Example of a classic l-shaped medium tone wood floor eat-in kitchen design in Minneapolis with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, blue backsplash, subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

Middlefork was retained to update and revitalize this North Shore home to a family of six.
The primary goal of this project was to update and expand the home's small, eat-in kitchen. The existing space was gutted and a 1,500-square-foot addition was built to house a gourmet kitchen, connected breakfast room, fireside seating, butler's pantry, and a small office.
The family desired nice, timeless spaces that were also durable and family-friendly. As such, great consideration was given to the interior finishes. The 10' kitchen island, for instance, is a solid slab of white velvet quartzite, selected for its ability to withstand mustard, ketchup and finger-paint. There are shorter, walnut extensions off either end of the island that support the children's involvement in meal preparation and crafts. Low-maintenance Atlantic Blue Stone was selected for the perimeter counters.
The scope of this phase grew to include re-trimming the front façade and entry to emphasize the Georgian detailing of the home. In addition, the balance of the first floor was gutted; existing plumbing and electrical systems were updated; all windows were replaced; two powder rooms were updated; a low-voltage distribution system for HDTV and audio was added; and, the interior of the home was re-trimmed. Two new patios were also added, providing outdoor areas for entertaining, dining and cooking.

The organic shape of the surrounding trees contrasts the hard-lined form of the home. To the right, a photo studio is clad in pre-cast concrete. The large front door defines the central entry. To the left, the great room is screened by perforated metal.
Heavy Metal is a contemporary take on the Miesian courtyard house, in a rural setting. In this instance, the courtyard is created as much by the landscaping and vegetation as it is by the architecture.

This addition-renovation project seeks to bring new life to a two story colonial house. The addition involved the demolition of an existing garage and extending the house to create a new two-story entrance and dining area. The scheme is a simple parti with a new steel stair and bridge that connects the existing upper hall to a new master bedroom.

This kitchen remodel involved combing the space of the original kitchen and the dining room. The wall between the two was removed and the new space was formed. The walls and ceilings were stripped down to the framing and the plumbing, electrical and HVAC were modified. New plaster walls and ceilings were installed. The original hardwood floors were weaved together and refinished. The window over the sink was replaced with a new shorter window. The design and selections for this project were provided by a 3rd party designer.
