Find the right local pro for your project

It took our clients several years before they decided to go ahead with the complete renovations of the first floor of house they had been living in for several years. They are a busy professional couple and they needed help with design decisions and choices of all the finishes. We opened up the floor plan and created a more functional space for their young family.
Removing some of the walls and opening the space allowed for a large 10’ island with plenty of storage, seating for the entire family and entertaining. This large kitchen feels light and airy with blue and silver tones in the back splash tile and white cabinets, but the darker wood colored island grounds it and gives it warmth.
We carried the blue and silver color palette into the dining room and installed moldings and millwork to give character to the room.

The client, a sculpture artist, and his wife came to J.P.A. only wanting a studio next to their home. During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture.

Arts and crafts light wood floor dining room photo in DC Metro

Set on 88th Street in Manhattan's Upper East Side, this four-bedroom residence was created by merging two separate condominium units into a single, cohesive luxury home. The result is a sprawling, artful space defined by confidence, color, and a deeply personal design vocabulary.
The project represents a full-service interior design engagement: spatial planning, material selection, furniture sourcing, artwork curation, and complete project coordination. Nearly every element was specified and placed by Mazen Designs, with furnishings sourced largely through Roche Bobois.
The home unfolds from a striking cross-shaped hallway anchored by a custom T-shaped rug that guides movement through the space. To one side, the primary bedroom suite. To the other, a flexible home office that doubles as a guest suite, and a tranquil secondary bedroom. Straight ahead, a streamlined kitchen opens to a formal dining area and beyond that, a dedicated media and Mah Jong room designed for relaxed gathering.
The palette balances jewel tones with crisp whites and greys. Bold in intention but disciplined in execution. A Maya Romanoff wall covering and curated artwork complete the layering of texture, light, and silhouette throughout. The clients arrived hesitant toward color. Through open dialogue and a shared trust in design as storytelling, they left with a home that reflects genuine courage and clarity.

Three year old Avery was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer at age two. Her wish through Make a Wish Foundation was to receive a Fairy Garden Playroom for her sister, Maddy and herself. Avery has gone through so very much in her young life and is such a strong, brave little girl. When Make a Wish coordinator, Jenny Hauser contacted Sherri Blum of Jack and Jill Interiors, Inc. to design this very special room for Avery, we jumped on it. Sherri and her assistant, Lisa O’Brien worked for months meticulously planning the space which included a life-like tree, a custom designed reading nook that we now refer to as the “Fairy Fountain”, a dress up corner, play house, tea table complete with tea set, an art station (not seen in the images, as it was back ordered) and a spot for movie viewing. We solicited the extremely talented Patrice Hoban to paint our fairy mural and she really knocked our socks off with the details! She added glitter and gems and the room really came to life with her vision! We thank Cheryl of Sweet Lullaby for designing and donating the sweet curtains and valances, Chris Jones of Kidtropolisbuild.com for designing the Fairy Fountain reading perch, Levels of Discovery for their donation of the tea table and toybox, New Arrivals, Inc for donating the peg hook, and Creative Carpet Design for donating the monogrammed rug. Avery and her family have a long road ahead of them. They will continue treatments at St. Jude Children’s Hospital (to whom Jack and Jill Interiors has donated monthly for about 10 years) and we will continue to love and pray for this wonderful and inspiring family. Please consider donating as well. Thank you!

The design strategy was for Al Curtis to begin designing a pool that would fit into the grand scope of this expansive back yard – with the homeowners’ voice in the back of his mind saying what would you do if you could do anything in this yard? His only wish list was a lazy river, and hers was a super long waterslide. As long as those two items were incorporated, the rest of the yard was a blank slate. The pool grew to the largest residential pool our team has built to date, incorporating a vinyl liner pool into the footprint, wrapped by a lazy river created with shotcrete flowing through a grotto, and a lower pool with a 25′ waterslide. The pool also features a sunshelf, coated in ecoFinish, a bridge over the grotto entrance, a swim in cave/grotto area. The lazy river is powered by three Endless pool units.
In his unique way, Curtis begins designing and building the pool in his head- estimating he builds it 100 times from the underground up before he ever puts pencil to paper. He draws the pools in the same way he did when he began his career nearly thirty years ago, by hand, with a pencil and triangular architectural scale ruler 1″=10′. Once he has a design he likes, he’ll hand color with watercolor markers. This is the entire plan the customer sees before they make the decision and give the project it’ go ahead.

This kitchen remodel plan was completely a client vision! She had everything drawn out ahead of time and we were able to bring it to life for her.

Picture a home perched on a Colorado mountain, where every window frames a stunning view. West Watch is that vision brought to life – a modern retreat that merges with the Rockies, using natural materials and smart design to create a space that's efficient, inviting, and deeply connected to nature.
Our clients dreamed of a mountain home with easy outdoor flow, from a wide sliding door to a spacious deck and a cozy hot tub. They wanted materials like wood, concrete, and metal that feel authentic and blend in. Sustainability was key too, going beyond basics to make the home energy-smart in the high altitude.
At over 8,000 feet, harsh weather can mean high energy costs and building challenges. We addressed that with a compact shape to cut heat loss and waste, plus south-west facing windows for free solar warmth in winter. Overhangs keep summer heat out, so the home stays comfortable year-round without extra expenses or effort.
The core concept? Harmony with the mountains. The home's orientation captures sun for passive heating, with big windows letting in light and views. A disappearing glass door opens the space wide, while overhangs provide shade. Practical touches like carport storage and a ships ladder to the loft keep everything functional and space-savvy.
We used simple wood framing for strength and affordability, with wood siding and a metal roof built to handle mountain snow and rain. These choices make the home durable and low-maintenance, blending seamlessly into the landscape while keeping costs in check.
Inside, it's all about simplicity and openness, with clean designs that highlight the outdoors. The main level flows to the deck, and the loft adds extra room without complicating things – creating a calm, versatile space for daily life.
West Watch has become a true mountain sanctuary, saving energy and embracing the views in every way. It's a home that feels right at home in Colorado, offering comfort, sustainability, and those unforgettable moments – designed to last and inspire for years ahead.
