This mantle provides a simple yet classic statement to this comfortable family room. Fireplaces are an area where building science and aesthetics truly co-exist. This existing fireplace has been improved through proper insulation and flashing techniques.

This was a creative collaboration with ROBIN KRAMER GARDEN DESIGN (their design combined with LaurelRock's plant installation and pruning). We used proper pruning techniques to square the hornbeam, green velvet, and 'Dee Runk' boxwood hedges, along with the pleaching of the linden trees.

Since the structure has an English theme, I set the pattern of the wall boards in the same way as a skilled stone mason would build a proper English stacked stone wall.
