We treated the entry as a proper foyer, with its own console and mirror, and grasscloth wallpaper that almost perfectly matches the color and texture of the headboard. Sedona is home to people from around the world because of it's beautiful red rock mountain scenery, high desert climate, good weather and diverse community. Most residents have made a conscience choice to be here. Good buildable land is scarce so may people purchase older homes and update them in style and performance before moving in. The industry often calls these project "whole house remodels". This home was originally built in the 70's and is located in a prestigious neighborhood beautiful views that overlook mountains and City of Sedona. It was in need of a total makeover, inside and out. The exterior of the home was transformed by removing the outdated wood and brick cladding and replacing it stucco and stone. The roof was repaired to extend it life. Windows were replaced with an energy efficient wood clad system. Every room of the home was preplanned and remodeled to make it flow better for a modern lifestyle. A guest suite was added to the back of the existing garage to make a total of three guest suites and a master bedroom suite. The existing enclosed kitchen was opened up to create a true "great room" with access to the deck and the views. The windows and doors to the view were raised up to capture more light and scenery. An outdated brick fireplace was covered with mahogany panels and porcelain tiles to update the style. All floors were replaced with durable ceramic flooring. Outdated plumbing, appliances, lighting fixtures, cabinets and hand rails were replaced. The home was completely refurnished and decorated by the home owner in a style the fits the architectural intent. The scope for a "whole house remodel" is much like the design of a custom home. It takes a full team of professionals to do it properly. The home owners have a second home out of state and split their time away. They were able to assemble a team that included Sustainable Sedona Residentail Design, Biermann Construction as the General Contractor, a landscape designer, and structural engineer to take charge in thier absence. The collaboration worked well!

This unique space, an underground, under the house custom wine cellar built by Vintage Cellars, truly showcases the ability to transform any unused space in the house into a magnificent wine room, no matter what the size. This wine cellar utilized dark stain on the Walnut racking to further increase the underground cellar feel. Jake at Vintage Cellars along with the owners of the home collaborated to create multiple spaces within the wine cellar itself- an area for bottle storage as well as a separate wine room space for decanting and pouring wine, as well as social get-togethers. Within the social wine room, a credenza style cabinet has been utilized for white wine and champagne storage. A credenza cabinet, or any wine refrigerator or wine cabinet such as this is a perfect option to keep your whites and champagnes at a cooler temperature, ready for serving to guests anytime. This custom wine cellar in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California posed a challenge for our wine cellar builders. Building a custom wine cellar requires a keen eye for detail. The floor and ceiling were not even in this wine room, and so extra effort was required to ensure that the custom wine racks, flooring and the like were properly fitted. As you can see, the wine cellar builders were successful in their endeavor; this large wine cellar turned out fantastic! So much open horizontal storage was used due to cement footings for the house. Every inch of racking was designed at specifics depths to accommodate the different wall depths. With a listing price of just under $4 million, this gorgeous row home located near the Convention Center in Washington DC required a very specific look to attract the proper buyer. The home has been completely remodeled in a modern style with bamboo flooring and bamboo kitchen cabinetry so the furnishings and decor needed to be complimentary. Typically, transitional furnishings are used in staging across the board, however, for this property we wanted an urban loft, industrial look with heavy elements of reclaimed wood to create a city, hotel luxe style. As with all DC properties, this one is long and narrow but is completely open concept on each level, so continuity in color and design selections was critical. The row home had several open areas that needed a defined purpose such as a reception area, which includes a full bar service area, pub tables, stools and several comfortable seating areas for additional entertaining. It also boasts an in law suite with kitchen and living quarters as well as 3 outdoor spaces, which are highly sought after in the District.

Award Winning project by Shane Cook Design. This project features a highly customized floor plan, not typical to the building, and interiors on an upper floor of Houston’s dominant upper Kirby high-rise condominium. The challenge of this project was to provide the maximum amount of wall space to feature the client’s world-class contemporary art collection, while at the same time leaving an open, airy, contemporary living space. Lighting design, also by Mr. Cook, was integral to the client’s need to properly light the art, while at the same time allow for flexibility in the rotation of pieces from the collection. The floating ceiling elements in the entry area and living/dining areas help to both define individual spaces and organize the lighting fixtures. The North side of the ceiling element over the living/dining area follows the swooping curve of the building exterior and helps engage the building’s freestanding structural column. A meticulously detailed palate of neutral materials was chosen to create no competition with the featured artworks. While color is incorporated, it is kept to a “tone-on-tone” basis. A step up from the main living area into the kitchen serves to both give the overall space more of an open loft effect and separate this more utilitarian area. The curve of the steps up into the kitchen/tv area gives a sculptural quality to the space and plays off of the curve of the building’s facade. Custom designed items, all by Shane Cook, include the wool and silk entry rug, ceiling elements with integrated lighting (including the electronic files needed for the CNC machine laser cutting of the ceiling’s panels and reveals), dining table, and master bath vanity. Furniture selection was also by Mr. Cook. The patio off of the garage is covered with a slide wire awning that provides shade in the summer and sun in the winter. An outdoor room hosts dining and leisure and extends the living space of the home. The patio is paved with concrete permeable pavers which allows proper drainage on this small lot.

By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, we were able to open the space up and even incorporate a laundry room on the first floor, in what was a sun porch prior to the renovation. The original kitchen was small, with very little storage and even less counter space. The new space has plenty of organized storage, display cabinets, a properly vented hood for the gas range, greatly increased amount of counter space, and even a large island with storage, as well as seating for 4. There is also plenty of room for a dining table to truly make this an eat-in kitchen. The new windows allow for great views from the kitchen, as well as providing plenty of natural light. This all white kitchen as the perfect amount of "pop" with the blue and white glass accent tile, especially the accent under the hood.

These Hanover, MA clients came to Renovisions as they wanted a local design-build company to rework and expand their small and outdated 1980’s colonial kitchen. We collaborated and created an expanded 12’x15’ addition space to accommodate a newly designed kitchen which is now 21’x15’. Before we began with the construction process, proper structural engineering presented a challenge as the property was built on ledge. As expected, we determined that several concrete supports were necessary and needed to be built to support the expanded structure. Our plan included both creative aesthetic and functional layout modifications to transform this ordinary kitchen into a spacious, well-lit, highly functional, stylish and welcoming space to cook, gather and entertain. The bump-out allowed for more functional cabinetry and a dining table which before was placed in a corner of the previous cramped kitchen. Now, there is a wide open space from the adjacent living room and a clear path to a 5’ French door opening to the pool deck. The homeowners also elected for us to extend a new roof over their existing deck creating a nice shaded space to entertain guests. The island, which serves as the central gathering spot. is eye catching with contrasting dark cocoa colored cabinets and stunning natural looking Cambria quartz countertops. Large, easily accessible deep drawers provide much needed storage for pots, pans and lids as well as expansive countertop space for everyday prep and family get-togethers. Overall, the clients were thrilled with their Renovision and cannot wait to throw a party to show off their stunning kitchen. “There is not a single choice we aren’t happy with; it is so us! A 6,000 square foot 2-story new home complex in Milpitas was designed to facilitate the owners’ large business parties and gatherings, to have rooms for the kids to come back to upstairs, and a ground floor master suite with a huge walk-in closet. Several separate structures make up the dwelling: The main house, 3-car garage with carport for overflow parking, and a separate entertainment and recreation building separated by a courtyard from the main house. The business activities include gatherings in the hundreds of people, so parking was maximized and guests can flow in through a separate gate to party in the courtyard and recreation building. Inside this structure is a wet bar, billiard room, workout gym and home theater. The main house ground floor has formal and informal living rooms, open kitchen and master suite with views and expansive windows in every direction. The house is sited on the crestline of a hill with views of the San Francisco Bay and private golf course below. The indoor-outdoor aspect of the house is further accentuated with outside living and dining areas. High ceilings and expansive glass walls dissolve the sense of enclosure taking advantage of the site’s openness and privacy. The owner’s suite is downstairs in anticipation of aging-in-place, and upstairs there are three bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a sitting area lounge and casual TV loft area. The house sits on one acre at the top of a low hill range overlooking Milpitas. The city was very cognizant of the importance of keeping a low profile at this crestline and required extensive story poles and photo evidence of the proper height and siting so as not to be seen from certain selected vantage points. Placement of your TV relative to your furniture, speakers, etc. is crucial to the overall design aesthetic. If your TV will be mounted above a cabinet with nothing on top of it, we typically recommend the bottom of the TV be no less than two inches and no more than six inches from the top of the cabinet. The latter, six inches, should only be with very large TVs and/or very tall ceilings. If there will be a speaker or some sort of decoration on top of the table, we typically error on the side of less space from the top of whatever that is to the bottom of the TV rather than more. This job was particularly interesting because we were dealing with a curved TV mounted above a soundbar with the added design challenge of incorporating the existing chair rail on the wall. In the end, we decided to marry the bottom of the soundbar with the top of the chair rail. From that decision, we could determine the top of the soundbar and place the TV wall bracket in such a way that there would be a 1-2 inch gap between the bottom of the TV and the wall mounted soundbar. Note that your TV mount comes in two parts. One part attaches to the wall, the other part is usually two arms that connect to the TV. The two parts essentially hook together for an easy hanging installation. Its important to measure according to where the hooking will take place (rather than the outside edge of the TV per se) in order to achieve proper spacing.

The primary bedroom, with stunning bones and original bay windows, had a tired, unimpressive fireplace. Its non-working function was upstaged by a tired, green glass mosaic surround. We refreshed it with a beautifully-veined white marble, painted black interior and a collection of candles for a romantic glow. Custom window treatments with Schumacher fabric, a proper window seat and a coordinating upholstered bed add a soothing softness to the space. Tailored touches including a cut-to-fit rug, beach-themed art (a nod to their home on Martha’s Vineyard) and a pair of caned sitting chairs helped to create a stately and luxurious retreat.
