One of the biggest differences between formal and functional dining rooms is where the room is located within your home. Formal dining rooms tend to be a completely separate room, often with pocket doors, French doors or ornate double doors, to further sequester them from the rest of the house. Casual dining rooms often share space with the kitchen or living room and are wide open. Even separate casual dining rooms tend to have open doorways, instead of closable doors. The purpose of a formal dining room is for elegant dinners, classy social gatherings and meals almost ceremonial in nature with proper etiquette and fine embellishments. A functional dining room isn't even always used for eating situations. They often serve dual purposes that make them even more utilitarian, such as a homework area for the kids or gaming table for family night.

These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen. We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure. Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests. The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. Large, easily accessible deep drawers provide much needed storage for pots, pans and lids as well as expansive countertop space for everyday prep and family get-togethers. Desert Modern home carefully situated onto the canyon walls amid statuesque Saguaro cacti. Clean angular design of the residence provides contrast to the rugged desert. Roof and overhang design result from proper solar orientation and space for solar panels. Careful excavation exposed the rugged natural environment, SUV-sized boulders, eliminating the need for massive concrete retaining walls and minimize ecological impact. Front Entry brings the desert up close to the window walls and provides a welcoming view inside. Great Room’s angular lines in the walls and ceiling soffits continue the design philosophy. Fireplace location brings back the old tradition of being in the center of the space. Kitchen features a large central island for food prep and informal dining. All cabinets constructed from recycled material and the Island top of man-made quartz. Outdoor Kitchen a few steps away. Dining Room table constructed of reclaimed eucalyptus wood provides a warm visual link to the central fireplace. Master Suite, simply elegant, with floating nightstands and custom headboard framed with 3-D effect porcelain tile. Master Bathroom with amazing views of the mountains and tops of Saguaro cacti provided by floor-to-ceiling windows and those above the shower and mirror walls. Aptly dubbed the "Park Avenue Classic", this u-shaped compact kitchen features our Watermark style custom inset cabinetry, Carrara marble countertops and backsplash, a farmhouse sink, and gorgeous wood floors. In addition to the kitchen space and coordinating rail & stile wainscoting along the hallway, Bakes & Kropp devised a custom plan to outfit the living, dining, and bedroom areas with cleverly designed radiator covers. These concealed storage units beautifully camouflage the homeowner's unsightly HVAC system, but feature removable front panels for easy access and venting for proper air flow.

This gorgeous project was for a client in Ontario, Canada. The enclosed glass truly enhances this custom wine cellar, as you can view the rustic-style tasting area. Vigilant utilized both our kit & custom mahogany wine racking, which includes kit classic radius corners, individual wine racks, diamond bins, quarter round displays and double-deep tables.. The finishing touch is 100-year-old reclaimed white oak flooring. Wow!

This residential wine cellar in California was constructed under our client's house. Here's a nice view of it from outside. This unique space, an underground, under the house custom wine cellar built by Vintage Cellars, truly showcases the ability to transform any unused space in the house into a magnificent wine room, no matter what the size. This wine cellar utilized dark stain on the Walnut racking to further increase the underground cellar feel. Jake at Vintage Cellars along with the owners of the home collaborated to create multiple spaces within the wine cellar itself- an area for bottle storage as well as a separate wine room space for decanting and pouring wine, as well as social get-togethers. Within the social wine room, a credenza style cabinet has been utilized for white wine and champagne storage. A credenza cabinet, or any wine refrigerator or wine cabinet such as this is a perfect option to keep your whites and champagnes at a cooler temperature, ready for serving to guests anytime. This custom wine cellar in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California posed a challenge for our wine cellar builders. Building a custom wine cellar requires a keen eye for detail. The floor and ceiling were not even in this wine room, and so extra effort was required to ensure that the custom wine racks, flooring and the like were properly fitted. As you can see, the wine cellar builders were successful in their endeavor; this large wine cellar turned out fantastic! So much open horizontal storage was used due to cement footings for the house. Every inch of racking was designed at specifics depths to accommodate the different wall depths. These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen. We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure. Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests. The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. Large, easily accessible deep drawers provide much needed storage for pots, pans and lids as well as expansive countertop space for everyday prep and family get-togethers. Overall, the clients were thrilled with their Renovision and cannot wait to throw a party to show off their stunning kitchen. “There is not a single choice we aren’t happy with; it is so us! The house is about 100 years old and was originally on Pawleys Island proper. It was moved to “mainland” Pawleys island about 10 or 15 years ago and was purchased by owners in 2009. It’s a cozy (read small), happy house with lots of character that hugs you when you walk in. There were a couple of changes that absolutely needed to happen to make the house more functional. The first was a laundry room, the second was a place for us to eat as a family and entertain, and the third was a more functional kitchen. Here is the end result.
