The curves in burled wood and sensuous shape of a Donghia chair create a cozy corner in the living room. The mod black wall covering is a swank extension of the theme that renders the flat screen TV unobtrusive.

This grand estate is detailed with architectural appointments made from our Macedonia Limestone. The elegant "Temple of the Winds" column order is the hallmark of this renovation. The order is also known as Tower of the Winds based upon the ruins in Athens, Greece, near the base of the Acropolis. The ancient site is the design source for thousands of capitals employing this distinctive order.
Similar to the classic order of the Greek Corinthian, the capital features a single row of acanthus leaves surrounding a single row of palm leaves. This style became popular for domestic works in the 19th century. It had the elegance of the Corinthian order but was more restrained and delicate. Many architects preferred the Temple of the Winds order because the Corinthian order requires more carving detail (cost) and lends itself to an architectural building scale of monumental proportions. The scale of this order is easily expanded to produce stately columns as evidenced in this Atlanta Estate.
The Temple of the Winds order can be seen on the porch of the Virginia Governor's Mansion, the North Carolina State Capitol House of Representatives chamber, Sturdivant Hall in Selma, Alabama, and many versions in cities across the United States.

Sometimes great ideas are simple in concept and harder to transform into reality. The construction of this railing began with the scavenging of several riverbanks and lake shores for driftwood of many shapes including several long straight pieces. Then came the selection of the right piece for the right spot. The top of the newel post looks like a beaver just gnawed it. The railing was a real jigsaw puzzle. Joining it all into a sturdy handrail system that the inspector would approve of, was a combination of good carpentry skills, fast setting epoxy, and artistic luck. The resulting handrail wowed the homeowners and their friends. It sets the mood for a Colorado ski lodge getaway every time they descend the stairs.
The wainscoting and doors are made from reclaimed white barn board. For this special job, no wood was joined, every edge was eased to look worn with a wavering block plane. Knots, bullet holes, gouges, old paint, saw marks and every other imperfection were embraced and showcased for the story they represented. Nothing looks new.
The ceiling is treated with tongue and grooved, beveled cedar planks.
There is nothing more incongruous than when a room is rustic but the sheetrock walls are left smooth - especially when the wall are left white. To give the walls an aged look we used a two-tone yellow-gold, coarse Venetian plaster.

For their award-winning terrace design, the landscape architects created a relaxing setting using the same materials they employed on their client’s beachfront hideaway (as part of this Dialogue, attendees visit the terrace where they’ll also get a presentation about the beach property). Contrasts in texture and color are carefully arranged. Cedar, weathered to a buff grey, is used throughout for decking and set off in places with borders of dark round stones. The wood is carefully treated so it’s smooth underfoot. Two bow front metal perimeter planters overflow with grasses, which soften the edges. Strategically placed cedar planters with amelanchier, also known as juneberry, are used as a screening device, to frame dramatic views from the apartment and provide some canopy. A single pine, together with the juneberry, provides sculptural interest. All the plants, which are either native or naturalized, weather the harsh winter winds and temperatures. In this Kohlmark home. We designed and manufactured these small mini flood lights to provide a soft wash on the cedar ceiling and to light the trellises. This was truly a one of a kind fixture for a special application.

Inspired farmhouse kitchen crosses all the T's . The home remodel with recessed-panel white cabinets and a custom blue island accented are the focal point of this kitchen. Center stage are woven pendants that add warmth and interest to the kitchen space. An absolutely livable kitchen for the upscale beach life with doors that open up to bring that indoor outdoor feeling to life! This home is very representative of the fun and casual lifestyle the owners love!
We reconfigured the kitchen and family room by adding a small addition in the family room and stacking doors. In the kitchen we moved the cooktop off of the island and refrigerator to another wall which expand the cooking countertop.

This clean transitional craftsman kitchen features Columbia Cabinetry with Alder stained base and tall cabinets, and French White painted Maple upper cabinetry. The custom drywall hood, finished in French white paint like the upper cabinets, is an elegant focal point to this newly remodeled kitchen. Special features include: curved peninsula, custom built-in breakfast table, and a porcelain tile backsplash with a distressed wood grain texture to complement the new wide-plank hardwood flooring.

We choose to highlight this project because even though it is a more traditional design style its light neutral color palette represents the beach lifestyle of the south bay. Our relationship with this family started when they attended one of our complimentary educational seminars to learn more about the design / build approach to remodeling. They had been working with an architect and were having trouble getting their vision to translate to the plans. They were looking to add on to their south Redondo home in a manner that would allow for seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor space. Design / Build ended up to be the perfect solution to their remodeling need.
Like many in the South Bay, the kitchen is the heart of the home to this family. The homeowners wanted a space that was elegant, warm and clean – an accurate representation of their tastes and style; a place to host Sunday barbecues. The island countertop is natural quartz called Corteccia Leather Slab. A lively cream and blue green quartzite with striking linear striation, Corteccia slabs from Brazil have a special leather finish. Similar to honing, leathering a stone closes the pores, making it much less susceptible to staining and allowing for better performance. The leathered finish presents a unique texture while retaining the stone’s natural color. Since the island was such a rock star we were challenged to find its perfect understated compliment for the perimeter countertops. We selected a polished slab of Madre Perla; a classic natural quartzite. Not only are the colors complimentary but the leather and polished textures play off each other nicely. The rest of the kitchen design fell into place from there.

This California kitchen remodel represents class and elegance. The dark granite countertops and dark wood cabinets really takes ownership of the feel of this chefs kitchen. The large kitchen island makes it easy to entertain, maneuver and enjoy a great family meal. www.remodelworks.com

This is a remodel of an existing kitchen in the heart of Ravenswood. A window was eliminated where the range is now to add more storage and countertop. An awkward back hall transition was reorganized to incorporate additional space to house the small built in appliances and a tall integrated freezer. The goal was to create a space for everything in the kitchen and minimize items sitting out on the countertops. A feature for the Buddha statue was designed in the eating area. Channel handle cabinetry at this location added to zen like design. The Espirit door style is a horizontal textural door painted in a soft white lacquer.

A farmhouse coastal styled home located in the charming neighborhood of Pflugerville. We merged our client's love of the beach with rustic elements which represent their Texas lifestyle. The result is a laid-back interior adorned with distressed woods, light sea blues, and beach-themed decor. We kept the furnishings tailored and contemporary with some heavier case goods- showcasing a touch of traditional. Our design even includes a separate hangout space for the teenagers and a cozy media for everyone to enjoy! The overall design is chic yet welcoming, perfect for this energetic young family.
