Located in the heart of Carnegie Hill, this Upper East Side Townhouse was a full gut renovation for DHD Architecture and Interiors. Throughout the home, a combination of vintage furniture and lighting was mixed with new modern classics to give the rooms an elegant and carefully curated feel. Wallpaper, fabrics, and colors play together in layers, so the formal structure and setting of the home is balanced with varying palettes, contemporary prints, and textured materials. Our favorite elements include the office’s statement making malachite wallpaper, and the master bedroom’s vintage sputnik chandelier that hangs over a walnut four poster bed. It’s lucky to have such a great space to work with when creating our coastal vision for the master bedroom. We centered this design around one of our favorite coastal style beds of all time, the solid oak Thomas Bina Otis Poster Bed. To soften the space, we wrapped the room in a textural wallpaper. Once again, we injected color and pattern into the design through the soft materials, like the bedding and the sophisticated koi fish print from Schumacher on our Ella rattan chair from Palecek. The master bedroom was our client’s whimsical getaway and the process from the floor planning and design schematics, to 3D renderings and then the final photography, it was just beautiful.

The Master Suite is spacious yet warm with it's quarter-sawn oak floors, exposed brick from the original building and wood surround that highlights the bed-wall.

We love the way this bed creates an intimate “room within a room” feeling, while also providing all the comfort of an upholstered bed. This used to be a musty utility area. We converted it into a playroom for the kids complete with built-in alcove beds and a full bathroom. The platform bed sits directly on the floor with the platform edge extending slightly beyond the frame. The headboard highlights the dark and light wood grain that is unique to Solid Wood. Across from Hudson River Park, the Classic 7 pre-war apartment had not renovated in over 50 years. The new owners, a young family with two kids, desired to open up the existing closed in spaces while keeping some of the original, classic pre-war details. Dark, dimly-lit corridors and clustered rooms that were a detriment to the brilliant natural light and expansive views the existing apartment inherently possessed, were demolished to create a new open plan for a more functional style of living. Custom charcoal stained white oak herringbone floors were laid throughout the space. The dark blue lacquered kitchen cabinets provide a sharp contrast to the otherwise neutral colored space. A wall unit in the same blue lacquer floats on the wall in the Den.

This sumptuous and comfortable bedroom features a bold headboard panelled in gold faux leather. A crystal chandelier with an ornate ceiling medallion hangs above the bed, layered in linen and faux fur. Two toned bedside tables flank the platform bed with hidden storage below. Additional storage is incorporated into a floating cabinet in gloss black, hiding electronics for the wall mounted TV above. Framed gold prints flank the the headboard for a symmetrical focal point.
