The Italian Fam House was created to look and feel like a vintage structure found in the middle of the Italian country side. the villa was designed with a private bridge over a seasonal creek and automatic gates were designed at the base of a small slope so the visitor could appreciate the architecture as the gates open. A natural stone walk way leads to the front door which has a latch door handle only ( non locking) with 350 year old oak front door. Privacy trees and landscape we’re designed on the perimeter of the property to allow the client to enjoy the grounds in complete privacy and enhancing the illusion of the farm house. The client wanted to keep the vintage look but have some contemporary features in the garden, a artist studio with pool changing room and shower was designed into the hillside to provide a passive solar efficient structure. The patio was designed with rough cut natural stone and accents of Italian marble. the spa was raised 18″ and utilizes a vanishing edge detail which spills into the vanishing edge pool. Both water details are equipped with LED lighting and are integrated into the home automation. A walking path was designed to a lower lawn area adjacent to the creek , the lawn is designed for family picnics , volleyball games and other summer activities nestled under the oaks and cooler temperature by the creek. Screening and privacy were a important element in this design. Mature Box size shrub and mature tree’s were imported from across northern California and craned into the project.

Concrete makes way to a modern ipe deck for outdoor dining at its best. Privacy is maximized for outdoor dining via a horizontal ipe wood fence while still maintaining the ocean view from the new deck and indoor rooms. The ipe extends to a "wine glass" cap rail for the cable rail fencing.

Inspiration for a modern family room remodel in Denver

This lakefront property set in a nice quiet cove on Lake Sam Rayburn. The entire project was planned and built by carter & company for large family events. The 3 1/2 level structure is designed with craftsman influences and functions well as a large fishing lodge designed for year-round entertaining. Ground level includes outdoor kitchen/dining area,separate outdoor living/gaming area with custom cypress beamed furniture built by carter & company. A 1700 Sq deck overlooks beautiful Sam Rayburn and garage doors open across front and rear elevations to create open breeze ways throughout all downstairs areas. Second floor includes living dining and master suite .an enclosed screen porch extends all the way across the lake side with an old wooden cistern structure which houses an outdoor hot tub. The screen porch has it own 5 ton central unit which is only shared with the downstairs shop area.it also has a 50,000 but ventless fireplace on one end which creates a ( winter area ) on the screen porch. The open spaces of living/dining also share aux heating via early 1900's Wood stove (pot belly) which was refurbished and was originally used in a girls dormitory somewhere in Colorado. Kitchen amenities include professional series equipment, a baking center, dumb waiter to downstairs kitchen, pressed tin ceilings. The entire structure touts custom made knotty alder moldings cabinets and doors. The interior walls are also slatted knotty alder with paint stained finishes. The third floor houses 3 guest bedrooms 1 full bath 1 jack and Jill bath, a 10 x 10 sleeping tent with chandelier, queen mattress, and lake view window. Attic does not exist, instead we incorporated open air vaulted ceilings with turnbuckle collar ties and an upper sleeping loft for kids accessed by custom ships ladder. Other areas of interest include front open air materials lift, 100 ft redneck water slide assembled during summertime and rolling boat dock for lake activities.

These homeowners were looking to up their hosting game by modernizing their property to create the ultimate entertainment space. A custom outdoor kitchen was added with a top of the line Delta Heat grill and a special nook for a Big Green Egg. Flagstone was added to create asymmetrical walkways throughout the yard that extended into a ring around the fire pit. Four rectangular trellises were added along the fence and shed, with an all metal pergola located at the back of the pool. This unique structure immediately draws the eye and adds a playful, artistic element to the rest of the space. The use of various sized rocks, gravel, and flagstone give a rough texture that creates a symbiosis with the metalwork. Silver Falls Dichondra creates a beautiful contrast to the rocks and can be found all over the property along with various other grasses, ferns, and agave. A large area of gravel rests on the side of the house, giving the client room to park a recreational vehicle. In front, a privacy fence was added along one of the property lines, leading into a drought resistant, eco-friendly section of yard. This fence, coupled with a giant boulder, doubles as a safety precaution in case drivers miss the turn and run into their lawn. This updated landscaping adds an effortless flow for guests to move from the front yard to the back while creating a very open, welcoming feel to all who enter.

Duplex Y is located in a multi apartment building, typical to the Carmel mountain neighborhoods. The building has several entrances due to the slope it sits on. Duplex Y has its own separate entrance and a beautiful view towards Haifa bay and the Golan Heights that can be seen on a clear weather day. The client - a computer high-tech couple, with their two small daughters asked us for a simple and functional design that could remind them of their frequent visits to central and northern Europe. Their request has been accepted. Our planning approach was simple indeed, maybe even simple in a radical way: We followed the principle of clean and ultra minimal spaces, that serve their direct mission only. Complicated geometry of the rooms has been simplified by implementing built-in wood furniture into numerous niches. The most 'complicated' room (due to its broken geometry, narrow proportions and sloped ceiling) has been turned into a kid's room shaped as a clean 'wood box' for fun, games and 'edutainment'. The storage room has been refurbished to maximize it's purpose by creating enough space to store 90% of the entire family's demand. We've tried to avoid unnecessary decoration. 97% of the design has its functional use in addition to its atmospheric qualities. RESIDENCE FOR Mr PRADEEP JAIN Location: Sector 28, Chandigarh Year of Construction : 2005 So the old sewage connection was retained..........basically to save oneself from harassment from the sharks in the various departments connected with house sanction, and concomitant procedures. The plot was a large one – upwards of around 1500 sq yds. - which could qualify locally as a 3 kanal house. (1 kanal = 1/8 of an acre = 4840/8=605 sq yds.) We’ll not get into the travails of getting the plot transferred to oneself, and the subsequent sanction of the building plans – but it was relatively easy compared to the norm – thanx to a dynamic young AEO in the Estate Office. Since the Owner was based in Ambala, the plans for the house were relatively simple – considering that the construction firm was based out of Meerut........!!! So the program was for the house to be born out of 9 squares of around 16’ side each, (the traditional Vastu Purusha Mandala) with an additional 8’ wide wrap around space where needed – ie the SE, the SW and the NW sides. While the SW side had an insulating wrap of walk-in closets and toilets, the SE and the NW sides had a verandah – with suitable pop-outs of study-rooms, etc. to shade the glazing from the low East and West sun. The central square was designed like an atrium, with an attic above, just under the peak of the pyramidal roof topping the house. To allow for an unique character – this pyramid was clad in terracotta tiles. As the sketch of the plan shows – there is a square each for the entrance lobby, the living room, and the kitchen. The lobby has a powder room attached on the left, behind which is the kitchen. On the right, and opening onto a huge garden at the rear (NW) is the large living room – occupying 1.5 squares of space. And there is a 8’ wide verandah insulating this living room from the rear garden. Although packed with flowers from the Potted Plant Committee........... The central Atrium is the Dining room – with suitable storage all around for crockery and other decorative memorabilia.......and leading onto another family seating (the TV area) between the 3 bedrooms adjoining this atrium. The staircase to the FF is just SW of this lounge, with a hobby room or tool room (the owner is an engineer who loves to tinker) as is the exit to the SW garden. As aforesaid – the SW side of the house is insulated from the afternoon sun with a set of toilets and walk-in closets. On both floors. From the FF one can look down and communicate with the GF easily, leading to a great feeling of space. The FF also has additional rooms used as a gym, and games room, while a large deck is left open as a verandah of the NE side. If a 70’ long x 17’ wide space plus more seems reasonable. - instead of large. Well, there you are – supposed to be impressed with all those large spaces – which is what the house was supposed to do to the visitor in the first place.......!!!!

Looking towards the front door, you are able to see the planning of tile placement in the flow of the travertine's veining.
