Inspiration for a craftsman exterior home remodel in DC Metro

Leathered Andino White granite was the perfect choice for this Parade Home design in Knoxville, TN. Kudos to designer Rose Ann Shore for her excellent taste and thank you for allowing us to participate with the granite!

Our client was first introduced to our work when participating in the "Prairie Urban Garden" Tour put on by the Oldman Watershed Council (OWC). Their desire was to have their own "water conscious" landscape created for their new home. The Xeriscpe design was created using plant material that would have interest throughout all 4 seasons and the flagstone material was chosen to reflect the natural style the client desired.

We cannot thank designer Lisa M Cline enough for allowing us to participate in this entire house remodel. Both kitchens and the master bath were provided by Knoxville's Stone Interiors. Basement bath is Giallo Ornamental Granite with a Blanco Silgranit II Cafe Brown sink. Main kitchen is Bianco Antico granite with a Blanco Silgranit II Metallic Gray sink.

The homeowners wanted to preserve the efficiency of their existing galley-style kitchen, but still open up their floor plan and allow the cook to participate fully in the rest of the household's activity. Removing an unnecessary wall between the kitchen and dining area and knocking a pass-through between the kitchen and the living room allowed us to provide a great room while allowing the kitchen to remain compact and efficient. Custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, engineered wood flooring, Mombasa granite counter tops and an attractive copper vent hood updated the space with contemporary conveniences while retaining an aura of traditional hominess. Baylen is 9 years old and was diagnosed at age 6 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in October 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. DMD is a rare disease caused by a genetic mutation that prevents the body from producing a protein called Dystrophin, to which there is currently no cure. In lieu of Dystrophin, his muscles are slowly being encompassed with scar tissue. Without Dystrophin the scar tissue will eventually take over his muscles until they cannot perform adequately for his body. Since his diagnosis, he has taken to lego building and gaming, which are activities he can participate in without causing any damage to his muscles. Unfortunately the game room in his house is located upstairs while his room is located downstairs making it difficult for him to participate in these activities without assistance or pain from walking up the stairs. One of the biggest issues is at night, when his legs are in pain, he ends up in his parents room which prevents anyone from getting a restful night's sleep. A room where he feels comfortable and safe would greatly help both him and his parents. It would also be beneficial for his room to have more space for lego building and play video games without having to walk up the stairs.

Hom, Inc. has the honor of participating in some of the coolest personal residence projects. This project in particular is a perfect fit for us and we are thrilled to be a part of it. Designed by Mark Spangler, Architect, this home is intended to look like an old farm house that was added on to over the years. Construction details, materials and other considerations are all carefully chosen to reflect the era when family farms were a staple and quality was the norm. With a perfect setting near the James River and tucked in behind the Goochland Courthouse on a family farm, this home will be a hidden gem of fantastic architecture and quality construction.

Our client is restoring a 1880's rowhome. She contacted us to see if the original fireplace mantel could be saved. It was in bad condition and like a jigsaw to put back together. We took the time to fit the pieces, prep the wall, epoxy everything together and repair matching all color and natural variations of the stone. He loved that we could participated in preserving the history of this building and in turn becoming part of its history.
