The Ridge Residence has been carefully placed on the steeply sloped site to take advantage of the awe-inspiring views. The Glo European Windows A5 Double Pane series was selected for the project to provide cost effective durability and value. Full lite entry doors from the A5 series provide natural daylight and access to the energy efficient home while delivering a much higher performance value than traditional aluminum doors and windows. Large asymmetrical window configurations of fixed and tilt & turn windows provide natural ventilation throughout the home and capture the stunning views across the valley. A variety of exterior siding materials including stucco, dark horizontal wood and vertical ribbed metal are countered with an unembellished Dutch hip roof creating a composition that is both engaging and simplistic. Regardless of season, the Ridge Residence provides comfort, beauty, and breathtaking views of the Montana landscape surrounding it.

Our inspiration for this home was an updated and refined approach to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie-style”; one that responds well to the harsh Central Texas heat. By DESIGN we achieved soft balanced and glare-free daylighting, comfortable temperatures via passive solar control measures, energy efficiency without reliance on maintenance-intensive Green “gizmos” and lower exterior maintenance. The client’s desire for a healthy, comfortable and fun home to raise a young family and to accommodate extended visitor stays, while being environmentally responsible through “high performance” building attributes, was met. Harmonious response to the site’s micro-climate, excellent Indoor Air Quality, enhanced natural ventilation strategies, and an elegant bug-free semi-outdoor “living room” that connects one to the outdoors are a few examples of the architect’s approach to Green by Design that results in a home that exceeds the expectations of its owners. The front façade is composed of two ±symmetrical wings, each containing the ancillary spaces (bedrooms, kitchen, mudroom, indoor pool (!) study and mechanicals) while the main space on axis with the entry is for the family room. The family room has a very high ceiling under the butterfly roof.

The Glo European Windows A5 Series windows and doors were carefully selected for the Whitefish Residence to support the high performance and modern architectural design of the home. Triple pane glass, a larger continuous thermal break, multiple air seals, and high performance spacers all help to eliminate condensation and heat convection while providing durability to last the lifetime of the building. This higher level of efficiency will also help to keep continued utility costs low and maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the year. Large fixed window units mulled together in the field provide sweeping views of the valley and mountains beyond. Full light exterior doors with transom windows above provide natural daylight to penetrate deep into the home. A large lift and slide door opens the living area to the exterior of the home and creates an atmosphere of spaciousness and ethereality. Modern aluminum frames with clean lines paired with stainless steel handles accent the subtle details of the architectural design. Tilt and turn windows throughout the space allow the option of natural ventilation while maintaining clear views of the picturesque landscape.

This screened-in patio project transformed an existing covered outdoor space into a clean, comfortable extension of the home while preserving the open-air feel and backyard views. We constructed the enclosure using durable Owens Corning composite framing, creating a low-maintenance structure designed to withstand the Texas climate without the concerns associated with traditional wood framing. The screening system was completed with SCREENEZE, providing large, uninterrupted screened openings with a clean architectural finish. A double sliding screen door was incorporated into the enclosure for wide, convenient access to the backyard while maintaining a seamless appearance across the exterior. The finished space provides protection from mosquitoes, insects, and debris while allowing plenty of natural light and airflow—giving the homeowners a much more usable outdoor living area throughout the year. Harmoni Designs + Build custom designed and constructed a screened-in outdoor living area that the homeowners can use in spring, summer and fall. A space that would keep insects out and allow for natural ventilation while providing a connection to the outdoors. In addition to the screened-in outdoor living and dining areas, the design includes exterior deck space for enjoying a cup of coffee and area for grilling just outside the kitchen.

Behind this antique mirrored sliding doors is a secret creative workspace that can be opened up for collaboration or closed off when focus time is needed. A practical design to ensure work productivity and connection to the rest of the space.

Working within the existing shell of an old semi-detatched house, the interior layout was reconfigured to create a series spaces that open out to the lush tropical garden. The existing kitchen was converted into an open kitchen, connecting the backyard to the dining and living room. Large sliding windows open the living/dining space to its patio and garden to offer an outdoor dining experience. The existing hallway and common bathroom also suffered from daylight and natural ventilation. A skylight was inserted to brighten the otherwise existing dim hallway. The previously mechanically ventilated bathroom was also converted into a semi-outdoor bathroom with the introduction of an air-well and feature rock wall. The guest bedroom, previously accessible through the kitchen, was turned into a home office now exclusive to the master bedroom. A private courtyard was introduced to connect the master bedroom and home office to create a private sanctuary for one residing in the the bedroom or working in the office.
