They wanted a contemporary kitchen with a practical peninsula layout that seamlessly integrates cooking, dining, and storage. For this kitchen, we selected Nolte Plus anti-fingerprint cabinetry for a sleek and low-maintenance finish. The Lava tone was paired with Sahara and Chalet Oak accents, adding warmth and depth to the overall design. Integrated Black MatrixArt handle lighting adds a sophisticated touch, enhancing both form and function. The worktops feature 20mm Silestone Coral Clay complemented by Chalet Oak for a luxurious yet durable surface. This project comprises a 400-squarefoot accessory dwelling unit (ADU), a 1,200-square-foot two-story addition to the main residence, and new landscape design. The homeowners, a young family seeking more space, wanted a solution that would allow them to stay in their neighborhood rather than relocate to a larger home. The renovation and addition to the main house included a full remodel of the kitchen, primary suite, two children’s bedrooms, and a half bath. The new ADU—designed as flexible space for guests and play has since evolved into a productive home office (adapting seamlessly to the family’s shift to remote work in early 2020). To meet the clients’ tight timeline, the project was strategically divided into three separate building permits, allowing construction to begin earlier and proceed efficiently. The ADU is conditioned with a high-efficiency heat pump system, contributing to the home’s overall energy performance.

This kitchen was designed to meet the needs of a quadriplegic client who had only the limited use of one arm and very limited use of the other hand. She was unable to reach more than 12" across the counter and not at all to the upper cabinets. Every appliance and cabinet is geared for easy accessibility for her to make her own meals. The two upper cabinets have mechanized pull-downs on a remote with the rest of the cabinetry either pull-outs or drawers.

I have been working as a kitchen and bath designer in the Pacific Northwest for 13 years. I love engaging with new clients, ascertaining their needs through various interviews and meetings and then collaborating as we build their finished concept together. The variety of design styles, room layouts and function changes so much between one person and the next that no two finished products are remotely the same. This fluidity allows for endless possibilities for exploration in my field. It keeps the job interesting and has always given me a particular sense of reward and accomplishment as we near completion. The greatest personal recompense in this chosen profession is being able to walk with a client through this process and come out the other side with that client feeling elated with the end result.

Located in the sophisticated yet charming Jackson Square neighborhood of San Francisco, this office inhabits a building that was built in 1907. We used industrial elements brick, glass, steel, wood, brass, and painted concrete, opting for simplicity and utility over adornment. In the same spirit of industrial honesty, plumbing pipes, data, and electrical are left visible in the open ceiling. Our studio was entrusted to bring elegant comfort to the interior with carefully curated, custom-designed furniture and decor. From a blank canvas, the home was enlivened with walnut furnishings by Portuguese producers, warm-hued textiles in botanical motifs, and accents of delicate brass lighting. The entryway leads toward a spacious living room, where hand-woven rugs delineate areas for different activities. The first features a dining collection with upholstered shell chairs that comfortably envelop end-of-evening conversation. Midway, a daybed and display shelving system nestled under the lowered ceiling offer an intimate, yet versatile space.
