Where warmer temperatures and drier conditions make seasonal displays of cut evergreens a non-starter, create a winter windowbox that’s planted with lots of greenery in shades from emerald to lime and add a few seasonal touches. Here a bed of ivy (looks great year round) is tricked-out with white cyclamen, potted-up yellow peppers, and a few winter pansies. Can’t find peppers? Swap in fresh citrus such as kumquats. We think this one’s made for twinkle lights!

This is an example of a refinished kitchen island that has been painted in an opaque pale gray satin finish by the talented artists of AH & Co. from Montclair, NJ.

This combination of Andersen casement windows with short fractional grilles adds unique character while bringing the outdoors inside.

Welcome to the coziest corner of a log cabin on Lake Anna. This project was so fun and darling. First came the layout: We installed a wall of glass blocks between the front door and the living room. Before our redesign, you had 3 choices to make right when you walked in the front door: walk down a short hallway to the kitchen, walk upstairs, or walk into the living room. By walling off the living room option, we funneled the entry energy down the short hallway to the kitchen, and we made the living room a cozy destination and not just another passage way through the house to the kitchen!
Why did we use glass blocks? Because this log cabin has an eclectic mid-century modern twist and glass blocks are cool and interesting. It also gives a teaser of the living room when you enter the house.
Everything else we accomplished in this project includes: new flooring, paint, new light fixtures, new window treatments, and all newly selected vintage furniture, new furniture and pillows, rugs, art, and decor!

Sony invited Babak Hakakian, partner and creative director for the ddc luxury furniture store, to design two rooms that showcase the new 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector. Hakakian created a comfortable, family-focused entertainment living room and an inspiring and enthralling creative study at New York City’s famous Waterfall Mansion. Watch the video for details how the creative director used the projector’s stunning 4K Ultra HD image and unobtrusive design to transform the two spaces in very different ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnv85zK0jY4

The owners acquired an adjacent property and called on our firm and a team of consultants to join the properties into one seamless private park like setting complete with a Pool Pavilion and Pool.
A study of light and space, The Pavilion offers different experiences at different times of the day. The optimum display of light and transparency occurs at dusk. At that hour, one can catch the reflections in the pool and the glowing of this small jewel within in the landscape.
Amenities include an air conditioned lounging area with TV and kitchen/bar, a laundry and changing room, a private bathroom with shower, an additional outdoor shower and a full basement for storage of pool toys and equipment.
The contemporary approach combines rich woods, stainless steel, and concrete with marble, glass tile and natural stones. Cedar shingles, a nod to the main house, recede into the landscape while the soaring glass windows and doors flood the space with light and views back into the landscape. The building also features a bead board ceiling and exposed structure. This blend of materials yields a sophisticated modern design that is calm and cheerful while providing conditioned entertaining space for the Owner’s family and friends.
The client gushes “I feel like I am transported-- on vacation-- every time I open the doors and enter the space.”
