Example of a cottage chic living room design in Toronto

Set amongst a splendid display of forty-one oaks, the design for this family residence demanded an intimate knowledge and respectful acceptance of the trees as the indigenous inhabitants of the space. Crafted from this symbiotic relationship, the architecture found natural placement in the beautiful spaces between the forty-one, acknowledging their presence and pedagogy. Conceived as a series of interconnected pavilions, the home hovers slightly above the native grasslands as it settles down amongst the oaks. Broad overhanging flat plate roofs cantilever out, connecting indoor living space to the nature beyond. Large windows are strategically placed to capture views of particularly well-sculptured trees, and enhance the connection of the grove and the home to the valley surround.

This rustic meets shabby chic dining room was designed for clients in Woodbridge. VA who wanted their home to feel like a bed and breakfast somewhere in Sonoma County. They wanted a soft, rustic feel to their space. We started with the venetian plaster finish in the tray ceiling for texture and warmth. We then gave the walls a soft greenish gold tone. We added the beautiful Aidan Gray chandelier over a large rustic Arhaus dining table and chairs. The parsons style end chairs were a treasure hunt find by the client, as were the chair covers. We added a banding in an olive linen to the bottom to give them a custom feel. The custom buffet is by Guildmaster in their antique white finish. There are so many powerful contributors to this dining room that it's hard to choose a favorite. The live edge acacia wood dining table contrasts perfectly with the custom gray Parsons chairs and wing chair host chairs. A patterned cowhide patchwork rug brings interest to the floor. Brass accents are added with the bar cart in the foreground and the brass table lamp on the rustic metal sideboard. Continuing through the home, a cobalt blue pop in the dining room brings the color scheme to fruition. We love the accent fabric on the chair backs that brings a touch of modern mixed with traditional into the space.
