We had a several challenges to face with this project. Not only did we need to update a dated landscape to accommodate two seemingly different design tastes (modern & minimalistic vs natural english garden), we were tasked with improving the property’s drainage, improving the driveway access, reducing water usage and plant maintenance, and fixing a crumbling wall. To marry the two design tastes, we started with the more modern elements of metal planters and softened the landscape with mass plantings of ornamental grasses and native sedge. These grasses act as a turf replacement that do not need to be mowed and require less regular watering. On each side of the yard we constructed new cedar fences to provide updated and additional privacy. In addition, we poured a new concrete wall to replace the existing retaining wall and play off the new modern vibe.

The rear of this Central Street Neighborhood yard floods regularly during heavy rains. Rather than fight mother nature, Prassas Landscape Studio created a rain garden to store excess stormwater until it can percolate into the soil. The rain garden is also fed by the roof’s runoff and basement’s sump pump through a contemporary steel runnel. Stone steppers penetrate a curved wall to lead to the back firepit seating area. This gorgeous, serene nursery for this very much Loved new baby would need to have all the necessary amenities and easily be converted into a regular bedroom. My Client had an image of elephants as the father grew up with bedtime stories of Babar. The challenged was the size of the room only 94 sq. feet. And it would have to be transformed into a regular bedroom once the child was older. I was able to find high quality , beautiful classic furniture that also serves as double duty. Once the child would be old enough the crib can transform into a queen bed, and the removable part of the changing table becomes a 6 drawer dresser. The paintable wall paper color can be changed as well as all accessories. I believe in good quality furniture that can be passed down or converted. Yes it is more expensive but in the long run, classic pieces such as these can last a life time. Created by the concept of elephant accessories and soft pastel colors. With backyard space taken by stairs down from the kitchen, there was only room for a custom 9.5’ x 17’ vinyl pool. It has a Gold Pebble liner and a 5 1/2’ deep end which allows the kids to jump in, splash around and tread water.
