Large beach style medium tone wood floor eat-in kitchen photo in Salt Lake City with a farmhouse sink, white cabinets, white backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

Two reclaimed wood box beams run across the white ceiling of this bright transitional family room, their deep dark brown tones and aged patina creating a bold and intentional contrast against the clean white ceiling, light walls, and large windows. The beams bring warmth and antique character to a space that might otherwise feel entirely contemporary, proving that a single design element from Manomin Resawn Timbers can shift the entire feeling of a room. Reclaimed wood paneling on the fireplace wall echoes the tones of the beams above, tying the design together naturally. Every piece is sourced from 19th and early 20th century structures and prepared through our process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner looking to add reclaimed wood box beams to a transitional or contemporary family room, Manomin Resawn Timbers has been helping people discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood since 2002. We ship nationwide and are happy to help you find the right pieces from anywhere in the country. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to get started.

Modern Farmhouse Kitchen: A Stylish Blend of Two Tones
This modern farmhouse kitchen captures the essence of contemporary design while embracing the warmth and charm of traditional farmhouse elements. Featuring a striking two-tone color scheme, the kitchen beautifully pairs black cabinetry on the island and bar with classic white shaker cabinets, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere.
Key Features of This Kitchen Design:
Two-Tone Cabinetry: The contrast between the bold black island and bar cabinetry and the crisp white shaker cabinets adds depth and visual interest to the space. This thoughtful color combination highlights the farmhouse aesthetic while maintaining a modern edge.
Black Island and Bar: The black island serves as a stunning focal point, offering ample space for meal preparation and casual dining. The bar area complements the island and provides an ideal spot for entertaining guests, making it both functional and stylish.
White Shaker Cabinets: The classic white shaker cabinetry provides a clean and timeless look, balancing the boldness of the black accents. These cabinets offer plenty of storage while enhancing the kitchen's bright and airy feel.
Industrial-style light fixtures, vintage-inspired hardware, and textured fabrics can add character and a touch of elegance to the space.
Open Shelving: Incorporating open shelving in the design allows for decorative displays of dishware or curated accessories, adding a personal touch while maintaining the airy feel of the kitchen.
Natural Elements: Incorporate wooden accents, such as a butcher block countertop on the island or wooden bar stools, to add warmth and an organic feel that complements the farmhouse vibe.
Functional Layout: The open layout promotes easy flow between cooking, dining, and entertaining areas, making it a perfect space for both family gatherings and social occasions.
This modern farmhouse kitchen with its two-tone cabinetry—black island and bar paired with white shaker cabinets—exudes a stylish blend of contemporary elegance and rustic charm, creating a welcoming and functional heart of the home. The overall design reflects a harmonious balance between modern sophistication and timeless farmhouse aesthetics.

We loved working with these homeowners who wanted a modern take on a traditional eat-in kitchen. The new kitchen layout relocated the kitchen from the center of the home to the back of the home. This allowed for a large kitchen sink window to capture the views of the wooded back yard. A generously sized island allows the family to gather around while various tasks are simultaneously happening. There is plenty of counter space for preparing food. Baking and meal preparation can easily take place at the same time in this space. Moving the kitchen to the back of the home also allowed room in the center for a dining table adjacent to the gas fireplace where many a cozy meal could be had together.

Different view of this open kitchen with lots of space for creating a gourmet dinner and entertaining friends. Contemporary gray colors with porcelain tile flooring for easy maintenance and a great look. Gorgeous Quartz countertops in Minuet and an eat-in island for easy visiting while preparing the meal complete the look. Perfection!

A single reclaimed wood box beam anchors the ceiling of this transitional home bar, its warm weathered tones adding antique character to a space defined by white subway tile, industrial pendant lights, and a built-in wine display. Below, custom reclaimed wood floating shelves line the wall, their natural grain and aged texture tying the design together and giving the bar a warmth and authenticity that polished modern materials simply cannot deliver. Every piece is sourced from 19th and early 20th century structures and prepared through our process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling, preserving the historic character that makes reclaimed wood one of a kind.

For this young family, their existing space wasn’t working for their lifestyle. Besides the aesthetics, they felt the kitchen wasn’t living up to its full potential. A list of their wants/needs included an open, sleek design that allowed their three children to eat at the island and have a place at a nearby desk to complete homework or watch television while dinner was being prepared.
With the family’s main traffic area leading directly from the garage into the kitchen, it was critical to consider a place for the kids to place their schoolwork, sports equipment, art supplies and even bring in groceries. With all of that in mind, we added lockers for each child right at the garage entry, with the idea that the cabinets could be transitioned into additional pantry storage as the family matures.
With the new open space, we were able to update the room using dark and light grays, on the cabinetry and walls. Combining the elegance of traditional design with the fresh and refined look of contemporary style trends, we mixed natural wood and stone and dark oak flooring with the contemporary look of paneled cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, sleek hardware, and a glass and marble tile backsplash.
By mixing these materials the home’s traditional heritage is kept intact, but the young tech savvy family now has a fantastic space where they can gather for family meals and entertainment.

This transitional primary suite remodel is simply breathtaking. It is all but impossible to choose the best part of this dreamy primary space. Neutral colors in the bedroom create a tranquil escape from the world. One of the main goals of this remodel was to maximize the space of the primary closet. From tiny and cramped to large and spacious, it is now simple, functional, and sophisticated. Every item has a place or drawer to keep a clean and minimal aesthetic.
The primary bathroom builds on the neutral color palette of the bedroom and closet with a soothing ambiance. The JRP team used crisp white, soft cream, and cloudy gray to create a bathroom that is clean and calm. To avoid creating a look that falls flat, these hues were layered throughout the room through the flooring, vanity, shower curtain, and accent pieces.
Stylish details include wood grain porcelain tiles, crystal chandelier lighting, and a freestanding soaking tub. Vadara quartz countertops flow throughout, complimenting the pure white cabinets and illuminating the space. This spacious transitional primary suite offers plenty of functional yet elegant features to help prepare for every occasion. The goal was to ensure that each day begins and ends in a tranquil space.

This beautiful Birmingham, MI home had been renovated prior to our clients purchase, but the style and overall design was not a fit for their family. They really wanted to have a kitchen with a large “eat-in” island where their three growing children could gather, eat meals and enjoy time together. Additionally, they needed storage, lots of storage! We decided to create a completely new space.
The original kitchen was a small “L” shaped workspace with the nook visible from the front entry. It was completely closed off to the large vaulted family room. Our team at MSDB re-designed and gutted the entire space. We removed the wall between the kitchen and family room and eliminated existing closet spaces and then added a small cantilevered addition toward the backyard. With the expanded open space, we were able to flip the kitchen into the old nook area and add an extra-large island. The new kitchen includes oversized built in Subzero refrigeration, a 48” Wolf dual fuel double oven range along with a large apron front sink overlooking the patio and a 2nd prep sink in the island.
Additionally, we used hallway and closet storage to create a gorgeous walk-in pantry with beautiful frosted glass barn doors. As you slide the doors open the lights go on and you enter a completely new space with butcher block countertops for baking preparation and a coffee bar, subway tile backsplash and room for any kind of storage needed. The homeowners love the ability to display some of the wine they’ve purchased during their travels to Italy!
We did not stop with the kitchen; a small bar was added in the new nook area with additional refrigeration. A brand-new mud room was created between the nook and garage with 12” x 24”, easy to clean, porcelain gray tile floor. The finishing touches were the new custom living room fireplace with marble mosaic tile surround and marble hearth and stunning extra wide plank hand scraped oak flooring throughout the entire first floor.

Lots of functional counter space!
It's easy to make a kitchen pretty. It's a lot harder to design a kitchen that actually makes cooking easier. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful kitchen—but more importantly, it is a functional kitchen. The appliance choices and the space-planning were carefully considered to maximize the ease of preparing a meal—whether it's tuna sandwiches for three or tapas for eighteen. Every detail—from sink location to cabinet inserts was analyzed from an ergonomic and cooking-oriented point of view.
