Nestled under 150 year old pecan and oak trees, we carefully and thoughtfully preserved and restored this rare 1928 Federal Style Craftsman near downtown Atlanta, while adding a new 2 story, 1,000 sf addition in the back. The addition, like the house boasts, 10 foot ceilings, yet is sited in a way to seamlessly blend with the original house, without dominating the unique original structure.

This existing home was originally built circa 1919, and was ready for a major renovation. As was characteristic of the period in which the home was built, the existing spaces were small and closed in. The design concept included removing walls on first floor for a thoroughly updated and open living / dining / kitchen space, as well as creating a new first floor powder room and entry. Great care was taken to preserve and embrace original period details, including the wood doors and hardware (which were all refinished and reused), the existing stairs (also refinished), and an existing brick pier was exposed to restore some of the home’s inherent charm. The existing wood flooring was also refinished to retain the original details and character. This is a beautiful white oak floor in a random width of 3", 4" and 5". This rustic floor shows the natural characteristics of white oak including pin knots, mineral streaks and natures variation of color.

Absolute Black Polished Granite is an elegant black granite with a small scale black on black patterning and a polished finish. This stone is ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.

For this project, our client came to us looking for a full-service company to build a custom, high-efficient new home with minimal exterior maintenance. In order to achieve this, we used a different medium of product, including split-faced concrete block to natural cedar siding, both of which require zero maintenance. The design throughout was congruent with the contemporary farmhouse aesthetic and highly-efficient goal of the client and adhering to the energy standards of Efficiency Vermont. A few of the features included a finished concrete floor, a cutting-edge wood-fired boiler system to efficiently heat the home.
