Stressless Magic – a spellbinding recliner
Yes, we dare say it: Stressless Magic is the most comfortable chair we have ever made. We have spared nothing in giving it maximum sitting comfort. What makes this recliner so special, is the shape of the seat and back, which literally envelopes you and gives your body support in all the right places. Add to that its comfort zones and a thick pillow made from foam and fibers, and you have a recliner which provides the ultimate in relaxation. Don’t just take our word for it: visit one of our retailers and feel the Magic!

I call this project a "terror" b/c a simple job of installing backsplash tiles was a nauseating rollercoaster ride - even our previous job of a whole house renovation was a prettier ride than this simple 3 day job that turned into a 2 week job!
Lessons learned:
1. Always check the tile's quality by:
Even if it's branded with a big-name brand, make sure you check the country in which it is created.
2. Always anticipate wait-time for "special order" tiles.
3. Always anticipate wait-time for last-minute delivery hiccups by the manufacturer/retail store.
4. Make sure a skilled tile installer install your tiles (communicate that with your prime contractor).

This impressive detached building is located in the heart of the bustling Dundas West strip, and presents a unique opportunity for creative live + work space.
Designed by Kohn Shnier Architects, the building was completed in 2008 and has been owner-occupied ever since. Modern steel and concrete construction enable clear spans throughout, and the virtual elimination of bulkheads. The main floor features a dynamic retail space, that connects to a lower level with high ceilings – perfect as a workshop, atelier or as an extension of the retail.
Upstairs, a spacious loft-like apartment is spread over 2 floors. The mainfloor includes a decadent chef’s kitchen finished in Corian, with a large eat-at island. The combined living & dining rooms connect with a large south-facing terrace with exceptional natural light and neighbourhood views. Upstairs, the master bathroom features abundant built-in closets, together with a generous ensuite bathroom. A second open space is presently used as a studio, but is easily converted to a closed 2nd bedroom.
Parking is provided at the rear of the building, and the rooftop functions as a green roof. The finest materials have been used in this very special building, from anodized aluminium windows paired with black manganese brick, to high quality appliances and dual furnaces to provide adequate heating and fire separation between the retail and residential units. DESIGN CHALLENGES ADDRESSED:
To anyone who may be reading this project overview, I do hope you'll have the opportunity to
have a look at the 'before' photo of this space. It's quite a transformation!
Our homeowners purchased their condo at the beach several years ago. As shown in the 'before'
photo, at the time, their family room was a dark and dated space with unsightly paneled walls,
heavy faux ceiling beams and odds and ends for furniture. Everything felt cramped and cluttered
throughout the condo, especially their family room. The client's vision was for an airy and
relaxed coastal vibe for their 'place at the beach'.
DESIGN SOLUTIONS PROVIDED:
The entire condo was taken down to stud. The faux beams were edited out and the ceiling raised.
The heavy out-dated paneling was removed and replaced with fresh clean walls that were painted
in a calming creamy sand tone throughout the entire condo.
The existing dark and gloomy furniture was replaced with stylish updated pieces. Great thought
was given to the size, scale and textiles used. The sofa and loveseat, done in a softly textured
herring boned pattern, was the perfect choice. It's cremey toned easy care fabric created a 'pet
friendly' environment for the clients. The homeowners have two dogs and a cat who love a visit
to the beach as much as their 'humans'.
Worn out window treatments were replaced with fresh custom draperies in a playful botanical
print featuring tones of kiwi, leaf green and cerulean blue. A special 'solar friendly' lining was
used to tame the harmful rays of direct sun.
A variety of special curated accents were added to the room. The richly textured rug, round
coffee table with an organic feel, comfy pillows and a few special art pieces all helped to
complete this space.
The overall effect of the renovation was quite dramatic and the clients were thrilled with the
results. This family room went from being dark and dated to light and airy and is now a space
that is inviting and relaxing which perfectly suits the homeowner's coastal lifestyle.
