The basement Chris and Sofia had envisioned had come to life in a few short months of planning, design and construction, just a perfect fit in the summer months. This architecturally beautiful formal living room with a 25 foot wall of windows created design challenges. First challenge was creating luxurious treatments that had elaborate top treatments as well as long down panels that while being luxurious still allowed a lot of light into the room and didn’t over power the crown molding. Another challenge was there was an arched window on the landing area that had to appear stand-alone yet mimic the bigger design. We did quite a few computer renderings with Minutes Matter. We created a center arched swag and jabot treatment to bring the window group together and also repeated the center treatment on the adjoining arched staircase window on the landing area. We applied silk velvet banding with bouillon fringe overlaid with beaded trim as the top treatments of the windows. The down panels were made from a mirrored crinkle sheer and we repeated the velvet banding with crystal trim all the way down on the leading edge to unify the treatments and give weight and balance to the whole treatment. I had purchased some massive 4’ tiebacks a year earlier and saved them for just the right project. This was the one that needed the size and scale of these perfect giant tassel tie backs. We added the bullion trim with the crystal beaded trim to the tie backs to make them match the treatments. Our workroom created wood based cornices for the treatments to hang from to give stability and also to have a base for the architectural scroll pieces to be applied. We painted them in a soft gold to give a unique dimension to the tops of the treatments.

This stunning glass enclosed modern custom wine cellar was designed and installed by Vintage Cellars. The Contemporary Custom Wine Room was fitted into an existing fireplace space, turning the visually unappealing sore thumb of the room into a magnificent show stopping centerpiece. This modern luxury condo on the 31st floor in a downtown San Diego high-rise acted as a very interesting project for the custom wine cellar design team at Vintage Cellars. The modern wine room space has dual paned, insulated glass but because of the nature of glass itself, the cooling unit was recommended to be oversized. The custom wine room space itself didn't have great options for venting the cooling unit due to the location on the 31st floor. The best option to vent was determined to treat the wine room as a wine cabinet, per se. The Cooling Unit, a CellarPro 1800 XTS, was placed in the ceiling, venting down cool air and circulating vented air back upward. The result works perfectly for a uniquely modern and contemporary space such as this. This fully enclosed, glass front custom wine cellar boasts a 300 bottle capacity with a sleek, modern, label forward feel that ULTRA Wine Peg racking is known for. The center section is a double stacked full reveal display row, showcasing some of the homeowner's finer wines. Though no particular space was made within the wine racking area, the design of this modern custom wine cellar was pushed back a couple of feet so that wine case storage could be an option between the glass front and the custom racking. Additionally, the clean feel goes even further upon looking for the entrance into this wine cellar. The flat panel on the furthest left side opens slowly and almost magically when pushed in slightly. They built a custom mudroom for the kids to house their sports equipment and a handy built in bench area with basket pull outs for a custom home gym. “They were able to custom fit this second mudroom with the lockers and the bench, they were able to custom build that, so the kids could store all of their equipment down here for the sports that they are in,” Chris said. They Got The Amazing Space They Had Envisioned for Years! The basement Chris and Sofia had envisioned had come to life in a few short months of planning, design and construction, just a perfect fit in the summer months. Advance Design Studio was able to design and build a custom, multifunctional space that the whole family can enjoy. “I would recommend Advance Design because of the showroom, because of the cleanliness on the jobsite and the professionalism, combined with Christine’s design side as well as Todd’s builder’s side - it’s nice to have it all together,” reminisced Chris after the project was complete.

The multi-level, deck project has dedicated spaces for separate entertainment uses. The deck cover the entire back of the house facing the lake. It has a large area for seating - outside the master bedroom, family room and dining room - a step down area for outdoor dining, and a private area for those soaks in the hot tub. It has benches that double as seating and barriers from falling off the deck (even though the deck height does not require railing at these points). The Trex deck offers the 2-tone accents that are a standard option on all of our Trex decks. The elevated deck also has a custom built skirting to enclose the bottom of the elevated area, with access doors for storage. This project also includes lighting on the stairs and step downs and down lighting on all of the railing posts for evening ambiance.

Chris and Sofia of Arlington Heights knew when they purchased their home that they would finish the basement. They needed a space for the kids to hang out, for family and friends to stay, and to have a better space for hosting holidays and parties. The dark unfinished space went mostly unused for three years, but once their kids reached the ideal age for use of a well-built basement, they moved ahead with their plan. “The old basement was dark and cold, and the kids came down and played, but they didn’t like it. The new space is like a whole other house, so we have this space for family game nights and for watching games or Super Bowl parties,” Chris said. A Custom Space for a Family with Multiple Needs The project began with a fireplace focal point complete with an amazing entertainment wall, a fantastic full kitchen complete with every amenity, and a brand new full bath. The new basement truly has a space for everyone. If the kids want to watch a movie and hang out on the couch they can, if family wants to play games and have a pizza party on the large island they can, and if guests want to stay over night on the pull-out sofa they can enjoy the entire private “suite” complete with a full bath. It is the true definition of a multifunctional basement. The stunning, full kitchen is the highlight of this now bright and airy basement. You walk down the stairs and are immediately impressed with the detailed metal tile work on the ceiling, bringing to mind the classic feel of a comfortable old pub. Cherry Merlot cabinets provide a rich contrast against the soft neutral walls and the contrasting copper tin ceiling tile and backsplash. Rich Santa Cecelia granite countertops pair nicely with timeless stonework on the outer walls. The island is large enough to provide a more than adequate entertaining space, and provides plenty of both seating and storage. The well-appointed kitchen houses a regular size refrigerator, a full size oven for pizza parties and cookie baking anytime, a microwave oven as well as complete sink and trash set up. One could easily do without a home kitchen forever in this generously designed secondary space! The fireplace and buffet wall seating area is the ideal place to watch movies or sporting events. The coordinating stonework on the fireplace flows throughout the basement, and a burnt orange accent wall brings color and warmth to otherwise ordinary basement space. The Elite Merlot media buffet compliments the kitchen as well as provides storage and a unique functional display option, giving this part of the basement a sophisticated, yet functional feel. The full bath is complete with a unique furniture style cherry DuraSupreme vanity and matching custom designed mirror. The weathered look to the cabinets and mirror give the bathroom some earthy texture as does the stone floor in the walk-in shower. Working within height restrictions intended to keep massing as low to the ground as possible, we moved the ground plane up and the expression down to present an appearance of a home that lives low. Calculated plays on scale and proportion intentionally have different effects from different vantage points, ensuring the viewer perceives the architecture as humanly scaled from each important introduction to the home. They-used-this-part-for-entertaining-lit-with-plenty-of-recess-lights,-a-large-scale-bar-covered-in-granite-top,-just-big-enough-to-serve-good-size-parties. A-lead-walk-covered-with-matching-stones-guiding-down-guests-from-front-yard-into-this-heavenly-backyard, The second floor was home to large scale 21'x56' of porcelain covered deck with to lead stairs cases. The wrought Iron bronze french belly railing system enhanced with LED column lights made this deck space suited for day and night entertainment. Just few steps away is a 18'x18' covered porch furnish with its own linear gas fireplace, large scale TV, infrared heaters overlooking lower circular patio and fireplace. Roofed in with Dark bronze metal roof made this outdoor living space a picture-perfect portrait.

This backyard and landscaping was designed by Giuseppe Abbrancati and is located in Plainview, Nassau County NY. The challenge was to deal with a very small backyard having a deep slope in a newly constructed residential site. The backyard was built in two levels, with a stoop and platform built by the sliding doors leading down to the patio area. The gunite swimming pool is built on one side and with a large patio on the opposite side, for the main dining table and bbq grill area. A set of wide stairs lead further down to the natural gas fire pit and a grass play area. A sheer descent water feature was built with 3 waterfalls and lighting accents were installed on steps and throughout the backyard. All patios and walls were paved and veneered with Moca travertine selected from the Gappsi showroom. The gunite swimming pool built by Gappsi has many options and was built with the highest quality materials and equipment. Starting with 10 inch thick gunite walls and ½ inch rebar 12 on center, 2 inch PVC plumbing for high volume water flow. The overall size of the swimming pool is 20x40. In the shallow area, a sundeck and the spa were built side by side with steps leading down in to the pool shallow area and a bench in front of the spa. LED lights were also installed, along with an automation system that allows the customer to control the lights, the water feature bubbler, spa jets, and the gas heater, with his or her smartphone. The gunite swimming pool also has a salt-chlorine generator system, an ozone system, a pressure driven Aqua clean robot pool cleaner, variable speed pumps, and an oversize cartridge filter. The finish of the pool shell consists of Pennsylvania bluestone coping for the pool and spa, and a Diamond Brite midnight blue color for the inside pool shell plaster finish. The most important feature suggested and loved by the homeowner that was installed, is the safety automated pool cover. Being in a such tight backyard, it would have been impossible to fence the pool area to keep the their children safe, without distorting the backyard layout.

This stunning glass enclosed modern custom wine cellar was designed and installed by Vintage Cellars. The Contemporary Custom Wine Room was fitted into an existing fireplace space, turning the visually unappealing sore thumb of the room into a magnificent show stopping centerpiece. This modern luxury condo on the 31st floor in a downtown San Diego high-rise acted as a very interesting project for the custom wine cellar design team at Vintage Cellars. The modern wine room space has dual paned, insulated glass but because of the nature of glass itself, the cooling unit was recommended to be oversized. The custom wine room space itself didn't have great options for venting the cooling unit due to the location on the 31st floor. The best option to vent was determined to treat the wine room as a wine cabinet, per se. The Cooling Unit, a CellarPro 1800 XTS, was placed in the ceiling, venting down cool air and circulating vented air back upward. The result works perfectly for a uniquely modern and contemporary space such as this. This fully enclosed, glass front custom wine cellar boasts a 300 bottle capacity with a sleek, modern, label forward feel that ULTRA Wine Peg racking is known for. The center section is a double stacked full reveal display row, showcasing some of the homeowner's finer wines. Though no particular space was made within the wine racking area, the design of this modern custom wine cellar was pushed back a couple of feet so that wine case storage could be an option between the glass front and the custom racking. Additionally, the clean feel goes even further upon looking for the entrance into this wine cellar. The flat panel on the furthest left side opens slowly and almost magically when pushed in slightly.
