This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved. The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.

Reflecting modern sophistication, this Tribeca apartment dining room, designed by Arsight Studio, boasts a natural aesthetic. Custom shelving and a distinctive dining room crown meld flawlessly with chevron flooring, presenting a pleasing visual balance. The heart of the space is a robust wooden dining table, complemented by well-appointed chairs. A marble trim and custom bookshelf inject a hint of opulence, while the open, airy ambiance breathes life into every meal shared here.

We chose large timber framing for its aesthetic appeal, structural strength, and natural warmth. The use of substantial timber elements not only imparts a sense of timeless beauty but also provides a durable and robust framework for outdoor spaces, making it a popular choice for those seeking both visual elegance and long-lasting structural integrity in their landscapes. The fine details in large timber framing contribute to the overall craftsmanship, creating a distinctive and inviting atmosphere that blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

For clients seeking a dining table that serves as both a robust gathering surface and a sculptural statement, the Walnut White Resin Epoxy Table offers a powerful solution. This piece masterfully balances the substantial warmth of natural wood with the sleek, luminous quality of modern resin. Material Narrative: The live-edge walnut slab provides immediate organic texture, depth, and warmth, with each piece offering unique grain character. Modern Accent: The integrated river of high-gloss white epoxy introduces a striking contemporary element. Its translucent, glossy finish adds a dynamic pop of color and reflects light, creating visual depth. Functional Art: The design transforms a traditional surface into a conversation-starting centerpiece suitable for a range of styles, from rustic-modern to coastal contemporary. Styling Recommendation: Pair with minimalist chairs in neutral tones (white, gray, black, or natural wood) to allow the table's drama to take center stage. Use ambient lighting to accentuate the epoxy's luminous quality.

Considering the flashy nature and the innovative designs that rustic contemporary houses are sporting of late, it really is not easy to fabricate a home that can showcase a mountain rustic look with just the right touch of contemporary. Yet, this bold design, is really something ‘different' and the moment you lay your eyes on it, you cannot but help fall in love with its well-defined plan, sleek look, amazing use of natural stone and integration of BC fir and raw metal into the structure. This house is a direct design response to site, form and utility of building material, which combine to create a solid, robust structure. Disclosure of the stone work, expansive art glass windows and timber frame accents creates a visual impact. The front entry and facade is aligned with the midday sun. The long side of the triple garage act as a retaining wall. Inside this house, rooms slide into each other, dissolving the problem of further enclosure. The plan is unrestricted by the geometry and a sense of infinite space is achieved. Materials are reduced to a palette of metal, concrete, glass and timber, underpinning the desire for a rustic but still contemporary home to be basic and creating an embedded modesty.

The brief from the owners was loud and clear – they wanted an industrial, organic aesthetic with lots of steel and easy-clean, robust surfaces. An entertainer’s kitchen with a good connection to the barbecue deck was high on their list of priorities. They were also keen to display ornaments and plants, so some shelving with LED lighting was desirable. The designer says, although the existing kitchen was a high-end kitchen, it was visually overpowering and it wasn’t practical, with bench space around the cooking centre greatly compromised. “The kitchen was quite congested – it didn’t have a good flow.” However, the biggest challenge was the awkward shape, which was determined by the contemporary architecture. “When I first saw it, I had to leave it for a week as it was quite overwhelming with all the corners and angles. And it’s true, sometimes the best ideas come to you in the middle of the night.” The family had a system in place that worked well, and therefore they had very specific ideas on where they wanted two of the main working centres. “The clean-up centre with a large sink, DishDrawers, bins and a stainless steel bench top was to be located in the scullery, with a smaller secondary sink located out in the main kitchen for preparation.”
