I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful family for a year and a half, to redesign the whole house (gut renovation), consisting of 23 rooms and 9 baths in a 'Rambling Ranch' style of 8,000 square ft. What fun we had! Some of the custom details include a mahogany inlaid entry door made to spec by a wood artisan in Colorado, a painted silver and gold gilded entry dome that holds a 150lb Chandelier, imported hand painted wallpaper direct from Shanghai China for the Dining Room walls and two custom curved sectionals in the Living Room. The Living Room also boasts a beautiful custom-made Ebony wood 8 ft round coffee table. Venetian plaster rubbed with a pearlescent glaze is a highlight in the powder room on the first floor, and on the walls of the Master Suite to give it a restful, ethereal atmosphere. ~ Denise Wenacur allied ASID assoc. Driftwood Residence is a full-house renovation designed for a family of six, transforming an existing structure into a contemporary, multifunctional home built for long-term living. The project reimagines circulation, natural light, and material expression while preserving the essence of the original house. The renovation reorganizes all three levels. The basement was redesigned to include four children’s bedrooms and a shared playroom with custom built-ins. On the main floor, the guest bedroom was planned as a future primary suite for aging in place. The living area, previously defined by asymmetrical windows and an offset fireplace, was reconfigured to create a balanced and functional layout. The new second floor was built after reconstructing the roof, adding a complete master level with a bedroom, ensuite bathroom, walk-in closet, and a private terrace illuminated by large skylights. The interior design reflects the clients’ preference for a darker, warmer palette. Materials include dark oak, silver travertine, and backlit onyx, supported by a lighting strategy of indirect LED accents for depth and atmosphere. Two original wood-burning fireplaces were integrated into the new design, and the existing wine cellar was preserved and expanded for the clients’ lifestyle. The result is a home that feels renewed and cohesive—combining contemporary design, functional planning, and materials that age gracefully over time.

Inspiration for a contemporary home design remodel in New York

This home office started as a blank room and needed the capability for three people to have their own workspaces but keeping in mind the potential for this space to be a game room in the future. The cased opening was changed to a pair of transitional French doors with clear glass to keep an open feel but providing a private work space. The natural light coming into the room from the windows needed to be an uninterrupted element, therefore the stationary drapery panels were mounted outside the windows to frame them. Custom cabinets were designed to incorporate drawer storage, shelving storage, TV mounting and decorative display. The continuous quartz countertop gives an additional multi-use workspace. All of these dual-function cabinet elements can be transitioned from office to game room when required. The acrylic and chrome cabinet hardware was a new release and gives a modern touch to the space. The client also had a pair of vintage family chests that they wanted to incorporate into the space so we updated them with a new coat of grey paint and had new Carrara marble tops fabricated with a traditional ogee edge. The acrylic hardware is consistent with the vintage chest but gives an updated modern flare. The sleek L-shaped white desks provide a neutral but modern look with ample workspace. White leather desk chairs give the comfort of an office chair but the modern style that the client desired.

Primary bathroom renovation. **Window glass was frosted after most photos were taken, but had been done before this photo.** Window frosted to 2/3 height for privacy, but allowing plenty of light and a beautiful sky and tree top view. Navy, gray, and black are balanced by crisp whites and light wood tones. Eclectic mix of geometric shapes and organic patterns. Featuring 3D porcelain tile from Italy, hand-carved geometric tribal pattern in vanity's cabinet doors, hand-finished industrial-style navy/charcoal 24x24" wall tiles, and oversized 24x48" porcelain HD printed marble patterned wall tiles. Flooring in waterproof LVP, continued from bedroom into bathroom and closet. Brushed gold faucets and shower fixtures. Authentic, hand-pierced Moroccan globe light over tub for beautiful shadows for relaxing and romantic soaks in the tub. Vanity pendant lights with handmade glass, hand-finished gold and silver tones layers organic design over geometric tile backdrop. Open, glass panel all-tile shower with 48x48" window (glass frosted after photos were taken). Shower pan tile pattern matches 3D tile pattern. Arched medicine cabinet from West Elm. Separate toilet room with sound dampening built-in wall treatment for enhanced privacy. Frosted glass doors throughout. Vent fan with integrated heat option. Tall storage cabinet for additional space to store body care products and other bathroom essentials. Original bathroom plumbed for two sinks, but current homeowner has only one user for this bathroom, so we capped one side, which can easily be reopened in future if homeowner wants to return to a double-sink setup.
