Rodwin Architecture & Skycastle Homes Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA Interior design, space planning and architectural details converge thoughtfully in this transformative project. A 15-year old, 9,000 sf. home with generic interior finishes and odd layout needed bold, modern, fun and highly functional transformation for a large bustling family. To redefine the soul of this home, texture and light were given primary consideration. Elegant contemporary finishes, a warm color palette and dramatic lighting defined modern style throughout. A cascading chandelier by Stone Lighting in the entry makes a strong entry statement. Walls were removed to allow the kitchen/great/dining room to become a vibrant social center. A minimalist design approach is the perfect backdrop for the diverse art collection. Yet, the home is still highly functional for the entire family. We added windows, fireplaces, water features, and extended the home out to an expansive patio and yard. The cavernous beige basement became an entertaining mecca, with a glowing modern wine-room, full bar, media room, arcade, billiards room and professional gym. Bathrooms were all designed with personality and craftsmanship, featuring unique tiles, floating wood vanities and striking lighting. The conception of the Montrose Garage project, driven by the site and the client’s program, became a lynchpin on the site by reorganizing movement around it. The building, echoing the contemporary materials and aesthetic of the primary residence, is the northern boundary of a courtyard creating the built edge of this urban lot. The garage structure could be characterized as an “Eroded Shed”. With a simple sloped roof, site influences and program requirements strategically carve away at the basic rectangular volume, creating dynamic architecture. The project is located on a tight site on a residential block with an alley at the northern edge of the property. To maximize access and convenience for the client, the project created vehicular access at two points on the site, through the main driveway at the south side and through the alleyway. The “Truck Port” allows vehicular access from both sides of the site. Sliding barn doors open up to the deck/courtyard during parties and social gatherings, and a sitting porch at the exercise studio opens to a beautiful view of the surrounding mountain landscape. A145 features a specific program for a family whose main requirement was the versatility of the social space, having spaces wholly open and integrated and simultaneously being able to divide them for the comfort of each one of its members. The home is located in the Ayamonte Golf Club and its dividing line with the spring forest in Zapopan, with an East-West orientation, on a land of 1000m2. From an aesthetic point of view, the house was designed based on the spring forest’s primary setting. Special care was taken in the landscape design, integrating species of the region organically. Using natural materials in facades and interiors was a deliberate choice, with the intention that the construction, over the years, would become part of the natural setting and transform along with it. The residence is not just a home but a friend to the environment. It is equipped with solar panels for the house’s daily use and the pool’s heating, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, it has a water treatment plant, ensuring responsible water usage and management. The interior design style vividly reflects the residents’ personalities. Most of the pieces made in Mexico were designed and manufactured in a contemporary style.

The design approach carefully balances the home’s classical proportions and ornamental heritage with a refined, modern sensibility—evident in the disciplined palette of warm neutrals, soft plasters, pale oak flooring, and tailored millwork. Circulation has been clarified and subtly expanded to enhance spatial flow, while openings are leveraged to capture light, garden outlooks, and distant water views. Throughout, architectural interventions are executed with a high level of craft, ensuring that new insertions—whether cabinetry, railings, or apertures—read as seamless continuations of the original structure rather than applied elements. The owners of this former cookie-cutter split-level are sitting on top of the world in El Cerrito. Noticing the potential for great views of the Bay, we started their transformation from a 2/1 to a 3/2 with the second-story addition of a primary bedroom suite to frame a stunning panorama. A spacious balcony accessible from the stairway creates an inviting patio for socializing with guests without compromising the privacy of the bedroom. On the first floor, we moved the tiny, awkwardly situated kitchen to the back of the house for an open, welcoming floorplan that extends into the newly leveled yard. Welcome to California living! Adding a Junior ADU allowed us to create that longed-for office/guest space/exercise/laundry room in what was once the garage, whose facade we preserved along with storage space for bikes and equipment. This young family is thrilled with their new space; they decided to choose their own finishes and we helped decide how it would all come together. The home is located in the Ayamonte Golf Club and its dividing line with the spring forest in Zapopan, with an East-West orientation, on a land of 1000m2. From an aesthetic point of view, the house was designed based on the spring forest’s primary setting. Special care was taken in the landscape design, integrating species of the region organically. Using natural materials in facades and interiors was a deliberate choice, with the intention that the construction, over the years, would become part of the natural setting and transform along with it. The residence is not just a home but a friend to the environment. It is equipped with solar panels for the house’s daily use and the pool’s heating, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, it has a water treatment plant, ensuring responsible water usage and management. The interior design style vividly reflects the residents’ personalities. Most of the pieces made in Mexico were designed and manufactured in a contemporary style.

Designed for a young couple with a passion for art, culture, and entertaining, the residence balances expressive design with warmth, comfort, and everyday functionality. The project transforms a developer-finished apartment into a highly personalized home defined by refined materials, integrated lighting, and carefully curated details. Open living spaces were designed to support both intimate moments and larger social gatherings, reflecting the rhythm of contemporary New York living. The private areas were approached individually to reflect the personalities of their owners: a darker and more architectural primary suite for him, and a softer, more organic atmosphere inspired by natural textures and subtle Balinese influences for her. The result is a timeless interior that combines elegance, precision, and a strong sense of place within one of Manhattan's most recognizable residential buildings.
