Tiered walls made of natural moss rock stone to eliminate small, but difficult to maintain, slope in the front yard. Wall was set on a poured footing, built with cinder block, and faced with moss rock. Plantiings were chosen to blend with the existing landscape and handle sun/shade conditions. Area was converted to drip irrigation for the walls to better control volume of water to the planted areas vs. the sodded front yard area.

A flagstone staircase leading to a flagstone patio turned this hillside into a focal point. Landscape lighting illuminates the walkway and patio at night, creating an inviting entertaining area.

Sage greens, earthy-reds, and vibrant chartreuse makes 'moss rocks' highly desirable boulder accents in this water feature. Locally available along Colorado's 'Front Range', moss rocks are covered with lichen and dark green moss that gives a new water feature, an 'old & established' feel of a wilderness area.

Building a Dream Backyard
When this homeowner started the design process of a new backyard, Braen Supply was immediately there to supply all the stone materials. The home was part of a new development, so the challenge was to make the home stand out while still addressing specific areas of the existing backyard, such as the steep grade.
Working With the Experts
Taking the steep grade into consideration, moss rock boulders were selected to create stairs down to the lower area of the backyard where the fire pit sits. The grade of the backyard also allowed for the infinity pool, full color bluestone pattern was selected as the veneer for the back wall of the infinity pool.
Braen Supply chose Tennessee gray and bluestone to create a seamless transition from the front of the house to the back of the house. Although they are two different stones, they work nicely together to complete the overall design and tone of the home. It all came together and made the perfect backyard.

The Quarry Mill's Moss Rock real thin stone veneer complements the rustic natural wood of this beautiful home. Moss Rock is a rocky mountain fieldstone with beautiful earthy brown tones. The fieldstone is hand-picked and sawn to a depth of approximately one-inch thick. The sawing process creates the thin stone veneer. The stone has lichen growing on it which adds unique colors and textures to the natural stone. With its irregular mosaic pattern, Moss Rock is most commonly used on cabins, lodges and country homes. This natural stone veneer is great for rustic inspired projects but the possibilities are endless. The stone appears earthy brown when you see it from a distance, however, upon closer inspection there is great color variation from soft tans to whites and hints of green.

Whenever we design and build a new waterscape or natural landscape retaining wall, moss rock is always part of the design.
“Deck and Patio finds that these sandstone or flagstone rocks used here, with their red and brown undertones, provide a ‘mountain stream-woodsy appeal,’ says Dave.
Moss grows well in shady areas, he adds. And along with ferns, it helps transform any backyard into a natural cool setting. “Of course, also choosing the right size rocks and knowing where to position them is essential for a natural-looking scene.
