This private residence boasts of old-world masonry with Classic Italian Palladian Architecture. The architect designed this 6-14 acre creekside property around the 29,000 square-foot home. The estate incorporates a four-car garage inclusive of servants quarters, and a pool cabana/pavilion. Expansive areas of hardscape connect buildings on the property. The main exterior cladding is Texas Lueders Limestone. It was used for wall panels as well as plinths, window surrounds, balustrade assemblies, solid columns, and cornices. In a method of old-world construction, the limestone was fabricated to plus zero in tolerance to accomodate 1/8" lime-mortar joints. "Border Stones" were utilized with the lime-mortar joints system to interlock the stone facade to the CMU wall behind. Large stone column and window assemblies make up th east and west facades. These load-bearing elements support the pediment assemblies and structure above. The arches at the Pavilion were also designed as load-bearing, where pediment kneelers were cut from two separate carved pieces and epoxied together. Weighing 7,200 lbs each, the kneelers had to be set with a 180 ton crane in order to reach over two very large existing oak trees. The garage and pool cabana were constructed with the same stone cladding system, and with similar load-bearing elements.

Richard's decision to go with Lista was made as methodically as his latest turned masterpiece. "I did some research, and Lista quickly moved to the top of the list, primarily because I was looking for flexibility in cabinet size, in drawer size to hold all my different size tools, and partitioning to keep them organized. A rear yard addition that takes a tiny wartime one and a half storey and transforms it into a spacious, airy modern home. The steel frame which opens up the back of the old house, and supports the new roof ridge, is left exposed and becomes a primary design feature of the new space. The renovation of Maison Gray was an ambitious project, marked by technical challenges to transform this 1960s residence into a modern and bright living space. Due to urban planning constraints, it was impossible to completely demolish the house. Therefore, a progressive approach was adopted, methodically deconstructing and rebuilding each wall while keeping the roof in place with temporary supports. This required rigorous coordination between the demolition and construction teams, who worked in parallel to successfully complete the large-scale project. Major structural and framing work allowed for the roof slopes to be redefined and the creation of a double-height space, a central feature of the house's new architecture. Despite the complexity of the project, the work was completed in a relatively short period, an impressive achievement for such a large-scale transformation. Thanks to meticulous execution, the house was practically rebuilt from scratch, with a mezzanine and new spaces arranged in half-levels within a generous volume. The tall arch on the façade marks the vaulted entrance leading to an open living space in double height, naturally lit by a skylight and large windows opening to the garden. Achieving these elements and alignments required great precision, with every architectural detail, from curves to openings, carefully executed to create a fluid and harmonious flow. Sangaré Studio designed the interior with natural materials in soft tones, creating intimate and fluid spaces. Built with care, Maison Gray offers a welcoming and soothing environment, allowing the family to enjoy spaces designed for comfort and tranquility.
