The homeowners wanted a comfortable place where friends and family could gather. Michaelson Homes designed this entertainment unit with custom barn doors. The barn doors, painted in Black Fox to match the bar cabinetry, hide video games, movies, blankets, and other family room items. Riverside Custom Cabinetry constructed and installed both the cabinetry and the barn doors. The barn door track, from Rustica Hardware, is flat black and features brass wheels to complement the brass bar hardware. Cork flooring was applied to the wall behind the dartboard as a stylish solution for protecting the drywall.

This room occupies the entire third floor of a Tuscan-style tower and has 360° views. Control of the interior lighting, exterior soffit down-lighting, and landscaping lights allows one to set the ambience for sharing appetizers or viewing the numerous fireworks displays on a July 4th evening. Audio/Video controls allow precise volume and electronic brightness adjustments. Automatic shades protect the furnishings from sun damage and and works with the Smart Thermostat to keep the environment at the right temperature all-year round. Freezing temperature sensors ensure the fireplace automatically ignites just in case the HVAC lost power or broke down. Contact sensors on the awning-style windows work with the home weather station to determine if windows need to be closed when raining; not to mention the primary use with the security system to detect unwanted intruders.

For amazing audio reproduction, we installed Sonus Faber left-center-right speakers, REL sub bass systems, Totem surrounds, and Bel Canto monoblock amplification. To ensure that the sound reaches ears exactly as intended, we specified Cinematech acoustical treatment. This was also the perfect application for Audioquest cabling. Using the skills we learned at Sumiko, we meticulously set the soundstage—a process that took two 3-hour visits to reach perfection. For video, we chose an ultra-high performance 1080p Wolf projector that rivals most 4k projectors on the market, and a Wolf video processor. Special attention was given to the high-voltage system in an effort to reduce the noise floor. We had the Romex electrical lines removed, and replaced with direct-to-panel jacketed electrical lines with 4 x 20 amp circuits, protected with SurgeX, and terminated with Furutech electrical outlets from Japan.
