Since we opened our doors in 1930, we have designed and installed over 20,000 kitchens in the DC metropolitan area. Even with this volume of service, we have been able to maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and members in good standing with the National Kitchen & Bath Association. A large part to our success is been due to the quality of the people we work with. Our installers have been certified by us and the manufacturers and exceed the standard requirements in the quality of work, attention to detail, on time completions, and most important, customer satisfaction.
When Bray & Scarff handles your installation we manage the total project. This means we take full responsibility for the entire job. Our installs come with a limited lifetime warranty on all labor, which allows our customer to have continued confidence in our work. This means Bray & Scarff stands behind the work of the installers we work with, Bray & Scarff Certified installers. We will handle all the plumbing and electric. We take care of all permits and inspections, and our call program will keep you informed. Your designer is always just a phone call away if you have questions or concerns. Bray & Scarff is properly insured in all three areas, with 3-way liability insurance for your protection.

From the warmly toned wood of the dining table, through the uniquely designed and handcrafted island to the placement of the traditional Aga range, the room radiates a homely yet professional, comfortable yet practical, welcome.

Plaza 400 is a premiere full-service luxury co-op in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Built in 1968 by architect Philip Birnbaum and Associates, the well-known building has 40 stories and 627 residences. Amenities include a heated outdoor pool, state of the art fitness center, garage, driveway, bike room, laundry room, party room, playroom and rooftop deck.
The extensive 2017 renovation included the main lobby, elevator lift hallway and mailroom. Plaza 400’s gut renovation included new 4’x8′ Calacatta floor slabs, custom paneled feature wall with metal reveals, marble slab front desk and mailroom desk, modern ceiling design, hand blown cut mirror on all columns and custom furniture for the two “Living Room” areas.
The new mailroom was completely gutted as well. A new Calacatta Marble desk welcomes residents to new white lacquered mailboxes, Calacatta Marble filing countertop and a Jonathan Adler chandelier, all which come together to make this space the new jewel box of the Lobby.
The hallway’s gut renovation saw the hall outfitted with new etched bronze mirrored glass panels on the walls, 4’x8′ Calacatta floor slabs and a new vaulted/arched pearlized faux finished ceiling with crystal chandeliers and LED cove lighting.

One of our favorite clients requested our services once again, this time to update their outdated full bath. The main goal, aside from keeping the existing tub and surround in place, was to replace the tired vanity, small medicine cabinet, countertop, sink, flooring, light fixture, shower valve and trims with products that are more on trend. The desire was to create a wow factor and display their personal style.
Designing a bath with transitional finishes and a clean aesthetic was top of mind when we selected a white painted inset-style vanity, contrasting marble-look quartz countertop in suede finish and classic 3” x 6” white subway wall tiles. Tying together different patterns and incorporating 8” x 8” black and white deco floor tiles provides an interesting and refreshing industrial look that is an expression of our client’s individuality and style. Adding to this industrial style feature was the double light fixture with clear seeded glass mounted over the new framed recessed medicine cabinet with matching painted finish. Also, a priority in the remodeling process was to provide proper ventilation to not only keep air moving, but to ensure moisture is cleared from the room while showering.
This newly remodeled updated bathroom is light and airy, and clients are thrilled with the result.
“Hi Cathy, I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our bathrooms and stairs!! Ed, Bradley, and Charlie did their usual fantastic job, not to mention your guidance and expertise. We could not be more thrilled! Each and every time I look at the wall color in the upstairs bath, I comment to myself that Liz really is a ‘wiz’. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

With a listing price of just under $4 million, this gorgeous row home located near the Convention Center in Washington DC required a very specific look to attract the proper buyer.
The home has been completely remodeled in a modern style with bamboo flooring and bamboo kitchen cabinetry so the furnishings and decor needed to be complimentary. Typically, transitional furnishings are used in staging across the board, however, for this property we wanted an urban loft, industrial look with heavy elements of reclaimed wood to create a city, hotel luxe style. As with all DC properties, this one is long and narrow but is completely open concept on each level, so continuity in color and design selections was critical.
The row home had several open areas that needed a defined purpose such as a reception area, which includes a full bar service area, pub tables, stools and several comfortable seating areas for additional entertaining. It also boasts an in law suite with kitchen and living quarters as well as 3 outdoor spaces, which are highly sought after in the District.

Comfortable, beautiful, and functional – this renovation reflects a great collaboration between the owners, interior designer, and our architectural designer. This family wanted to reconfigure their first floor to create a layout that suited their lifestyle. They were working with an interior designer but found they needed a full-service firm that could properly address some structural issues.
Relocating the kitchen along the entire back of the house allowed for an expanded kitchen with a large island that has seating. To open the kitchen to the deck, we removed the standard sliding door and two windows, installed a header to support a larger opening, and introduced new sliding doors that are almost 12-feet wide and 7-feet high.

The owners requested a Private Resort that catered to their love for entertaining friends and family, a place where 2 people would feel just as comfortable as 42. Located on the western edge of a Wisconsin lake, the site provides a range of natural ecosystems from forest to prairie to water, allowing the building to have a more complex relationship with the lake - not merely creating large unencumbered views in that direction. The gently sloping site to the lake is atypical in many ways to most lakeside lots - as its main trajectory is not directly to the lake views - allowing for focus to be pushed in other directions such as a courtyard and into a nearby forest.
The biggest challenge was accommodating the large scale gathering spaces, while not overwhelming the natural setting with a single massive structure. Our solution was found in breaking down the scale of the project into digestible pieces and organizing them in a Camp-like collection of elements:
- Main Lodge: Providing the proper entry to the Camp and a Mess Hall
- Bunk House: A communal sleeping area and social space.
- Party Barn: An entertainment facility that opens directly on to a swimming pool & outdoor room.
- Guest Cottages: A series of smaller guest quarters.
- Private Quarters: The owners private space that directly links to the Main Lodge.
These elements are joined by a series green roof connectors, that merge with the landscape and allow the out buildings to retain their own identity. This Camp feel was further magnified through the materiality - specifically the use of Doug Fir, creating a modern Northwoods setting that is warm and inviting. The use of local limestone and poured concrete walls ground the buildings to the sloping site and serve as a cradle for the wood volumes that rest gently on them. The connections between these materials provided an opportunity to add a delicate reading to the spaces and re-enforce the camp aesthetic.
The oscillation between large communal spaces and private, intimate zones is explored on the interior and in the outdoor rooms. From the large courtyard to the private balcony - accommodating a variety of opportunities to engage the landscape was at the heart of the concept.

Using design expertise, proper engineering and modern building practices, Elite Landscaping transformed an outdated, crumbling concrete pool and landscape into a fresh, award-winning masterpiece. Highlights of this outdoor living space and pool renovation include: Repaving the entire pool deck with travertine. Adding a 13-person year-round spa. Building a pool house with 20’ open cedar-beam ceilings over the men’s and women's changing rooms. Expanding and reinforcing an outdoor deck, finishing the under-deck ceiling and building a full-service, outdoor bar beneath it. Additionally, the Elite team designed a multi-level patio with sunken fire pit, flanked by natural boulders and flagstone paths. The pièce de résistance, however, is the custom-concrete waterfall and grotto, with natural interior skylights and customized water features.

A bid ought to be thorough and encompass the work to be conducted, expense, and time-frame to finish. Make certain clean up is included in the offered cost. If you would like save money, offer to complete the cleanup yourself.
Ask the roofer for how long they've been in business. Roofing contractors with numerous years experience are preferred. Additionally, make certain they have a physical address. Transform Your Home with Expert Wallpaper Installation by Windy City Painters
This dining room in Evanston, Illinois, recently underwent a stunning transformation, thanks to the team at Windy City Painters. As a trusted Chicago painter and wallpaper installer, we specialize in elevating spaces with expert craftsmanship and attention to detail. For this project, we installed bold, eclectic wallpaper on both the walls and ceiling—a design style that’s making a huge comeback in modern home décor.
The ceiling wallpaper, in particular, is the highlight of this room. This intricate pattern required careful planning and precise installation to achieve a seamless look. Ceiling wallpaper installation is one of the most challenging aspects of our work. Gravity, delicate materials, and complex patterns make it a task that only skilled professionals should tackle. Every seam, alignment, and adhesive application must be perfect, as even minor mistakes can be glaringly obvious on a ceiling. This is why hiring an experienced wallpaper installer is essential, especially when working with expensive, custom, or delicate wallpaper.
The process of wallpaper installation begins with careful surface preparation. Walls and ceilings need to be cleaned, repaired, and smoothed to ensure the wallpaper adheres properly. Next comes the meticulous measuring and cutting of wallpaper pieces, taking into account pattern repeats to ensure a flawless design flow. For ceilings, additional steps include precise alignment and support systems to keep the wallpaper in place as the adhesive sets. It’s a time-intensive process, but the results speak for themselves—creating a space that feels polished, cohesive, and unique.
Bold, busy patterns, like the one used in this dining room, are becoming increasingly popular. This eclectic style is perfect for homeowners looking to add personality and drama to their spaces. When paired with complementary furniture and décor, it creates a harmonious yet striking aesthetic. In this case, the rich blue tones, paired with natural wood accents and mid-century modern furniture, make the room feel both elegant and inviting.
At Windy City Painters, we pride ourselves on being a top Chicago painting contractor and wallpaper expert. Whether you’re looking to enhance your walls or tackle the challenge of ceiling wallpaper, our experienced team has you covered.
