Inspiration for a tropical living room remodel in New York

THE KITCHEN & NOOK; spaces as defined by ten-foot Stone Archways. Beyond the sliding french doors, the Archways continue outward creating the large exterior covered porch of the Nook and Master Bedroom east walls. Above is a skylight, centered between wood stained beams within a recessed niche. Wall cabinets are of natural Cherry wood, while the island is Alder with a dark stain finish. Beautiful Hand-made glass tiles create a mosaic of color for accent. Beyond, the sliding French Doors open into the large covered porch, where one can see the belly of the traditional Mexican clay tile roofing shingles between the stained wood nailers.

Huge thank you to Cantina Del Centro for trusting me to help with their new Kelowna BC location. So much fun to collaborate on the design plan built around the gorgeous, vibrant colours of the authentic Mexican floor tiles. This was such fun project to be part of.

Louis G. Weiner Photography - Our clients loved the vacation feel of the Mexican saltillo tile that were already in the home they purchased. Although they were ready for a major update, they wanted the design to include the existing flooring. This required Team Lockwood to come up with a design plan that stayed within the existing footprint of the home without damaging any of the flooring. We believe we rose to the challenge! The result is a total update of this home that uses the rich colors of a Villa in Greece as inspiration! The new kitchen is fresh, light, and bright. The two full bath remodels are warm and inviting and finish off this vacation home remodel for our wonderful Canadian clients.

This San Juan Capistrano Resident transformed their existing grass exterior into a beautiful drought tolerant landscape using Mexican Beach Pebbles in the Buff color, Desert Gold boulders, and El Cid Flagstone. Kirk Bianchi created this resort like setting for a couple from Mexico City. They were looking for a contemporary twist on traditional themes, and Luis Barragán was the inspiration. The outer walls were painted a darker color to recede, while floating panels of color and varying heights provided sculptural interest and opportunities for lighting and shadow.

Modern meets classic. The flooring tile in this picture is our 12x12 Saltillo regular square tile in its natural color variations. They are sealed with our oil based sealer (semi gloss). You can also have the Saltillo tile stained and sealed in brick red, antique birch, soft brown, walnut, or white wash. Other sealed options are glossy, and matte. The beautiful Talavera tile on the kitchen counter and backsplash are in the following patterns: T31 blue large angle 2x4, T31 off white 4x4, SP1 decorative Talavera 4x4 (special design). Theses tiles are sold per piece. (Saltillo tidbits: The area of Saltillo Mexico where the tile is made has the proper mix of clay, climate, and dedicated workers to produce one of the world's most popular tiles. Saltillo tiles are not merely "sundried", they are also kiln fired. The way in which these tiles are stacked and positioned in the kiln produces their natural shading and range of colors. The stripping is caused by the overlapping of tiles when they are stacked in the kiln). We also carry Saltillo regular square in 4x4, 8x8, and 16x16, or in Super (round edges) in 12x12. Questions? This front yard had some great plants to start with. We relocated some, and added a selection of colorful, drought tolerant shrubs and succulents. The result is a pretty and colorful garden.
