"Morpurgo Architects. Firm’s Aesthetic Spans the Centuries." American Builders Quarterly. March/April 2011.
"Morpurgo Architects’ contemporary design is known for a sculptural quality that is evidenced in the flowing shapes, overlapping forms, and soaring heights. Morpurgo has characteristically created distinctive spaces that exhibit an interplay of defining light and distinctive volumes."
– American Builders Quarterly
The steep topography of this site inspired Morpurgo Architects to situate this house on a promontory and design sweeping rooflines that float above expansive windows following the contours of the hill. The resulting dramatic interior spaces provide large open areas for family activity and interaction. The soaring, two-story entrance offers an unencumbered view of the gardens beyond the house.
Beneath a large, curved window wall, we designed a long credenza that incorporates an aquarium. It is one of many pieces of built-in and freestanding furniture throughout the house that is integral to the total aesthetic.
To ensure immediacy to their sons and privacy for the couple, we located the children’s rooms on a mid-level between their parents’ master bedroom suite and the living spaces. This programmatic requirement, along with the dynamic site, established the design configuration for this distinctive home.

Founders, Melinda Joy Miller (author of the Shamanic Gardening: Timeless Techniques for the Modern Sustainable Garden) and Kim Colwell, her daughter and interior designer collaborated on this special garden project. See press for 5 page spread in Pasadena Magazine and interviews with the partners. Each gardening project utilizes their background as feng shui masters, as well as Kim's background as an interior designer. The special sauce in our projects are Melinda Joy's extensive and comprehensive approach to gardening which includes her being a medicine woman, cultural anthropologist, and expert in permaculture, sustainable gardening, and herbology.

PROJECT
Square Footage: 2,500 sqft luxury condo in the heart of Toronto
Project Type: Vantage Distributed RadioLink
Challenge: A two bedroom condo with large open spaces with a goal to easily set scenes and control lighting, audio & video and shading.
Benefits: The new Vantage IC DIN II Lite controller provides a complete automation solution and added measure of comfort dramatic lighting scenes. The homeowner is able to enjoy preset lighting scenes throughout the home. The use of sophisticated EasyTouch II keypads allows the owner to alter the mood at the touch of a button. The welcome button on the EasyTouch II dimmer by the front door lights a pathway to his common area, opens all blinds and sheers and turns on his favourite music to set the mood. When the homeowner sits down to relax, they can control the lighting, drapes, fireplace and his audio and video entertainment with either the Vantage Equinox app on his iPhone or iPad, or by using their RTI T2i two-way radio frequency remotes. They can even lower the TV from the ceiling in the master bedroom. And when it is time to retire, either a press of a button on an EasyTouch II dimmer or on the RTI remote will turn off every light, TV and AV source, the fireplace and close the drapes.

This 1950’s mid century ranch had good bones, but was not all that it could be - especially for a family of four. The entrance, bathrooms and mudroom lacked storage space and felt dark and dingy.
The main bathroom was transformed back to its original charm with modern updates by moving the tub underneath the window, adding in a double vanity and a built-in laundry hamper and shelves. Casework used satin nickel hardware, handmade tile, and a custom oak vanity with finger pulls instead of hardware to create a neutral, clean bathroom that is still inviting and relaxing.
The entry reflects this natural warmth with a custom built-in bench and subtle marbled wallpaper. The combined laundry, mudroom and boy's bath feature an extremely durable watery blue cement tile and more custom oak built-in pieces. Overall, this renovation created a more functional space with a neutral but warm palette and minimalistic details.

With both masculine and feminine influences, the transitional Botanic lighting collection by Feiss is a study in contrast. The spun metal drum captures the richness of an antique patina with natural variations. Then, elevating the piece is a dynamic Clear Pressed glass diffuser with a subtle floral gesture, which is then highly polished to generate breathtaking sparkle for a wholly modern look. The light fixtures are offered in two rich finishes: Aged Pewter and Dark Aged Brass, the assortment includes a large 4-light pendant, a 1-light mini-pendant, and two 3-light flush mount ceiling fixtures. The light fixtures can easily be converted to Fluorescent or LED lamping.
