The Womb Chair & Ottoman originally designed by Eero Saarinen continues to be one of the most recognized representations of mid-century modernism. Additionally, the Saarinen Womb Chair and Ottoman provides unmatched comfort with molded foam over a fiberglass shell. The designer was able to create a piece that provides a relaxed sitting posture. Introduced in 1948, the Womb Chair and Ottoman is one of the most popular designs to come out of the 1940s. Saarinen realized that people sit in many different ways; he designed a chair that is comfortable whether lounging, slouching, or sitting with a leg thrown over the armrest. Paired with the Womb Ottoman, you may find yourself in the lap of luxury. Our high quality reproduction is crafted of a wool mixed fabric in a variety of colors.

WKD’s design specialty in quality historic preservation ensured that the integrity of this home’s interior and exterior architecture was kept intact. The design mission was to preserve, restore and renovate the home in a manner that celebrated its heritage, while recognizing and accommodating today’s lifestyle and technology. Drawing from the home’s original details, WKD re-designed a friendly entry (including the exterior landscape approach) and kitchen area, integrating it into the existing hearth room. We also created a new stair to the second floor, eliminating the small, steep winding stair. New colors, wallpaper, furnishings and lighting make for a family friendly, welcoming home. The project has been published several times. When we met the Bryants we knew that it would be a wonderful opportunity to build something great. Their home that they had just bought from an elderly couple that retired had truly aged with time it had white and blue siding and they were not about that like Anthony Bryant said. Therefore we began designing something unique, the home had a great elevation just needed to be brought into the same century. When we began working on it our design was around warm colors so we decided to stain the bricks red and accent the siding a Almond color with Mastic Insulated siding. we took the board and battens out and installed horizontal straight lap siding with gable accents. The accents where important as we had a accordion wood trim and window trim to match the color and style. We furthered the look by adding cedar shake in both gables and replacing the garage doors with carriage style insulated doors. When everything was done Anthony said he almost drove past the house because he couldn't recognize it. We are proud to present you with the Bryant Residence. Anthony Bryant: "Oh my goodness, I literally drove past the house, it couldn't be our house I said to myself. Its amazing, I didn't expect it to be such a huge difference."

Three generations have shared summers together at this very special place called Merry Hill. Recognizing their shifting needs and looking forward to future generations, the clients wanted to both drastically change their beloved family lake house and yet not change it at all. This new iteration of the cottage is nearly double the size of the original, transforming their summer home into a four-season getaway while evoking the character of the original house in a new and fresh way. The main cottage, boathouse and sleeping cabin all have broad, shallow-pitched roofs with generous overhangs that derive their form from their mid-century predecessor. Expansive openings, wood interiors, operable clerestories, and local stone double-stacked fireplaces are all familiar to the clients but rendered in different scales. Designed for resiliency and sustainability, the new retreat employs an integrated generator, geothermal heating, solar arrays, and battery storage as well as incorporates passive strategies such as sun orientation, earth sheltering, and cross ventilation to keep the interior at an ideal temperature all year round. The resulting form, detailing, and material selections of this new build allows for the seamless continuity of memory-making for a sentimental family.

The pair of sofas facing each other famed the fireplace perfectly and added a comfortable and unusual sitting area. The flower silk upholstery gave the antique sofas the special touch and complimented the gold leaf relief carving in the black lacquer coffee table. The reds in the fabric placed focus on red in the silk taffeta curtains and the main painting decorating the upper part of the fireplace added a feminine but beautiful aspect the living area.
