Sooner or later there will come a time when you have to dispose of your old patio furniture and get a new set. Phil and Rocio, little did you know how perfect your timing was when you came to us and asked for a “small but perfect home”. Fertile ground indeed as we thought about working on something like a precious gem, or what we’re calling a NEW Jewel. So many of our clients now are building smaller homes because they simply don’t need a bigger one. Seems smart for many reasons: less vacuuming, less heating and cooling, less taxes. And for many, less strain on the finances as we get to the point where retirement shines bright and hopeful. For the jewel of a home we wanted to start with 1,000 square feet. Enough room for a pleasant common area, a couple of away rooms for bed and work, a couple of bathrooms and yes to a mudroom and pantry. (For Phil and Rocio’s, we ended up with 1,140 square feet.) The Jewel would not compromise on design intent, envelope or craft intensity. This is the big benefit of the smaller footprint, of course. By using a pure and simple form for the house volume, a true jewel would have enough money in the budget for the highest quality materials, net-zero levels of insulation, triple pane windows, and a high-efficiency heat pump. Additionally, the doors would be handcrafted, the cabinets solid wood, the finishes exquisite, and craftsmanship shudderingly excellent. Photo by Alexandre Kühl Oliveira The rehabilitation project of the apartment is located in Lisbon, at Pascoal de Melo street, part of a mid-twentieth century building, in reasonable condition. The goal was to be able to feel the spaces always differently, in the way of use (cooking, sleeping, relaxing) and their interaction. The entire apartment has been designed taking into account the many sensorial appreciations. A set of points of view and volumes were established from the same space, reinforced by the chosen materials. On the kitchen, the project takes advantage of natural lighting, replacing the existing furniture for higher span, brighter and higher furniture and light-colored finishes that are great reflectors. In addition, the functional kitchen organization was re-designed in order to concentrate tall furniture at the entrance, freeing the area by the window to allow more light involvement. Three separate areas have been established: the cooking set with two countertops drawn from the wall to the floor, the kitchen sink closely resembles the high furniture of the kitchen and the dinning area by the window, which is more sheltered. The space once again aims to different points of view and the concept of voyeur is implicit.

Welcome to our #TerraHouseProject We were so grateful that our client trusted us to reimagine their home. Keep swiping to see the before photos! We began designing this project in 2020, and while the journey took longer than expected for a variety of reasons, we’re thrilled to finally see the project come to life in its full form. The scope involved an addition added onto the FRONT of the home. The addition included an extension of the entryway and dining room, as well as adding a gallery/library and office and office bath. With the addition, we also cosmetically remodeled their kitchen, powder bath, lounge and fireplace. The front elevation completely changed and the home feels like an entirely new home. Our client envisioned a space that felt earthy and organic, reflecting a deep connection to nature. They also wanted to incorporate global elements inspired by their travels, creating a warm, well-traveled aesthetic that tells their story through textures, materials, and curated pieces from around the world.

2011 CAPITAL COTY AWARD GRAND AWARD WINNER Having just purchased this new home, the owners did not like the disconnection between kitchen and breakfast area. The garden window over the sink was in disrepair, the cabinetry was dark and the room’s flow had no rhyme or reason. The kitchen, however, had a lot of potential. A new design was put together which involved reframing the garden window to create panoramic viewing. Two skylights were added which really brightened up the space. All of the previous bulkheads were removed to allow stacked cabinetry and upper display cupboards. A new larger cooking island with angular wings and seating space around it is now the focal point of this kitchen. An additional countertop built on decorative columns offers space for the couple’s children to do their homework or have a snack. Entire kitchen and breakfast area now has a larger porcelain tile floor laid in a pattern to make the place even larger. Honey-colored maple cabinetry with a slightly rubbed chocolate glaze finish gives a classic but sophisticated look to this kitchen. The marriage of faux painting and brick fascia introduced a unique look into the space. The homeowners are so thrilled with the outcome, they are considering remodeling the rest of the home.

THE PICTURE RAILS WERE INCORPORATED TO FEATURE THE MAIN AWARDS AND IMAGES OF THE SHOWS HE HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH H. HE ALSO WANTED A SPACE THAT ALTHOUGH SMALL HE COULD ENTERTAIN THE CAST OF A BROADWAY SHOW . THE LARGE PRINT SLIDES TO THE RIGHT HIDING THE KITCHEN SINK AND DISHWASHER TO REVEAL A FULL BAR FOR ENTERTAINING MODE... THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT IN NYC YOU CAN NOT MOVE THE EXTEND WET LOCATIONS OR RELOCATE THEM FROM THEIR ORIGINAL POSITION THE SINK AND DISHWASHER ARE WERE THE ORIGINAL 6'X4' KITCEN WAS LOCATED . THE KITCHEN WAS EXPANDED BY MOVING THE APPLIANCES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE WATER TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM .
