This light fixture is a whimsical descending ribbon filled with light. Playful and delicate at the same time, these light pendants are a unique and tasteful lighting solution for the contemporary home.

This tranquil Seattle home sits high on a hill with a lovely view in the Queen Anne neighborhood. The delightful family of four needed help filling the living spaces with furnishings that would be cozy, comfortable and work beautifully with the classic aesthetic of the home. Together we choose swivel chairs to maximize both conversation and the view, a nap worthy sofa in a lovely shade of blue and a cocktail table that is easy to move when the kids need an open space but also serves as an excellent place to play games and build puzzles. A soft and colorful rug, bold patterned drapery and a splash of accessories and accent furnishings were layered in to complete the room. The powder room received a rich new paint color to highlight some beloved family artwork and a decorative ladder was installed to add visual interest and provide a much-needed storage place for hand towels. The entry was lacking storage which we remedied with custom designed and built shoe storage benches. An easy to care for indoor/outdoor rug was added to protect the floor and provide a layer of texture to the room. The new cozy space now serves in function when entering the home plus is a great curl up place to enjoy the view while reading a good book! This living room started out with dusty rose carpeting and walls and a mish mash of cheap furniture. It needed a complete overhaul. The first step was to identify the room's purpose. While technically it is a living room, it is connected via open space to the dining room, kitchen, and family room...thus, it was really more of an extension of the most used, common areas of the home. It was also the first room that visitors see when entering the home, and thus, it needed to be beautiful. While the space is more refined than the other common areas of the home, it is still relaxed enough to be used everyday, and it is. It's TV is used regularly to watch the big sporting events of the week and its also a cozy place with comfortable, oversize chairs and sofas to curl up and read a book or play a card game by the gas fireplace. The Day and The City awaits you, but you cocoon yourself in the envelope you are savoring, You reach for the Times, or the New Yorker, and curl in, with Cole Porter or Leonard Bernstein wafting through the aerie of peace, as you gaze out the window... Central Park fills with Leaves, People, Rain, or even a Gentle Snow. This is Central Park West. This is: An Experience. Not a Residence.

The bedroom was the generous in square footage but also came with angles and doors. Often times, when we have space for a sofa, we want to add a sofa, but it never gets used and becomes a dumping zone. We removed the existing furniture and brought in the classic Papa Bear chair in custom cashmere wool with walnut wood finish. It has become the perfect corner by the window to read, curl up with a coffee and a blanket or just watch the rest of the family snoozing on the bed. I brought in the walnut dresser to warm up the textural and neutral mood board. The art is from one of their travels and the round floral pillow adds a playful softness to the otherwise angular room.

Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary open concept light wood floor and beige floor living room remodel in New York with gray walls and a concealed tv

Dennis and Joe have a large, light-filled house. New construction meant lofted space and open floor plans with traditional styling. Running a busy dental practice by day and engaged in a rich social life by night, this couple needed a professional to take the lead on making their house a home. That’s my cue! They wanted to take risks, and stay away from “matchy-matchy”. We gussied up a plain ol’ TV room and gave it a healthy dose of luxury. Our plan was initially inspired by an abstract painting hanging over their stone fireplace. We brought in their love of the outdoors to make things cozy and used family furniture whenever possible for nostalgia and comfort. I took their love for one-of-a-kind objects and started making a design plan, aiming to solve their biggest frustration: the family room. They had a tortured relationship with a “forgotten family room,” a great space that was spacious and bright, but not at all cozy or joyful, and certainly not “them.” I wanted to create a cozy space functional for everyday curling up with puppies and watching TV after dinner, yet chic enough for hosting the pre-dinner kitchen overflow and cocktails during parties. I went looking for contrasting textures and materials. I wanted to balance patterns and scale, and use non-traditional colors as neutrals to create an overall sense of “BAM!” Dennis and Joe loved the nod to the classics juxtaposed with new and different globally-inspired pieces. For this project our design aesthetic can be described as Middle Eastern/tribal meets mid-century modern. We played to their sensible side with proportion and balance, and stayed as far away from boring/bleh as we could. You could say this room was pretty successful...It was featured in DC Modern Luxury. (#nobigdeal, right?) From there we moved on to other spaces.. We added colorful pillows and sheer drapery to finish off their formal living room. We kept an inherited bedroom set from Dennis’ Mom and added color, draperies, and pillows to overhaul the guest bedroom. Their project was not a rip-and-replace, we weren’t starting from scratch with a blank piece of paper. Rather, our goal was to take what was already there and make it better, more like them. Using functionality first, we focused on giving the house a soothing, joyful aesthetic. We upped the chic factor by a gajillion and helped them find their ‘happy’ at home.
