I have been working as a kitchen and bath designer in the Pacific Northwest for 13 years. I love engaging with new clients, ascertaining their needs through various interviews and meetings and then collaborating as we build their finished concept together. The variety of design styles, room layouts and function changes so much between one person and the next that no two finished products are remotely the same. This fluidity allows for endless possibilities for exploration in my field. It keeps the job interesting and has always given me a particular sense of reward and accomplishment as we near completion. The greatest personal recompense in this chosen profession is being able to walk with a client through this process and come out the other side with that client feeling elated with the end result.

Inspiration for an exterior home remodel in Los Angeles

The main level’s open floor plan was thoughtfully designed to accommodate a variety of activities and serves as the primary gathering and entertainment space. The interior includes a sophisticated and modern custom kitchen featuring a large kitchen island with gorgeous blue and green Quartzite mitered edge countertops and green velvet bar stools, full overlay maple cabinets with modern slab style doors and large modern black pulls, white honed Quartz countertops with a contemporary and playful backsplash in a glossy-matte mix of grey 4”x12” tiles, a concrete farmhouse sink, high-end appliances, and stained concrete floors. Adjacent to the open-concept living space is a dramatic, white-oak, open staircase with modern, oval shaped, black, iron balusters and 7” reclaimed timber wall paneling. Large windows provide an abundance of natural light as you make your way up to the expansive loft area which overlooks the main living space and pool area. To keep things from feeling too “stuffy” we incorporated a variety of contemporary touches throughout the room such as a record player, the woven shade over the light fixture, and a medicine cabinet filled with pieces picked up via travels. We also choose to flank one of the windows with two large, black and white portraits of her boys. NOTE: not all dining rooms have to be designed alike! Since the Hurts usually eat in the kitchen or dining room, we decided to treat the “dining room” as more of a library/bar.

This beautiful master bath makeover started with a new layout that enlarged the shower, reoriented the toilet, replaced the tub and redesigned the vanity with a gorgeous new linen tower feature. The muted color palette blends soft whites with a variety of gray shades. The dark gray tile floor in large 12"x24" herringbone pattern contrasts nicely with the light grey walls and slightly deeper gray linen cabinets. Back in April of 2016, YIMBY reported on new building applications for 846 Monroe Street, in Brooklyn’s Ocean Hill neighborhood. Since then, work has begun on the vacant, 28-foot-wide lot, and now, we have the reveal for the project, which is being designed by Joshua Felix of J Goldman Design/BEAM Group. The architect of record for the site is BMG Design Build, as listed on the Department of Buildings permits, and the project is being developed by Shimon Kaufman. The structure will total four floors and eight units, spanning 7,304 square feet in total. With units averaging under 700 square feet apiece, rentals are very likely. Fortunately, despite the probability of apartments, the design does not compromise on basic architectural decency, and lacks the PTAC units that characterize the exteriors of the vast bulk of new developments of the same typology in New York City. The facade will also be fairly attractive, featuring a mix of grey brick, and black and white paneling. A small area covered in brown gives a pop of muted color that is just enough to add some visual variety to the exterior.
