Imbued with color inspiration from the 1930’s, the massive style capacity of this home is demonstrated over 15 years of artful adaptation in the living and dining rooms. An analogous color scheme with prominent aqua and green tones popular in the 1930’s first graces the living room to creatively infuse a traditional French style. Bergère chairs flank the large focal fireplace with its classical use of stone and versatile dentil trim molding. Coordinating colors in boldly-striped silk shantung bring the acanthus leaf chandelier comfortably into the 20thcentury; only to be jettisoned even further with the room’s next iteration. Still with a nod to the 1930’s color palette, bolder tones of orange and rose with smaller stripes later reinvent the saber legged dining room chairs to skillfully incorporate smoky hues on the walls. Sketchy floral print drapery revises the room by bringing a joyful eclecticism, ever expanding the potential of the space to bring in new influences. A curved back chair reminiscent of the 1930’s set beneath decidedly 20th century artwork; further showcasing the room’s latest use of more streamlined forms. The more transitional upholstered chairs and ottoman craftily unify a more diverse portfolio of furnishings and artwork, as does the continuation of deep tones in thought both spaces.
Invigorated once again with a third look, the living and dining areas are dramatically transformed with a backdrop of soft neutral punctuated by juicy pops of color introduce a new sense of depth and character to the space. Articulated beautifully in the artwork, colors keep the eyes dancing and creativity flowing yet they allow the space to also nurture relaxation and calm. A bold statement on the windows maintains the necessary balance in the dining room for its chandelier; miraculously staying right at home with each redesign. The familiar is successfully re-imagined to prove once again that the perennial beauty of a well-crafted home, furnishings and accessories can be made to embody our unique sense of style at every stage of our lives.

A traditional classic look. The arched camel back sofa and matching leather club chair are found in a formal or even a more relaxed home. This versatile style is as popular today as when it began years ago. The generous turned arms are influenced by the absence of any squareness to this style. Curves all around keep it flowing.

From The Washington Post: "Developer Ahmad Khreshi of Northern Virginia-based Home Perfection Contracting isn’t afraid to take risks when building a house. He embraces the unexpected, challenging his architect, interior designer and builder to experiment with new techniques. This house in McLean, Va., is his most ambitious project to date.
Instead of remodeling an existing house such as the one that was featured as a House of the Week in 2016, Khreshi built an entirely new one.
Khreshi worked with architect Peter VanderPoel and designer Karen Bengel to create a modern house that borrows from Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of incorporating the house in the landscape. The house has three distinct masses — garage, living and bedroom — and three levels, each one set at a different ground level.
The layout of the structure is one aspect of the design. Another is the influence of Mondrian style, named for Piet Mondrian, a modern abstract artist who popularized paintings with colorful arrangements of squares and rectangles.
“We wanted something different,” he said. “That’s what we are on the hunt for. We needed the house to stand out from the rest [of the houses], yet belong to the neighborhood.”
Designed first by hand and then by computer, the asymmetrical window pattern is laid out in the Mondrian style, which is repeated in the asymmetrical design of the Hardie board (fiber-cement siding) on one side of the house. The opposite side and the middle section are a combination of brick and yakisugi carbonized-wood siding. The yakisugi siding is heat-treated in a way similar to an ancient Japanese technique, with the wood burned to give it a carbon layer that protects it from insects and decay."

Triskele Spiral
This door was created to showcase the oversized carved triskele spiral grouping at its center, inspired by The Book of Durrow. The rich mahogany holds these spiraling Celtic designs in a lighthearted yet fashionable form, lending an inviting welcome to mountain guests as they arrive. The homeowners wanted an entrance that was beautiful yet approachable and playful for the eye, as well as an element that ties into the rock adorning their home and the surrounding mountains.
Raleigh is influenced by countless individuals and cultures, but one of his most versed art forms is the Druid art of patterns and knot works. Drawing from ancient books created by the Druids, Raleigh is able to recreate beautiful designs that have deep-seeded meaning to the ancient people of Europe; The Book of Kells and The Book of Durrow are both fantastic examples. The use of triskele spirals within larger designs, as well as singular, was very popular in Celtic culture. A great example of a larger design made up of multiple triskeles can be viewed on page 29. In this design a man with a woven beard crouches in garb decorated with endless knots and key patterns as he collects a spiraling universe made up of triskele spiral groups. The Triskele Spiral door makes use of these beautiful designs, accentuated by the rich woods and fractured moss rock.
The Triskele Spiral door uses the Renfree Carving Studios Earthquake Pattern to tie the entrance way to the rough rock details carried throughout the exterior of the house. This unique pattern also reflects the surrounding mountains with their vast exposed fractured stone.

For this space, the customer forwent an all-white palette which is very popular right now. The choice of blue hues and sleek gloss painted flat panel doors are a nod to the client's desire for a contemporary-styled kitchen that complements the rest of the home's west coast modern influences. Stainless built-in appliances, pendant lights and deep blue, leather bar stools paired with the brown rift-cut horizontal oak kitchen island were used to add to the contemporary design. The range of modular storage space allows easy movement and quick hideaway of small appliances which was a must for the client who loves to bake and entertain. A large drywall-reveal picture window offers an incredible view overlooking the landscape, a feature the customer greatly wanted to capture, and it allows natural light to permeate throughout the space. Additionally, another small window surrounded by the mosaic backsplash creates a beautiful vignette; making this kitchen design truly the heart of the home.
