We combined the tile with feature mosaics and pebbles to add interest and texture. The mosaic has glass pieces which catch the light and reflect it. This large freeform pool in Barrington Hills, IL features a perimeter overflow edge. Measuring approximately 1950 square feet, the pool features custom blended glass tile in the pool, steps, wall, sun shelf and hot tub. The pool floor is an exposed aggregate from Wet Edge featuring pebbles, quartz and glass beads. The hot tub measures approximately 100 square feet, and is completely covered with the glass tile. The sunshelf measures approximately 375 square feet, and is also adorned with the same iridescent and black glass tile mix. The decking and pool coping is cut form Blue Marble. The pool has color changing LED lights as well as three LED lit bubbler water features. The outdoor living space features an outdoor kitchen and bar with two refrigerators, a sink, grill, and serving areas. The custom oversized fireplace possesses an 85" large screen, full-sun HDTV. The renovation taken on by Advance Design Studio's designer Scott Christensen and master carpenter Justin Davis included a custom porch, custom built in cabinetry in the living room and children's bedrooms, 2 children's on-suite baths, a guest powder room, a fabulous new master bath with custom closet and makeup area, a new upstairs laundry room, a workout basement, a mud room, new flooring and custom wainscot stairs with planked walls and ceilings throughout the home. The home's original mechanicals were in dire need of updating, so HVAC, plumbing and electrical were all replaced with newer materials and equipment. A dramatic change to the exterior took place with the addition of a quaint standing seam metal roofed farmhouse porch perfect for sipping lemonade on a lazy hot summer day. In addition to the changes to the home, a guest house on the property underwent a major transformation as well. Newly outfitted with updated gas and electric, a new stacking washer/dryer space was created along with an updated bath complete with a glass enclosed shower, something the bath did not previously have. A beautiful kitchenette with ample cabinetry space, refrigeration and a sink was transformed as well to provide all the comforts of home for guests visiting at the classic cottage retreat. The biggest design challenge was to keep in line with the charm the old home possessed, all the while giving the family all the convenience and efficiency of modern functioning amenities. One of the most interesting uses of material was the porcelain "wood-looking" tile used in all the baths and most of the home's common areas. All the efficiency of porcelain tile, with the nostalgic look and feel of worn and weathered hardwood floors. The home’s casual entry has an 8" rustic antique barn wood look porcelain tile in a rich brown to create a warm and welcoming first impression. Painted distressed cabinetry in muted shades of gray/green was used in the powder room to bring out the rustic feel of the space which was accentuated with wood planked walls and ceilings. Fresh white painted shaker cabinetry was used throughout the rest of the rooms, accentuated by bright chrome fixtures and muted pastel tones to create a calm and relaxing feeling throughout the home. Custom cabinetry was designed and built by Advance Design specifically for a large 70” TV in the living room, for each of the children’s bedroom’s built in storage, custom closets, and book shelves, and for a mudroom fit with custom niches for each family member by name. The ample master bath was fitted with double vanity areas in white. A generous shower with a bench features classic white subway tiles and light blue/green glass accents, as well as a large free standing soaking tub nestled under a window with double sconces to dim while relaxing in a luxurious bath. This 100-year-old farmhouse underwent a complete head-to-toe renovation. Partnering with Home Star BC we painstakingly modernized the crumbling farmhouse while maintaining its original west coast charm. The only new addition to the home was the kitchen eating area, with its swinging dutch door, patterned cement tile and antique brass lighting fixture. The wood-clad walls throughout the home were made using the walls of the dilapidated barn on the property. Incorporating a classic equestrian aesthetic within each room while still keeping the spaces bright and livable was one of the projects many challenges. The Master bath - formerly a storage room - is the most modern of the home's spaces. Herringbone white-washed floors are partnered with elements such as brick, marble, limestone and reclaimed timber to create a truly eclectic, sun-filled oasis. The gilded crystal sputnik inspired fixture above the bath as well as the sky blue cabinet keep the room fresh and full of personality. Overall, the project proves that bolder, more colorful strokes allow a home to possess what so many others lack: a personality!

This 1927 home in historic Dilworth underwent extensive renovations after our client closed on the house in early 2016. For an almost 100 year old house, it has an excellent flow. It boasts a rare open floor plan with connected kitchen, dining room and den without sacrificing an ounce of charm but the wall colors and finishes were a disaster when we took possession. Fresh paint and a brand new kitchen created the perfect backdrop for blending her existing furniture with infusions of newness. The entire den seating area was brand new. Dresner Design possesses the expertise to design cutting edge, cost-effective kitchens, baths and closets for developer’s multi-unit projects. They were recently part of the design team for The Ronsley, River North's best new luxury condominium development. This former industrial timber loft building was transformed into an incredible 41-unit building, and Dresner Design was hired to design both the kitchens and baths using Italian cabinetry from Stosa Cucine. Challenges: All the units were the same but with varying configurations. The goal was to make all the units feel and look the same but each of the layouts was different- making 30 layouts in all. Concept: The kitchens and baths were designed to be sleek and modern, blending in with the loft style. The kitchen islands fabricated with wood compliments the wood ceilings and beams typical of loft living. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a homeowner in possession of a leaking roof must be in want of repairs. And though it makes for a fun Jane Austen allusion, an unreliable roof is a serious problem. Water can cause a great deal of damage in a short time, so this homeowner wisely called us in to help. The roof of this custom-designed home was leaking in myriad locations, so our team removed the existing roof decks to access and repair the exterior trouble spots. The new deck was constructed atop a Bison pedestal system; in fact, we custom-designed the deck in panels that can be lifted for seasonal roof sweeping and simpler maintenance. The various roof decks were rebuilt with both reclaimed decking and new ipe decking. Our team also removed several faulty parapet walls and replaced them with a mixture of stainless steel cables and ipe railings. Finally, we took steps to prevent future drainage problems by applying a sealcoat to the exterior stucco and creating a copper drip-edge too.
