The client wanted to update their bathroom to have an elevated farmhouse feel, so we designed the vanities with a contemporary apron front countertop and used plumbing fixtures that give a nod to old fashioned water pump handles and lighting that is reminiscent of lanterns. They wanted to reduce the tub footprint, so we included a free-standing tub that is custom painted to coordinate with the shower floor tiles. They wanted to incorporate more functionality including space for laundry, jewelry organization, a coffee bar, ice maker and beverage center as well as a more organized feel overall.

This forever home, perfect for entertaining and designed with a place for everything, is a contemporary residence that exudes warmth, functional style, and lifestyle personalization for a family of five. Our busy lawyer couple, with three close-knit children, had recently purchased a home that was modern on the outside, but dated on the inside. They loved the feel, but knew it needed a major overhaul. Being incredibly busy and having never taken on a renovation of this scale, they knew they needed help to make this space their own. Upon a previous client referral, they called on Pulp to make their dreams a reality. Then ensued a down to the studs renovation, moving walls and some stairs, resulting in dramatic results. Beth and Carolina layered in warmth and style throughout, striking a hard-to-achieve balance of livable and contemporary. The result is a well-lived in and stylish home designed for every member of the family, where memories are made daily.

CHALLENGE:
-Owners want easy to maintain (white) kitchen

-Add natural illumination with 6’ picture window
-Make ceiling one plane
-Add calculated runways of recessed LED lights on dimmers
-Lighting leads to dynamic marble back splash behind range on back wall
-New double islands & ceiling-high cabinetry quadruple previous counter & storage space
-9’ island with seating includes three workstations
-Seating island offers under counter electronics charging ports & three shelves of storage per workstation in cabinets directly in front of stools
-Behind stools, lower cabinetry provides one drawer & two pull-out shelves per workstation
-7’ prep island services 48” paneled refrigerator & 48” gas range & includes 2nd sink, 2nd dishwasher & 2nd trash/recycling station
-Wine/beverage chiller located opposite island sink
-Both sink spigots are touch-less & are fed by whole-house water filtration system
-Independent non-leaching faucet delivers purified, double-pass reverse osmosis drinking water
-Exhaust fan for gas range is hidden inside bridge of upper cabinets
-Flat, easy-to-clean, custom, stainless-steel plate frames exhaust fan
-New built-in window seat in bay window increases seating for informal dining while reducing floor space needed for table and chairs
-New configuration allows unobstructed windows & French doors to flood space with natural light & enhances views
-Open the screened porch doors to circulate fresh air throughout the home

Our client wanted to update many rooms including the kitchen, family room and den. We focused on reducing cost by utilizing the existing cabinets and refacing them with white painted shaker cabinet doors. We also extended the cabinets by filling in the void (aka Dust Trap) between the top cabinets and the ceiling. This lengthens the cabinets and gives them a built in custom cabinet look. The added crown trim, mill work panels and glossy paint looks great and avoids the "what do I put in the void above the cabinet" question. We added glass subway tile for back splash and honed Carrera marble counter tops.

Many ergonomic convenience hardware elements were installed including base pull-out pantries on either side of the cooktop, Tandem pull-out trash/recycling, dish peg board, corner Super Susan, and tray dividers. Lastly, all the fixed shelving in the walk-in pantry were replaced with solid wood adjustable shelves and a beverage fridge was added, mounted on a platform to reduce the need to bend.
