A larger foyer was created by removing a cumbersome millwork unit. Folding glass panels open the new kitchen to the view. Two, discrete bathrooms were created from one large one. All mechanical and electrical systems were updated, and each of the windows replaced to meet stringent preservation requirements. A neutral palette for the interiors was chosen to bring a sense of calm to the urban surroundings.

Zola European WindowsLocated in an existing neighborhood of post-war houses, Skidmore Passivhaus merges contemporary design with the highest level of energy efficiency. Gernerous insulation, extremely airtight construction (tested at .32ach50), high performing triple glazed Zola European Windows, and a super-efficient heat recovery ventilator allow the structure to meet the stringent requirements of the German Passivhaus standard. Generous amounts of south facing glazing (0.5 shgc) maximize the solar gains for most of the year, while motorized exterior aluminum shades can be lowered to block unwanted summer heat gain resulting in extremely comfortable temperatures year round. An extensive green roof helps manage all stormwater on site, while a roof mounted 4.32 kW PV array provides enough electricity to result in a near net zero and truly sustainable building.

Does this type of finish require additional maintenance which I am not familiar with?
For weekly cleaning, oiled floors use a special cleaner which contains an oil and soap mixture. After a period of 12-18 months some oil may evaporate causing the wood grains to appear dry. An additional layer of oil can be reapplied to keep the floor looking fresh. Although oil finished floors require more involvement in periodic maintenance in high traffic areas, this maintenance can be done much easier than the equivalent of an onsite sand and refinish.
WOCA Master Color Oil contains pigment, which provides a single-step hardwood floor staining process. Laying down the stain and the finish in one step.
This product comes 14 different colors, from Black to Extra White, and you can mix them freely to create various color palettes that will meet the demands of any job.

Hierarchy Architecture + Design, PLLCMaster bathroom with an elegant freestanding bathtub underneath a traditional light fixture and finished with varying white & gray patterned tiling in this updated 1940's Custom Cape Ranch. Chevron floor tiling. The classically detailed arched doorways and original wainscot paneling in the living room, dining room, stair hall and bedrooms were kept and refinished, as were the many original red brick fireplaces found in most rooms. These and other Traditional features were kept to balance the contemporary renovations resulting in a Transitional style throughout the home. Large windows and French doors were added to allow ample natural light to enter the home. The mainly white interior enhances this light and brightens a previously dark home.

JAMES DIXON ARCHITECT PCWe were hired to transform this small apartment into a tranquil pied-a-terre. Perched atop an historic landmark, the unit features unparalleled views of Manhattan. However, the layout was awkward and the finishes dated. One of the many challenges was staying within the confines of the numerous structural columns and plumbing risers.
A larger foyer was created by removing a cumbersome millwork unit. Folding glass panels open the new kitchen to the view. Two, discrete bathrooms were created from one large one. All mechanical and electrical systems were updated, and each of the windows replaced to meet stringent preservation requirements. A neutral palette for the interiors was chosen to bring a sense of calm to the urban surroundings.
