Kitchen - large transitional dark wood floor and brown floor kitchen idea in Chicago with a farmhouse sink, recessed-panel cabinets, white cabinets, quartzite countertops, stainless steel appliances, an island and white countertops

For this Arlington Virginia home, the prior kitchen area was in need of a full upgrade. The wood styled cabinetry and flooring were outdated. The homeowners desired a larger dining space within the kitchen and a more open arrangement for the island and cabinetry.
Our team rearranged and redesigned the cabinetry, appliance and island locations along with new features for this spacious kitchen and dining room remodel.
A larger island with microwave replaced the former smaller and outdated island. New appliances are rearranged to open up the kitchen space. Pendant along with recessed lights brighten up new kitchen and dining rooms areas. The bright white of cabinets and the white and grey color scheme for the countertop and backsplash further brighten up the kitchen. Former wood style cabinets are replaced with bright white up to the ceiling cabinets to further obtain a visually higher space, as well as adding extra storage space. Gray flooring compliments the new stainless steel appliances and cabinetry.

3,800sf, 4 bdrm, 3.5 bath with oversized 4 car garage and over 270sf Loggia; climate controlled wine room and bar, Tech Room, landscaping and pool. Solar, high efficiency HVAC and insulation was used which resulted in huge rebates from utility companies, enhancing the ROI. The challenge with this property was the downslope lot, sewer system was lower than main line at the street thus requiring a special pump system. Retaining walls to create a flat usable back yard.

Looking west past the pantry into the hallway and master bath. The hard maple breadboard from CuttingBoards.com, the countertop made from clear fir salvaged from our old kitchen floor. The drawer pulls are 100-year-old painted bin pulls we found on Ebay. The new oak floor matches the living room and dining room, bright white 3"x6" Daltile subway tile backsplash with Mapei "iron" grout, the brass "bow" style pulls from Van Dyke Restorers and the original brass ornamental butt hinges from the kitchen's east wall of cabinets. The cabinets above the fir counter were salvaged from above the fridge on the north wall of the original kitchen and their depth reduced from 20" to 15". The shelf beneath them is an ad lib to break up the space between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets. Barely visible in this photo is a 20 amp combination LED light/power strip that runs the full length of the counter underneath the shelf. The tall cabinets on the far end of the pantry are for storing brooms, etc. The hinges on those cabinets are replica Half Surface hinges from House of Antique Hardware similar to the original cabinet hinges. The adjustable overhead light is a hold-over from when the pantry was used as a breakfast nook, a common feature of bungalows. The "Autumn Leaves" pattern of Pilkington obscure glass for the transom was something we had seen in our hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland and was obtained from GlassGurus.com. The pocket door was salvaged from the pantry and reinstalled to provide privacy for the living areas of the home. The pulls are Eastlake sash pulls we found on Ebay. The 20" deep cabinet above the fridge is new, modeled after existing cabinets. The fridge is a Samsung 18 cubic foot counter depth model with French doors and 6 cubic foot bottom freezer that tripled the capacity of our former apartment-sized fridge. The key to the entire remodel was finding a place to put the fridge. We ended up stealing this spot by sacrificing a hall closet. With the popularity of of stainless steel appliances, it was a challenge to find a white, French door, counter-depth, bottom-freezer refrigerator. We had our eyes on the Big Chill Classic fridge, but budget overruns put it on hold. The brick exterior wall of the pantry and chimney has been revealed for texture and color interest.

Vintage Cellars, Wine cellar design and build firm out of San Diego, California, worked with this celebrity client closely to create a gorgeous wine storage design to add depth and point of interest to this at home bar. This hybrid style wine cellar / wine room / custom wine cellar / custom wine room utilizes multiple styles of wine racks / wine racking to keep a modern and contemporary, yet refined and traditional feel in this home in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.
On the back wall upper section, simple triple deep metal wine racks are used to showcase wine bottles horizontally, so that high providence wine labels can be displayed and celebrated. Clean black metal wine racking looks great against the white walls behind. In the center row of the back wall, a high reveal display is featured, again for more ability and capacity to show off those prized vintages and bottles. This high reveal wine display / angled wine display style section of wood wine racking / wooden wine racking / wood wine racks / wooden wine racks has been carefully thought about by our team to ensure that the angles at which the bottles sit still maintain a wet cork. Below sits room for OWC Original Wood Cases, where the client can store special wine selections often obtained directly from the wineries themselves. Case storage is great for wines which you plan to store for long periods of time, or for those special vintages you might be saving for a special occasion. Diamond Bins finish out this section in the back right corner. Diamond Bin / Diamond Storage / Diamond Wine Storage Bins are interesting design features and utilitarian, leaving you the option to store bottles neck out for easy access.
On the right side of this traditional modern hybrid custom wine cellar / custom wine room / custom wine display, individual bottle storage above, wine glass storage, and a small countertop are the highlights. Cabinetry below finishes the side which butts up to a dividing wall and into the floor to ceiling glass doors in front.
Dark stained Alder wood was chosen as the material for the wine racks / wine racking / wine rack. The custom finishing and staining, completed by Wine Cellar Design and Builders Vintage Cellars, perfectly accentuates the remaining features of the home bar, bar chairs / bar stools, and other wood features throughout the room.
The small / mid-sized custom wine storage space attached to this custom bar makes a great addition to this living room. Hosting get togethers in this space feels so easy.
This fantastic example of a hybrid modern / contemporary and traditional style of custom wine cellar / custom wine room / custom wine wall / custom wine display is extremely popular in this area in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles - as well as in other areas nearby such as Bel Air, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Hollywood Hills, Hancock Park, Thousand Oaks, Tarzana, Pasadena, Calabasas, Pacific Palisades, Venice, and Malibu.
