This post-war, plain bungalow was transformed into a charming cottage with this new exterior detail, which includes a new roof, red shutters, energy-efficient windows, and a beautiful new front porch that matched the roof line. Window boxes with matching corbels were also added to the exterior, along with pleated copper roofing on the large window and side door.

This 1 1/2 story 2500+/- SF Mountian home was designed to maximize expansive views of Lake Pend Oreille and the Cabinet mountains on the Idaho/ Montana border. The East facing windows and rooftop light monitor provide amazing morning light, and carefully proportioned roofs shade south facing windows on sunny summer afternoons. Cedar siding, rusted corrugated steel roofing and wainscot, and timber accents create a beautiful, durable, Northwest rustic aesthetic.

This beverage area has a wet bar within its absolute black polished granite counter, tops white shaker cabinets. The backsplash is tin. The open shelves are made from reclaimed wood and feature subtle and modern lighting. The black iron hardware matches the hardware on the adjacent Dutch door.
After tearing down this home's existing addition, we set out to create a new addition with a modern farmhouse feel that still blended seamlessly with the original house. The addition includes a kitchen great room, laundry room and sitting room. Outside, we perfectly aligned the cupola on top of the roof, with the upper story windows and those with the lower windows, giving the addition a clean and crisp look. Using granite from Chester County, mica schist stone and hardy plank siding on the exterior walls helped the addition to blend in seamlessly with the original house. Inside, we customized each new space by paying close attention to the little details. Reclaimed wood for the mantle and shelving, sleek and subtle lighting under the reclaimed shelves, unique wall and floor tile, recessed outlets in the island, walnut trim on the hood, paneled appliances, and repeating materials in a symmetrical way work together to give the interior a sophisticated yet comfortable feel.

This contemporary modern home is set in the north foothills of Eagle, Idaho. Views of horses and vineyards sweep across the valley from the open living plan and spacious outdoor living areas. Mono pitch & butterfly metal roofs give this home a contemporary feel while setting it unobtrusively into the hillside. Surrounded by natural and fire-wise landscaping, the untreated metal siding, beams, and roof supports will weather into the natural hues of the desert sage and grasses.

The industrious clients came to us with dreams of a new garage structure to provide a home for all of their passions. The design came together around a three car garage with room for a micro-brewery, workshop and bicycle storage – all attached to the house via a new three season porch – and a native prairie landscape and sauna structure on the roof.

The shed roof sheltered entry, timber accents, and large dining room windows provide a welcoming south elevation. Large overhangs with exposed rafter tails and timber knee braces provide a traditional craftsman style aesthetic, which is reinforced by thick butt rustic cedar shingles and shed dormers. The east facing patio will eventually have a timber trellis for shading and a cozy, sheltered feel.

BYTR architects designd the extension of this charming detached house in the old town of Zeist (NL). The characteristic contour of the existing home is used as a reference for the of 19th century house. Two modern gable roofs, together with the historical mansard roof make a surprising composition.
The extension of the house has doubled the living space. Despite the increase in volume, you experience the new building from the street as a little addition. The extension is hidden behind the existing building. Also inside you experience the expressive roof shape which creates a spacious and contemporary atmosphere.
The monolithic extension contrasts in materials and detailing of the existing house. The relief of the old brick walls defines the contrast with the anthracite flat façade panel of the extension.
The interior also shows the contrast between old and new. Through a large sliding façade you step into the modern living kitchen. A tight plastered ceiling and concrete floor stands in contracst to the original wooden beams and an oak parquet. Classic and modern brought together in a charming way.
