When planning this custom residence, the owners had a clear vision – to create an inviting home for their family, with plenty of opportunities to entertain, play, and relax and unwind. They asked for an interior that was approachable and rugged, with an aesthetic that would stand the test of time. Amy Carman Design was tasked with designing all of the millwork, custom cabinetry and interior architecture throughout, including a private theater, lower level bar, game room and a sport court. A materials palette of reclaimed barn wood, gray-washed oak, natural stone, black windows, handmade and vintage-inspired tile, and a mix of white and stained woodwork help set the stage for the furnishings. This down-to-earth vibe carries through to every piece of furniture, artwork, light fixture and textile in the home, creating an overall sense of warmth and authenticity.

A master bedroom fit for a bed and breakfast! This client wanted to feel at home, yet on vacation at all times in their space. We combined the calming colors of grey blue and green with cream and white to achieve a soft, subtle appearance. Through unique textures such as grasscloth and velvet, we brought different feels throughout the space. A separate sitting area with custom built in cabinetry and glass light fixture provides a space for the client to "live" without disturbing their bed area.

We transformed a Georgian brick two-story built in 1998 into an elegant, yet comfortable home for an active family that includes children and dogs. Although this Dallas home’s traditional bones were intact, the interior dark stained molding, paint, and distressed cabinetry, along with dated bathrooms and kitchen were in desperate need of an overhaul. We honored the client’s European background by using time-tested marble mosaics, slabs and countertops, and vintage style plumbing fixtures throughout the kitchen and bathrooms. We balanced these traditional elements with metallic and unique patterned wallpapers, transitional light fixtures and clean-lined furniture frames to give the home excitement while maintaining a graceful and inviting presence. We used nickel lighting and plumbing finishes throughout the home to give regal punctuation to each room. The intentional, detailed styling in this home is evident in that each room boasts its own character while remaining cohesive overall.

This show stopper, Houston Heights, impressive master bath proves just how much you can do when your space is limited. Universal Gray Sherwin Williams was used throughout the house. White shaker cabinetry with 10" chrome cabinet handles. Venatino Quartz was used to give a bit of warmth. Vintage and chrome 3 piece faucets with square undermount sinks and crystal lighting to give this place a bit of shimmer.

Designed for the 2013 Traditional Home Magazine Napa Valley Showhouse, this sophisticated master bedroom suite highlights a mix of antique and modern pieces for a transitional look that can withstand the test of time. A navy and green master bedroom evokes the organic elegance of Napa’s lush vineyards. For the master bath, we selected marble-topped vanities and a freestanding tub for a sense of luxurious serenity.

Situated on the north shore of Birch Point this high-performance beach home enjoys a view across Boundary Bay to White Rock, BC and the BC Coastal Range beyond. Designed for indoor, outdoor living the many decks, patios, porches, outdoor fireplace, and firepit welcome friends and family to gather outside regardless of the weather. From a high-performance perspective this home was built to and certified by the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home program and the EnergyStar program. In fact, an independent testing/rating agency was able to show that the home will only use 53% of the energy of a typical new home, all while being more comfortable and healthier. As with all high-performance homes we find a sweet spot that returns an excellent, comfortable, healthy home to the owners, while also producing a building that minimizes its environmental footprint. Our mission was to completely update and transform their huge house into a cozy, welcoming and warm home of their own. “When we moved in, it was such a novelty to live in a proper house. But it still felt like the in-law’s home,” our clients told us. “Our dream was to make it feel like our home.” Our transformation skills were put to the test when we created the host-worthy kitchen space (complete with a barista bar!) that would double as the heart of their home and a place to make memories with their friends and family. We upgraded and updated their dark and uninviting family room with fresh furnishings, flooring and lighting and turned those beautiful exposed beams into a feature point of the space. The end result was a flow of modern, welcoming and authentic spaces that finally felt like home. And, yep … the invite was officially sent out! Our clients had an eclectic style rich in history, culture and a lifetime of adventures. We wanted to highlight these stories in their home and give their memorabilia places to be seen and appreciated. The at-home office was crafted to blend subtle elegance with a calming, casual atmosphere that would make it easy for our clients to enjoy spending time in the space (without it feeling like they were working!) We carefully selected a pop of color as the feature wall in the primary suite and installed a gorgeous shiplap ledge wall for our clients to display their meaningful art and memorabilia. Then, we carried the theme all the way into the ensuite to create a retreat that felt complete.

AV Architects + Builders Location: McLean, VA, USA A gracious master suite retreat featuring tray ceiling; spacious his/her walk-in closets with custom built-ins. 1528 Forrest Villa is situated in the heart of McLean, VA in a well-established neighborhood. This unique site is perfect for this modern house design because it sits at the top of a hill and has a grand view of the landscape. We have designed a home that feels like a retreat but offers all the amenities a family needs to keep up with the fast pace of Northern VA. The house offers over 8,200 sqft of luxury living area on three finished levels. The second level offers a master suite with an expansive custom his/her walk-in closet, a master bath with a curb less shower area, a free-standing soaking tub and his/her vanities. Additionally, this level has 4 generously sized en-suite bedrooms with full baths and walk-in closets and a full size laundry room with lots of storage. The materials used for the home are of the highest quality. From the aluminum clad oversized windows, to the unique roofing structure, the Nichiha rectangular siding and stacked veneer stone, we have hand-picked materials that stand the test of time and complement the modern design of the home.
