2000, this exclusive 5 bedroom, 5+ bath estate was thoughtfully designed by architect Jorge de Quesada to provide a classically elegant backdrop for today’s active lifestyle. Perfectly positioned on over half an acre with flat lawns and an award winning garden there is unmatched sense of privacy just minutes from the shops and restaurants of downtown Mill Valley.
A curved stone staircase leads from the charming entry gate to the private front lawn and on to the grand hand carved front door. A gracious formal entry and wide hall opens out to the main living spaces of the home and out to the view beyond. The Venetian plaster walls and soaring ceilings provide an open airy feeling to the living room and country chef’s kitchen, while three sets of oversized French doors lead onto the Jerusalem Limestone patios and bring in the panoramic views.
The chef’s kitchen is the focal point of the warm welcoming great room and features a range-top and double wall ovens, two dishwashers, marble counters and sinks with Waterworks fixtures. The tile backsplash behind the range pays homage to Monet’s Giverny kitchen. A fireplace offers up a cozy sitting area to lounge and watch television or curl up with a book. There is ample space for a farm table for casual dining. In addition to a well-appointed formal living room, the main level of this estate includes an office, stunning library/den with faux tortoise detailing, butler’s pantry, powder room, and a wonderful indoor/outdoor flow allowing the spectacular setting to envelop every space.
A wide staircase leads up to the four main bedrooms of home. There is a spacious master suite complete with private balcony and French doors showcasing the views. The suite features his and her baths complete with walk – in closets, and steam showers. In hers there is a sumptuous soaking tub positioned to make the most of the view. Two additional bedrooms share a bath while the third is en-suite. The laundry room features a second set of stairs leading back to the butler’s pantry, garage and outdoor areas.
The lowest level of the home includes a legal second unit complete with kitchen, spacious walk in closet, private entry and patio area. In addition to interior access to the second unit there is a spacious exercise room, the potential for a poolside kitchenette, second laundry room, and secure storage area primed to become a state of the art tasting room/wine cellar.
From the main level the spacious entertaining patio leads you out to the magnificent grounds and pool area. Designed by Steve Stucky, the gardens were featured on the 2007 Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club tour.
A level lawn leads to the focal point of the grounds; the iconic “Crags Head” outcropping favored by hikers as far back as the 19th century. The perfect place to stop for lunch and take in the spectacular view. The Century old Sonoma Olive trees and lavender plantings add a Mediterranean touch to the two lawn areas that also include an antique fountain, and a charming custom Barbara Butler playhouse.
Inspired by Provence and built to exacting standards this charming villa provides an elegant yet welcoming environment designed to meet the needs of today’s active lifestyle while staying true to its Continental roots creating a warm and inviting space ready to call home.

The English-made wall tile is glazed in an iridescent light gray and, along with polished nickel fixtures, provides reflective shine and warmth to the space. A barrel vault ceiling pays homage to the ceiling of the original bathroom, and natural marble countertops and mosaic flooring add authenticity and traditional character. A soaking tub, walk-in shower with a sitting bench, and separate water closet completes this luxurious master bathroom.

Having worked with Riverside before on two previous home remodeling projects, this Lafayette couple came back a third time to renovate their master bathroom—paying us the highest compliment.
While the overall layout of the master bathroom still worked for this couple, they were looking to improve the utility of their space by replacing an unused bathtub with a spa-inspired glass-enclosed shower. Also important was updating the dated materials to reflect a more current style that made them feel good.
Design decisions started with painting the stark purple walls a ‘Mindful Gray’ by Sherwin Williams. Next, our clients chose a furniture-inspired dual vanity topped with a ‘Colonial White’ granite countertop. The zero-entry, glass enclosed shower features an elegant stainless steel linear drain, Delta dual shower heads, a purposeful shower niche, and Emser pebble tile floors. An added bonus: Corner space left from the removal of the tiny original shower was converted into a convenient linen closet for additional storage.

The husband's want for contemporary design with the wife's need for a relaxing spa environment inspired this master remodel.

A SOULFUL TRIBUTE

Step into an immersive exploration of Questlove’s career, influences, and contributions to art and music that is filled with significance and detail. A stunning piece of salvaged church architecture frames saintly images of people who influenced and inspired Questlove.
J Dilla, who Questlove has called “the greatest rap producer of all time,” is the saint of Mixology. Odetta is the saint of Spirituals. Amiri Baraka is the saint of Poetry. Late Roots manager, Richard Nichols, is the saint of Ecology and Growth, and Fela Kuti - the Godfather of Afro-Beat, is the saint of Musicianship.
Each detail in the room was selected for both it’s significance and aesthetics. A vintage optometrist machine reminds us to maintain our clarity and vision, player piano scrolls become inspirational wallpaper, and a KISS coffee mug nods to Questlove’s admitted childhood “obsession” with the band, and his controversial vote for them to be admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“The opportunity to do a personal space for Questlove was a chance to pay tribute someone who has shaped generations of music. I spent weeks researching Questlove’s career and influences - pouring over old interviews, watching and listening to performances… in the hope I would get close to ‘the roots’ of his personal journey and create something that he would love.” - Kyla

A diamond in the rough was polished to a new brilliance in this remodel. Moving the kitchen to be front and center of everything was the key to this remodel. Carrying the motif of less is more, this remodel emphasized the qualities this Parisian-styled home had with a modern open floor plan. Working through different design studies with the client, we identified the optimum layout and created space for an additional bedroom. Fusing old world details with contemporary living, we ensured the rehabilitation pays homage to its original detailing while expressing a bold narrative, delicately balanced within the original structural framework. Careful detailing of the structural elements ensured the work could proceed without affecting the unit below. Completed in 2014, this home now offers its young family the full urban experience of stylish San Francisco living.

Our clients wanted to explore all their options for creating a beautiful and practical new space, even if it meant moving a couple walls. This is where it pays to hire a company that offers both design and construction services! Our designer, Stephanie, worked closely with our contractor team to create a brand new layout that suited our clients style and practical needs. We determined we could make room for a spacious new walk-in shower by stealing some space from the guest bathroom on the other side of the wall (which we also remodeled). We also saved some space by installing a pocket door and a wall-hung toilet, which takes up less space than a traditional toilet. This freed up a ton of space for a large, custom double-vanity. Throw in some new lighting, a fresh coat of paint, and a new tile floor, and the result is a gorgeous new master bathroom that is almost completely unrecognizable!
