As the home for the headmaster of an independent high school, it is also considered a school asset as a facility for visitors. Formal details define the public rooms that accommodate school functions. A ground-floor guest suite hosts campus visitors. The catering-quality kitchen, like a hinge, connects the intimate living quarters to formal spaces. The heart of their family sanctuary is the great room just beyond the kitchen. The headmaster holds occasional student classes in his living room, connecting students to this campus legacy. He and his wife can see the front door of the main building from his upstairs window. Boundaries between public and private life are sensitively articulated throughout.

The small guest bedroom had to accommodate the couple's home office, their large collection of books, and the occasional sleepover guest. We designed custom wraparound built-in bookcases as well as a semi-concealed drop-down platform-bed that folds down to fit a full mattress. When not hosting guests, the space is a quiet, comfortable reading nook & home office separate from the rest of the open-plan apartment. The Manhattan skyline, vintage furniture and decor (including the husband's model airplane collection) take center stage.

Patterns and textures from floor to ceiling add beauty and interest to this lovely great room. Sit back and relax on the ivory sectional that sits atop layered area rugs. A large, square, wooden table sits between the sofa and padded ottomans. A dark wood credenza adds functionality and style. Underneath, we layered a soft wool rug with cool tones that complimented both the warm tones of the wood floor and the cool tones of the fabric seating. A beautiful occasional table and a large cocktail table round out the space. We took advantage of this room’s height by placing oversized artwork on the largest wall to create a place for your eyes to rest and to take advantage of the room’s scale. The TV was relocated to its current location over the fireplace, and a new light fixture scaled appropriately to the room’s ceiling height gives the space a more comfortable, approachable feel. Lastly, carefully chosen accessories including books, plants, and bowls complete this family’s new living space. Inspiration for a modern home design remodel in Miami

This combined living and dining room was thoughtfully redesigned to maximize both functionality and comfort within a compact space. The goal was to create a layout that feels open, intentional, and welcoming while supporting everyday living and occasional entertaining. Inspired by a mid-century modern aesthetic, the design incorporates clean lines, warm wood tones, and a balanced palette of navy and soft neutrals. Strategic space planning was key defining separate zones for lounging and dining without overwhelming the room. A carefully curated furniture layout enhances flow, improves usability, and creates a natural gathering point for both relaxation and hosting. The result is a cohesive, modern space that feels elevated yet livable, where every detail contributes to a calm and inviting atmosphere.

This previously unused attic space is now a sauna/yoga room. The left sauna wall follows the attic rafters down diagonally to allow a wider space for leg room on the twin sauna benches.
