This young couple and their gorgeous daughter bought a fabulous home that needed some updating. The existing kitchen had good bones but they wanted additional cabinetry and built-in seating. Plus an update on the existing kitchen. New peaked subway tile backsplash, granite countertop, double sink & faucet were installed in the existing part of the kitchen along with soft close hinges, pull-outs in the pantry and lazy susans in the corners. We added a coffee bar area on the other side of the kitchen with glass front cabinets and glass shelves to show off their contents. We also added a table height granite table attached to another cabinet and wine rack. The result was a lot of new functional storage and a lovely look! Also in need of some change was the bathroom. The overwhelming green tile was dated and dark. We ripped it all out and started from scratch. The bathtub was removed and a large shower installed. The heated floor tile is wonderful and good for our cold winters! A new window, the tiled walls of the shower, granite threshold and shelf cut-out in the shower, gorgeous new shower faucet, floating vanity, comfort height toilet, updated lighting, matching sink faucet and towel bar accessories completed this upgrade! From a dark green cave to an updated, relaxing and luxurious bathroom.

The new kitchen included JSI Essex Castle Grey solid wood cabinets with soft close doors and drawers with Brushed Nickel hardware. We installed a back splash in Silverton Glass in the color Smoke and raven color grout. We also finished the outside edges in Antracite Schluter edging. The countertops in the Kitchen, Bar and Island are Misterio Polished-Pental Quartz. The dining room countertop is Eternal Serena Quartz Silestone. The Kitchen Sink is a Kraus Kore Workstation with a 33" Apron Front 16 Gauge Stainless Sink Single Bowl with a Moen Align pre-rinse spring pulldown kitchen faucet stainless steel. Bar Faucet- Moen Align 1.5 GPM Single Hole Pull Down Bar Faucet with Reflex and Duralast Technology. Bar Sink - Kraus Kore Workstation 17" Undermount 16 Gauge Stainless Steel Single Bowl. Island Sink- Kraus Kore Workstation 23" Undermount 16 Gauge Stainless Steel Single Bowl with a Moen Align Pull-Down Spray faucet. We also added Insinkerator Digital Instant Hot Water Tank and Filtration System. Installed two InSinkErator ESSENTIAL XTR N/A Evolution 3/4 HP Single Phase Garbage Disposals with SoundSeal and MultiGrind Technology. For the Kitchen lighting we installed BELDI 1933-H Peak Ceiling Pendant Fixtures with consisted of four lights over island, one over sink. and in the dining Room we installed 4 ea. Classic Brushed Dark Gray Modern Lantern Drum Mini Coastal Pendant Light LED Compatible. For the flooring in the Kitchen, Dining room, Entrance way and Bathroom we installed Floor Source Savoia; Woodland Series; Black; 6"x39" Glazed porcelain wood look tile with Charcoal gray grout. Included in this project we renovated a Bathroom and laundry station off the kitchen. The Bathroom has JSI Essex Castle Grey solid wood construction with soft close doors and drawers. The countertop is Enchanted Rock Quartz. For the lighting we installed 2 Kovacs Alecia's Tears Single Light 32" Wide Integrated LED Bathroom Vanity Light with Frosted Glass. Vanity sink is Badeloft Undermount ramp sink with a Doux Chrome Two-Handle High Arc Faucet by Moen. We finished the bathroom with 3 frameless Gatco mirrors.

Which isn’t to say this one does not fall into the category of affordable luxury (just something we specialize in here at Almese Doors). It certainly does. It has most of the wonderful features characteristic of the brand to recommend it. It was lovingly and imaginatively designed. The name, should you be wondering, is a variation of that of the lovable, honest and faithful Shakespearean heroine (the play, of course, would be The Twelfth Night, one of the happiest and light-hearted comedies the bright British wordsmith ever composed, and arguably the most popular). Isn’t White the default finish that would look great on any interior door? Well, not quite. W. is the color most often associated with perfection, honesty, cleanliness, newness, neutrality, and exactitude. The pigment has been known and used by humans since prehistoric times. In ancient Egypt, W. symbolized purity. Roman patricians paraded around in W. togas to distinguish themselves from the common folk. It was the color of choice of French monarchs. Architects of all epochs used W., with considerable enthusiasm, in various projects and for various reasons. In addition, we removed walls, combined rooms, and installed floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding doors in sleek black aluminum at each floor to create generous rooms with expansive views. At the basement, we created a full-floor art studio flooded with light and with an en-suite bathroom for the artist-owner. New exterior decks, stairs and glass railings create outdoor living opportunities at three of the four levels. We designed modern open-riser stairs with glass railings to replace the existing cramped interior stairs. The kitchen features a 16 foot long island which also functions as a dining table. We designed a custom wall-to-wall bookcase in the family room as well as three sleek tiled fireplaces with integrated bookcases. The bathrooms are entirely new and feature floating vanities and a modern freestanding tub in the master. Clean detailing and luxurious, contemporary finishes complete the look.

When the homeowners decided to move from San Francisco to the Central Coast, they were looking for a more relaxed lifestyle, a unique place to call their own, and an environment conducive to raising their young children. They found it all in San Luis Obispo. They had owned a house here in SLO for several years that they had used as a rental. As the homeowners own and run a contracting business and relocation was not impossible, they decided to move their business and make this SLO rental into their dream home. As a rental, the house was in a bare-bones condition. The kitchen had old white cabinets, boring white tile counters, and a horrendous vinyl tile floor. Not only was the kitchen out-of-date and old-fashioned, it was also pretty worn out. The tiles were cracking and the grout was stained, the cabinet doors were sagging, and the appliances were conflicting (ie: you could not open the stove and dishwasher at the same time). To top it all off, the kitchen was just too small for the custom home the homeowners wanted to create. Thus enters San Luis Kitchen. At the beginning of their quest to remodel, the homeowners visited San Luis Kitchen’s showroom and fell in love with our Tuscan Grotto display. They sat down with our designers and together we worked out the scope of the project, the budget for cabinetry and how that fit into their overall budget, and then we worked on the new design for the home starting with the kitchen. As the homeowners felt the kitchen was cramped, it was decided to expand by moving the window wall out onto the existing porch. Besides the extra space gained, moving the wall brought the kitchen window out from under the porch roof – increasing the natural light available in the space. (It really helps when the homeowner both understands building and can do his own contracting and construction.) A new arched window and stone clad wall now highlights the end of the kitchen. As we gained wall space, we were able to move the range and add a plaster hood, creating a focal nice focal point for the kitchen. The other long wall now houses a Sub-Zero refrigerator and lots of counter workspace. Then we completed the kitchen by adding a wrap-around wet bar extending into the old dining space. We included a pull-out pantry unit with open shelves above it, wine cubbies, a cabinet for glassware recessed into the wall, under-counter refrigerator drawers, sink base and trash cabinet, along with a decorative bookcase cabinet and bar seating. Lots of function in this corner of the kitchen; a bar for entertaining and a snack station for the kids. After the kitchen design was finalized and ordered, the homeowners turned their attention to the rest of the house. They asked San Luis Kitchen to help with their master suite, a guest bath, their home control center (essentially a deck tucked under the main staircase) and finally their laundry room. Here are the photos: I wish I could show you the rest of the house. The homeowners took a poor rental house and turned it into a showpiece! They added custom concrete floors, unique fiber optic lighting, large picture windows, and much more. There is now an outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven, an outdoor shower and exquisite garden. They added a dedicated dog run to the side yard for their pooches and a rooftop deck at the very peak. Such a fun house. Wood-Mode Fine Custom Cabinetry, Barcelona

This project is a (new) pool within an (existing) pool! The client asked me to remodel their extra large 1970s trapezoid pool that was lacking a spa and seating area. They wanted to make it into a focal feature of their yard allowing them to entertain and capture there scenic view in ways that the previous configuration prevented. On this property, it made sense for the new spa to be on the uphill side adjacent to the master bedroom -- not only for convenience but also for enjoying the views, and allowing us to overflow the spa so that the water could return downhill back to the pool. This is where the cylindrical glass tile “jewel” is situated. The vibrant color of glass was chosen to compliment (be the opposite of, in order to visually resonate and create a higher energy feel) with the ocher seen in the natural stone palette that the house gave us as precedent. Once the spas location was decided, the best views enjoyed by this property are located where the chaise lounges are now in the finished design. The previous pool occupied the space, and this prime area could not be accessed at all! Our second order of business was to carve out a destination space from the previous pool and give it back to be a furniture area for entertaining. Locating the chaise lounger deck across the pool presented a challenge that became a fun opportunity not to be passed up. The overflowing spa water had to return to the pool somehow, and the flowing water had to be crossed over to get to the Chaise lounge viewing deck. The solution? A bridge of course! And with the stairs ascending up to the spa, why not have a stairway like water feature underneath the bridge? The final touch on this design was omitting the weak and poorly executed vanishing edge, which had a horizon line finishing right into the rooftops of the homes below. Not the best aesthetic! To block the roof lines of the homes below and direct your eyes up to the mountain peaks beyond, a stone clad raised planter became the central focal point of the yard, allowing us to create a beautiful agave, yucca, and cacti display to be enjoyed from every angle of the home. Altogether the new configuration really plays off the angular shapes of the home, extends the pallet of materials around the yard, and makes the new space all that more enjoyable for the owners private and public entertainment.

When you enter the lobby the white millwork walls and crystal chandeliers set the tone of elegance and sophistication. Follow the route-iron rails to one of two bridal suites. No detail is too small as a Grooms room equipped with a card table for pre-event preparation. For a breath of fresh air or a sneak-peak of the guests arrival, head to the roof deck just off of the bridal suites. When making your way down to the affair, gather your group and take the elevator down the destination room.

It’s been said that when you dream about a house, the basement represents your subconscious level. Perhaps that was true in the past, when basements were often neglected. But in most of today’s new builds and remodels, lower levels are becoming valuable living spaces. If you’re looking at building or renovating, opening up that lower level with sufficient light can add square footage and value to your home. In addition, having access to bright indoor areas can help combat cabin fever, which peaks in late winter. Looking at the photos here, you’d never know what you’re seeing is a lower level. That’s because a smart builder knew that bringing natural light into the space was key. Our job, in furnishing the space, was to make the most of that light. The off-white walls and light grey carpet provide a good base. A grey sectional sofa with clean, modern lines easily fits into the spacious room. It’s an ideal piece to encourage people to spend time together. The strong, forgiving linen resists staining, and like a blank canvas this true neutral allows for accessorizing with various throws and pillows depending on the season. The cream-colored throw echoes the light colors in the space, while the nubby pillow adds a textured contrast.
