A new archway was added to connect the existing Dining Room to the new Kitchen behind it. A Christopher Boots lamp hangs over the dining table.

Transitional family room photo in Los Angeles

The Dressing Room was opened up to provide more space and light. Custom Walnut wardrobes, dresser, and shoe bench provide clothes storage. The blackened steel fireplace creates a warm focus for lounging.

A faceted blackened steel fireplace mass anchors this room that opens to the patio and garden beyond. Basalt floor tile extends indoors and out. A painted brick wall marks the transition from new to old.

This area was formerly the eating nook. Expanding the kitchen into this space added a ton of storage, functionality and beauty.

The sculptural soft curves of the existing home contrast with the modern additions. All existing woodwork was restored.

The U-shaped element surrounding the sideboard manages any spills, but also provides a backrest for the homeowners to tuck in and read while facing the windows. We added the wall sconces -- switched separately and dimmable -- to make serving and reading easy and enjoyable. Leaded glass window is existing.

We added this archway - matching the other archway you see in the dining room. Left of it is the baking center complete with wooden cabinet that holds our ingredients and conceals the chimney. In the foreground, notice that we installed plug molding along the narrow island.

The new Bedroom and Covered Deck provide expansive views of the backyard. A green roof border extends the room and deck into a dynamic landscape of multicolored succulents.

Lighting was integrated into a new cove moulding to uplight the arched ceiling. A new faceted blackened steel fireplace surround and gas burner open the fire to the room. Existing wood floors throughout the house were stained darker to match the tone of the existing mahogany door and window trim.

We expanded the kitchen into this former eating nook area which made all the difference with storage and functionality. It required changes to window sizes to accomplish this, which meant exterior brick work would be involved, among other things, all of which was expertly crafted by Prestige.
