A new slipper tub was placed where used to be dead space behind small shower area, offering space for large double vanity space as well. A built-in cabinetry with spa look was taken over south wall given more storage. The wise selection of light color wood plank floor tile contrasting with chrome fixtures, subway wall tiles and flower pattern shower floor creates a soothing bath space.

The design plan for this formal two story living room began with the three large paintings leaning against the wall and a request to not interrupt the view of the exceptional outdoor space. The client's initial desire was for white leather furniture, but she wanted traditional lines and not the ultra-modern selections available. We presented the low profile, brilliantly white velvet conversation sofa, whose angles followed the lines of the curved windows. Is it wise the have a white velvet sofa with two very active children in the home? Well it is when the designer has the fabric pre-treated to resist stick fingers and accidental spills. The sofa was paired with chairs customized in a black and white pin stripped velvet to coordinate with the artwork. Glass and chrome tables show off the new ebony hardwood flooring while teal and fuchsia standout and repeat the accent colors in the paintings. Although the outdoor view is great, this room puts on quite a show as well!

Our client who we created this zen-like theater for was on a strict budget, but still wanted a space to enjoy a theater experience in a small group setting. We turned an unfinished space into a gorgeous, complete theater, included art and accessories, and did not have to sacrifice quality! Wise decisions when we designed the project - including creating detailed columns with drywall and moldings, selecting stylish light fixtures and substituting built-in cabinets with a one of a kind chest - led to us coming in right at our client's budget. Needless to say, our client was thrilled!

The condo located on Franklin St. in Old Town Alexandria, is in a building that had recently been converted from commercial to residential and needed staging to help potential buyers visualize the space as a home. We were happy to help! level of the condo is approximately 350 square feet so we selected furnishings that would maximize space and demonstrate how homeowners could use it wisely. Decor and You DC supplied everything: furniture, lighting, artwork, rugs, accessories, and bedding. There was no yard in the front of the unit, but we were able to create a small court yard area with a cozy seating area for two. The condo looks great now and we think it won’t be long before it sells!

The client is a commercial designer by trade, so she was able to grasp and, in some cases, directly purchase precisely what she wanted style-wise. She chose the fantastic lighting fixture above the freestanding tub, and the beautiful wood and granite mixed vanity with black farmhouse-style faucets. The barn door entry was quite a find! She discovered it at an antique store. Admittedly, it was quite beaten up and dirty. We pulled the glass off, cleaned it up, stained it, and then we put it all back together. She talentedly selected most everything; we merely followed her drawings and wishes. Since she is a designer, she has a keen attention to detail. Many things had to be custom made, which takes more time and effort. The results, though, are breathtaking and worth it!

We created a full landscape renovation for front, side and backyard for a couple with a contemporary home in Arvada, Colorado utilizing water saving principles, a low voltage outdoor lighting system, and custom rockery and plant selections with new retaining wall construction and drainage solution.

Inspiration for a timeless family room remodel in Austin

We removed all of the cement entry way and custom-designed a modern cement pathway to the front door and back yard. Designed and installed a minimalist garden with drought tolerant plants. Created a river bed, and added large moss boulders, giving the garden texture. Selected 3 large modern cement pots to complement the design. Irrigation was modified, and the pots are drip irrigated for ease of maintenance.

The client had a deep pantry closet which made it difficult to see what was in the back. In order to decide on what custom pullout drawer depths they wanted, they took everything out of their existing pantry and measured the items they wanted to group together, for instance, canned cat food, stacked two deep. Or in another high back pull out, oils and vinegars. Then they selected the depth drawers they wanted, and we custom-ordered drawers to the width of the pantry and the depth. So now everything is in its place and everything has its place. They especially love the wide custom spice drawer as they can fit 40+ spices in there. Now their pantry is uniquely suited to their needs and is also much more efficient in its use of space both vertically and depth-wise.

The 5,000 square foot private residence is located in the community of Horseshoe Bay, above the shores of Lake LBJ, and responds to the Texas Hill Country vernacular prescribed by the community: shallow metal roofs, regional materials, sensitive scale massing and water-wise landscaping. The house opens to the scenic north and north-west views and fractures and shifts in order to keep significant oak, mesquite, elm, cedar and persimmon trees, in the process creating lush private patios and limestone terraces. The Owners desired an accessible residence built for flexibility as they age. This led to a single level home, and the challenge to nestle the step-less house into the sloping landscape. Full height glazing opens the house to the very beautiful arid landscape, while porches and overhangs protect interior spaces from the harsh Texas sun. Expansive walls of industrial insulated glazing panels allow soft modulated light to penetrate the interior while providing visual privacy. An integral lap pool with adjacent low fenestration reflects dappled light deep into the house. Chaste stained concrete floors and blackened steel focal elements contrast with islands of mesquite flooring, cherry casework and fir ceilings. Selective areas of exposed limestone walls, some incorporating salvaged timber lintels, and cor-ten steel components further the contrast within the uncomplicated framework. The Owner’s object and art collection is incorporated into the residence’s sequence of connecting galleries creating a choreography of passage that alternates between the lucid expression of simple ranch house architecture and the rich accumulation of their heritage.
