Our team crafted bespoke furniture pieces, carefully selecting fabrics and finishes to align with the Foundation’s signature color palette, ensuring a cohesive and striking visual identity. Openheimer-Montgomery Building - Historic Renovation and Remodel - Jim Nix - AIA - Austin Architect - Nix Group Architects – Residential and Commercial Architecture Firm - Austin Texas – 78701. The historically landmarked two-story Openheimer-Montgomery Building constructed in 1894 in Austin, was completely renovated by our previous firm Shefelman and Nix Architects in 1981. Under the design effort of Jim Nix, the building was to serve as the firm’s new office upon completion. The first floor’s three bays were completely renovated into a large open lobby and conference room bay and two private office bays with restroom and break area. The second floor’s three bays were renovated into semi-open studio bays with restroom and break area. The firm also initiated and processed the building’s awarded Austin Historic Zoning and National Register Certification. The building’s final restoration and retrofit won both an Austin Chapter AIA “Honor Award” and a Heritage Society of Austin “Historic Preservation” Award. Floor Installation 1.Mark out the baseline of gound level, 2.Mix the mortar with ratio of 1 cement to 4 sand to have semi-day mortar, 3.Lay the mixed mortar in level with a layer of 3-4cm thickness,place the tile over the mortar and adjust the height properly to be leveled, 4.Remove the tile after level adjustment.Put a thin layer of cement powder on the mortar and add water on it to become wet, 5.Put the tile on top and gently knock with rubber hammer until it sealed with the mortar properly. Make sure the tile is leveled and has the same space between each other. Those tiles which are not leveled with others should be removed and repeat the leveling procedure in step 4.Genetally,the space between two tiles should be 2mm for water evaporation and normal expansion. The CSU Foundation Office Remodel at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, revitalizes a dated university space into a dynamic, modern workplace. This interior design project features a flexible, open floor plan to promote collaboration and functionality, incorporating a welcoming reception area, various open work zones, 15 private offices, a small conference room, and a break room, all tailored to the needs of employees and clients. Inspired by the Foundation’s existing office, designed in 2018, the remodel showcases a bold aesthetic with vibrant pops of color integrated through meticulously designed custom furniture. Our team crafted bespoke furniture pieces, carefully selecting fabrics and finishes to align with the Foundation’s signature color palette, ensuring a cohesive and striking visual identity. A creative exposed ceiling, painted dark to enhance the sense of height in the low-ceiling space, is complemented by modern light fixtures, creating an inviting and dynamic atmosphere. In addition to design, our team played a pivotal role in managing the construction process, conducting regular site visits and thorough submittal reviews to ensure seamless execution and adherence to the project vision. The historically landmarked two-story Openheimer-Montgomery Building constructed in 1894 in Austin, was completely renovated by our previous firm Shefelman and Nix Architects in 1981. Under the design effort of Jim Nix, the building was to serve as the firm’s new office upon completion. The first floor’s three bays were completely renovated into a large open lobby and conference room bay and two private office bays with restroom and break area. The second floor’s three bays were renovated into semi-open studio bays with restroom and break area. The firm also initiated and processed the building’s awarded Austin Historic Zoning and National Register Certification. The building’s final restoration and retrofit won both an Austin Chapter AIA “Honor Award” and a Heritage Society of Austin “Historic Preservation” Award. The building’s contemporary office and studio spaces, in its historic and downtown urban setting, has accommodated the firm ever since.

As a part of our process, we helped with sorting and purging of items they did not want in their new home, selling, donating, or recycling the removed items. We then engaged in space planning, product selection and product purchasing. We handled all installation of the products we recommended, and continue to work with this family today to help maintain their space as they go through transitions as a family. We have been honored to work with additional members of their family and now their mountain home in Frisco, Colorado.
