--AFTER-- Blogger, teacher and renovator Kelly-Anne Rush is no stranger to DIY remodels. So when she found out that her cousin had recently purchased a property that was in need of some work, she found a way to help. One of the first things that the home needed redone was the bathroom floor, so Kelly-Anne worked with Allure to find the best solution for her relative’s flooring needs! Before selecting which direction to go for her cousin’s flooring, Kelly-Anne thought about her previous experience with Allure. “​When I renovated my bathroom last year, I wanted a product for the floors that looked like wood but was water resistant and durable. After doing a lot of research, I chose Allure,” she said. “In addition to the durability, the other great part about this type of flooring is that it’s so easy to install!” The property that Kelly-Anne was working on was originally built in the 1900’s, and was in need of some modernization. Kelly-Anne and her cousin had also decided on a coastal theme for the bathroom that incorporated oceanic colors. After browsing Allure’s online catalogue, they found the perfect floor for their bathroom: ​Allure Durban Oak Luxury Plank Flooring​. Kelly-Anne selected the flooring because it matched the color palette of her coastal theme, while also adding a more modern feel to the bathroom. Once they had chosen their floor, the final step was installation. “My cousin’s girlfriend installed the vinyl planking in their bathroom all by herself in a day without any previous renovation experience,” Kelly-Anne said of the installation process. “When I first walked into the space after they were finished renovating, I was so impressed! They did such a great job and certainly had such a feeling of accomplishment from tackling this renovation all by themselves!”

Our client purchased what had been a custom home built in 1973 on a high bank waterfront lot. They did their due diligence with respect to the septic system, well and the existing underground fuel tank but little did they know, they had purchased a house that would fit into the Three Little Pigs Story book. The original idea was to do a thorough cosmetic remodel to bring the home up to date using all high durability/low maintenance materials and provide the homeowners with a flexible floor plan that would allow them to live in the home for as long as they chose to, not how long the home would allow them to stay safely. However, there was one structure element that had to change, the staircase. The staircase blocked the beautiful water/mountain few from the kitchen and part of the dining room. It also bisected the second-floor master suite creating a maze of small dysfunctional rooms with a very narrow (and unsafe) top stair landing. In the process of redesigning the stairs and reviewing replacement options for the 1972 custom milled one inch thick cupped and cracked cedar siding, it was discovered that the house had no seismic support and that the dining/family room/hot tub room and been a poorly constructed addition and required significant structural reinforcement. It should be noted that it is not uncommon for this home to be subjected to 60-100 mile an hour winds and that the geographic area is in a known earthquake zone. Once the structural engineering was complete, the redesign of the home became an open pallet. The homeowners top requests included: no additional square footage, accessibility, high durability/low maintenance materials, high performance mechanicals and appliances, water and energy efficient fixtures and equipment and improved lighting incorporated into: two master suites (one upstairs and one downstairs), a healthy kitchen (appliances that preserve fresh food nutrients and materials that minimize bacterial growth), accessible bathing and toileting, functionally designed closets and storage, a multi-purpose laundry room, an exercise room, a functionally designed home office, a catio (second floor balcony on the front of the home), with an exterior that was not just code compliant but beautiful and easy to maintain. All of this was achieved and more. The finished project speaks for itself.

The laundry room was not functional, with just a small wall for the washer-dryer. We placed wall cabinets above, pulling them forward 6" for ease of access. After living in this home for a decade, Crystal Lake residents Ken & Bonnie needed an update to their tired original kitchen to meet the needs of their busy family. Together with the expertise of designer Scott Christensen at Advance Design Studio they planned to completely reconfigure the entire space. They began by removing the restrictive peninsula and replaced it with a generous island designed to house an expansive farmhouse sink, convenient pull out trash receptacles, and a hidden dishwasher. Now there was ample room to add island seating to accommodate family gatherings, or for just “hanging out” with teenagers. A dramatic new focal point was created with the design of an elegant range area featuring a beautiful custom wood mantle hood detailed with crushed glass handmade tile. Hidden storage houses every spice imaginable right at the cook’s fingertips. Double-stacked glass cabinetry emphasizes the impressive height of the room that was a wonderful architectural element that previously went unnoticed in the original kitchen. The entire kitchen and breakfast nook was opened up to the 2 story family room by integrating enlarged arched openings. An outdated desk area was transformed into a beautiful breakfront bar with beverage refrigeration, glass display cabinets and plenty of new storage for entertainment pieces. An espresso nook was tucked neatly between tall cabinetry, and an old fashioned closet with shelves was converted into an efficient chef’s dream of organized custom pull out pantries. “I am the leader of the Scott Christensen fan club,” says Bonnie. “With my busy family and a full time career, Scott made the process of designing this space so easy for me. Reclaimed Oak Barn Siding Wall Covering Weathered Gray. We acquire all kinds of reclaimed lumber from the heart of the Midwest but my personal favorite is the barn siding because each side of the board is unique. Through our precision milling process we use for flooring, we created this solid 3/8" Tongue and groove plank that is deigned for wall accents. It's available in widths that range from 3" up to 10" wide and random lengths up to 10 feet long. You can choose just one particular width or multiple widths. The Weathered Gray face is what you see on the outside of the barn after years of rain, wind, and snow. The Antique Brown is what was facing the inside of the barn. I found that many customers were using our 3/4" reclaimed flooring for wall accents and came up with this solution to preserve both sides of that beautiful material. It was important to me to create a precision milled product on the sides and the back for good fit and easy installation. The profile of the Tongue side allows the product to be blind nailed just like hardwood flooring. No Adhesives are necessary. We completely preserve the original face and give just a light sanding to clean up any loose pieces. You get all that beautiful original saw mark texture, weathered knots and rusty nail holes. Our reclaimed products are completely denailed and kiln dried to ensure you get a stable product.

Woodland Park a park model manufacturer in Middlebury IN recently launched a new Park Model that utilized Etchwood in various ways throughout the unit. Because Etchwood can be created with any wood, Woodland was able to keep a consistent look using the same timber-cut saw pattern on shelving, doors, cabinets, and even the shiplap wall panels. The Etchwood process creates a rough cut saw pattern that can be finished with a smooth finish and is easy to clean for the end client. This makes Etchwood an ideal addition to projects that can be duplicated in a production setting.

A classic Seattle craftsman home is reimagined and restored. We cherished the opportunity to help a young couple in Seattle develop a materials, fixtures and lighting package for their beloved home remodel. The master bathroom is layered with a mix of white and black marble hex mosaic floor tile, classic white offset brick pattern subway wall tile, and beautifully crafted wood wainscoting. Kohler's Artifacts plumbing trim collection brings fresh vintage style to the vanity and shower. An easy to care for quartz counter and backsplash adds a bright contrast to the a gorgeous providence blue custom vanity. The powder room which doubles as a guest bathroom is dressed in Pratt and Larson's ceramic mosaic floor tile and paired with a space saving pedestal sink by American Standard. Wall niches lined with white quartz are incorporated into both showers creating a dedicated place to store bathing amenities. The checkboard cork floor in the kitchen adds a FUN pop of personality. Custom mudroom cubbies and a built in eating nook were beautifully crafted and finished in a crisp white paint. Light fixtures by Rejuvenation bathe the room in beautiful period appropriate light. Clever storage hides small appliances and a stand mixer. This project was a labor of love for he homeowners who took an active part in the process and a joy for our team to be involved in!
