Site grading, compaction and drainage are the key to lasting beautiful yard. Last week this yard experienced a monsoon rain storm that dumped 4" of rain in one hour. The amount of water and run off was intense according to the homeowner. Per his words, "Everything drained beautifully and none the landscape was damaged. Our pavers are installed with the best of the best, in quality and craftsmanship. We install 6" of mag-spec AB substrate, compacted to 95% or greater. Our paver borders are set in 4" of concrete with a #3 rebar imbedded. The trellis is Doug Fir rough sawn beams. Custom granite countertops with a chiseled edge. BBQ, side burner, undermount stainless steel sink. The sink is plumbed for drain only and is primarily used for an ice storage for drinks and wine. We do custom metal doors for all our BBQ islands.

This dining table is sure to make an impression in any home. The table top is a single slab of black walnut. We refined the shape of the table into a rough rectangle but kept a natural looking edge all throughout. The grain has some really unique features where you can see a branch graft that was sawn right through the middle. As you look down from the top toward the base, you quickly notice that this is not an ordinary table. The curved steel, chrome dipped base can't be ignored. The juxtaposition of the dark and wild walnut merging with the highly polished chrome creates a dramatic look that everyone will appreciate.

The intrigue of the home’s powerful facade lies in the locally sourced puddingstone archway inviting you in. The custom designed bronze door with leaded sidelights opens into the foyer from underneath the covered walkway to the right, in essence hidden from the street. The wide-open central expanse allows one a sneak preview of the stone patio and back yard beyond, highlighting the 120-foot-tall Beech tree that has been thriving on the site for over two hundred years. The challenge of designing this 6,300 square foot home and pool house was the narrow but deep one-acre lot. John Meyer’s master planning of a strong front elevation hides the “sideways configuration” of the floorplan. To the left of the archway is a 3-car garage below an entertainment room, with a master bedroom suite on the top floor bridging the main house behind the central eyebrow over the archway. The sense of having been on the site for decades was the intent of the design abundant in the use of stone and masonry. The carved stonework shapes the main and secondary archways as full ovals. Slate detailing is set between the sunburst oval window, balancing interest with the keystones framing the five windows across the bridge. Rough cut boulders give weight to the structure’s base, while straight runs of stone border the shingles under the roof’s eaves and shaped stones guide corner edges downward along the retaining walls. The granite steps and bluestone patio lead one back to the lighted base of the Beech tree, terrace and on-axis pool area beyond. The roof is double thick slate, and the circular drive is crushed stone with granite edging. Like the longevity of the Beech tree, this unique design will stand proudly in its neighborhood for years to come.

The hardscaping around it is Kool Deck® textured concrete. “People used to shy away from busy textures in outside patio kitchen plans, but now they’re embracing them,” notes Franks. “They’re increasingly attracted to the beautiful imperfections and irregularities of nature – there’s more of an authenticity and character to it.” Now, for the high-tech part: A Traeger wood pellet grill. Traeger grills are becoming increasingly popular for their ability to infuse amazing, rich flavor and for their versatility (they can grill, bake, smoke, slow cook, braise and barbecue).
