This newly built home has everything a growing family could want - from customized cubbies to a room divider that can double as a buffet. Our designer created a traditional kitchen, that includes fun details like a freezer drawer stocked with Dad’s favorite ice cream. The coffered ceiling, custom hearth hood and tall paneled cabinetry add to the grandeur of the space. KraftMaid Cabintery The traditional cabinetry is from KraftMaid, in Patterson door style painted “Canvas” with a Cocoa glaze. The kitchen features an arched hearth setting with pull-outs on each side and arched mullion doors flanking the 48” range. The island includes a raised countertop for homework and casual dining, while hiding the prep area. Design details abound. Notice the fluted columns, tile detailing, and how the open area in the coffered ceiling matching the island’s shape. Just off the kitchen in a beverage center and a bar with four temperature-controlled lines for dispensing both white and red wines at the exact temperatures. We also designed cubbies at the garage entry so boots and coats can be stored for each family member, including a shelf sized for Dad’s hard hat. The designer also designed the bathrooms upstairs and the laundry, giving this young family a home that can grow with them. Appliances SubZero refrigerator/freezer, beverage center and freezer drawer. Wolf 48” gas range, hood liner and microwave. Dacor wine station. A Los Angeles couple relocating to Connecticut was drawn to the bucolic setting of this house in New Canaan. Though the mid-century, quasi-Colonial structure had few striking architectural details, Shelley Morris focused on the high ceilings and ample windows to create light-filled, tranquil spaces. New arched doorways add architectural interest. The light palette in the living and dining rooms imbue the house with the feeling of a rural retreat.
