This client’s vision for their kitchen/hearth room remodel was to create a harmonious space for gathering and socializing with family and friends. Without the before and after photos, you would scarcely believe this was the same home. Contact us today to discuss Translating Your Visions into Reality The client was interested in new appliance technology, cabinetry to the ceiling, and an Island large enough to seat 3. They also wanted a built-in breakfast nook, improved pantry space, more functional storage on either side of their fireplace, and a built-in appearance for the TV above the mantel. The original built-in desk was not used, and they preferred for that space to serve as a small bar area with refrigeration and a place to store their printer. We designed several plans for the space before selecting the final layout. The new design required the removal of the soffit over the old sink, as well as a small wall beside the old refrigerator. The wall beside the stairwell had to be shortened 13 inches and a new beam installed to carry the load of the home’s 2nd story to gain enough space for the large central island. The existing closet pantry walls were also reconfigured as per the new plan. This serves as a great reminder that Dimensions In Wood is much more than just custom cabinets. Central to the entire custom kitchen is an 8-foot Walnut island. The huge island, which comfortably seats three, is topped with Essenza Blue quartzite. The stone’s natural striations are beautiful. Quartzite is harder than granite, and less likely to stain than other stones because of its density. The couple had to look through multiple slabs to find a piece they LOVED. The island’s custom Walnut cabinetry, built to resemble a piece of custom furniture, was stained Bronzed Walnut by Sherwin Williams. The 4-foot Galley Workstation in the island, handles all the kitchen’s prep, serving, and cleanup needs. The Galley’s culinary tools include an upper tier cutting board, upper tier drying rack, 2 lower tier platforms, 11″ colander with non-slip handles, and 11” mixing bowl with lid and non-slip bottom. Learn more about the amazing Galley Workstation here. A Waterstone gantry faucet in a pewter finish combines a pull-down sprayer for maximum mobility and a articulated swivel spout. A water tap with reverse osmosis filter provides the highest quality drinking water. To keep a clean and sleek counter we installed a raised air switch for the garbage disposal and integrated soap dispenser. The island also houses the Thermador Sapphire 7-Program Dishwasher with a hidden touch control panel and a custom Walnut wood front. The cabinetry under the Galley Workstation features a trash roll out, as well as storage for the culinary tools. Shortening the stairwell wall, and reframing around the stairs, which included shortening the handrail, also made room for a bi-fold door walk-in pantry with extra roll out storage and space for a small microwave. Above the panty doors is a remote controlled, electric motor powered, lift up cabinet door which hides a flat screen TV, used while the family is cooking. To the right of the walk-in pantry is cold food storage. The Thermador, 30-inch Freedom Collection refrigerator and 24-inch built-in freezer column with internal ice maker are covered with matching cabinetry fronts. An open display space was designed above the units, creating an aesthetically beautiful wall. To the right of the refrigerator & freezer columns is a tall cabinet designed for the built-in Thermador steam and convection oven. The convention steam oven is a relatively new technology for homes, but its versatility and food quality is amazing. To the right of this is a pull-out appliance pantry which provides easy access and storage for a stand mixer, blender, and any other appliance you do not want to clutter the counter. The most visible wall of the kitchen features the 36-inch Thermador Professional Series Harmony Gas Range with Griddle. Between the range and custom designed wood hood, a framed mosaic tile accent in the backsplash, creates a focal point. To clear the air, the Professional Series Thermador 42-inch ventilation insert provides excellent exhaust capabilities, as well as providing multi-level, vivid LED lights for beautiful illumination. The wall cabinetry symmetrically flanks the custom hood, utilizing deeper wall cabinetry on each end, allowing for storage of oversized dishware. The base cabinetry on this wall is made up of drawers, except for the corner, which is a Kesseböhmer LeMans II. This specially designed shelf system allows ease of access in underutilized blind corners. The dual action articulation system with soft close mechanism ensures a smooth open and close. Rounding the corner to the outside wall, the base cabinetry was built to a narrower depth, providing additional space for the island, as well as easier access to the new larger pass-thru window which serves the screen porch. The client selected Black Vermont granite countertops with an ogee edge to contrast the Linen White painted cabinetry. The door to the screen porch was replaced with a Marvin Exterior Door with a raised panel at the bottom of the 3⁄4 glass door. Marvin Windows replaced the other windows in the space increasing the energy efficiency and value of the home. To establish the breakfast nook, a bench with drawers and an upholstered seat was built into the bay area of the room. Custom bookshelves were built with open shelves, cabinet doors, and drawers on either side of the fireplace. A new stone hearth and fireplace surround were installed. Above the existing mantel we built a recessed space for the flat screen television hiding all wiring inside the walls for a completely clean look. The space that was once a desk was transformed into a bar area. The glass shelves and glass cabinet front liquor cabinet stand out. But this bar area has hidden secrets. Tucked beneath the black granite is a Thermador under-counter double drawer refrigerator with matching wood front panels. They blend in perfectly with the cabinets. A wireless printer is easily accessed on a slide out drawer. Plus, what looks like merely wooden panels on the wall are concealing recessed storage for more bottles and glasses! Overhead recessed lighting and speaker system provide illumination and entertainment through the entire space. This luxury home had original, solid oak flooring through most of the first floor which the homeowner obviously wanted to keep but were in desperate need of repair and refinishing. Our master craftsmen wove in new wood flooring to match the old where needed, particularly where walls had been changed and where the floor was damaged. We sanded the floors, smoothing away years of wear and tear. The entire wood floor was then uniformly stained, making it impossible to differentiate where any repairs were made. The sink base features two full extension rollouts that handle trash and recyclables in the front and have divided storage for cleaning supplies in the back. No more getting on your hands and knees to access this cabinet. Idea found in Fine Homebuilding magazine. Small tilt drawer holds sponges. The raised panel, French blue cabinets are finished with a dark brown glazing. Kitchens are constantly referred to as the “center or heart” of the home. This kitchen is truly the center of this home and full of heart! Living space on each end of this kitchen and an entry to the lower level-challenged our designer with opening this kitchen to more light and workable space. That wasn’t even the full extent of challenges-this kitchen in order to gain more space also needed to house the laundry. Combining two rooms into one cohesive space for the daily task of cooking and laundry put Roeser to the test. Our team made sure every inch was not only workable but also provided the most storage space as well. After solving these requests, there was just one more request……a television for Dad, the only thing he asked for. We believe our design team nailed it and our craftsman brought it to life! Wellborn Select Harmony Maple Cabinets in a Sandstone finish brightened the surround of the once dark kitchen and the same cabinet style in a Sienna Charcoal finish created the island adding warmth and depth to the space. From the neutral tones, the space “pops” with color in the backsplash. Using a combination of tiles, the backsplash came together with three tile favorites adding interest and color. Two rows of AE “Tongue in Chic” 2 ½” X 10 ½” in Latte are followed by one row or AE “Man About You” Mademoiselle Gloss Bar liner and then PMI Tara Blend Lantern from the countertop to bottom of the wall cabinets. Two new ViWincoCasement Windows added to the newness of the space and provide a beautiful view from their kitchen. In addition, 5” LED can lights, Xenon under counter lights, and two island pendant lights, all on dimmers, provide all the lighting necessary for either task or ambiance lighting. Century “Estate Plank” pre-finish hardwood flooring was installed in a straight pattern grounded the space adding to its beauty.New stainless steel appliances include a GE cabinet depth French door refrigerator, GE dishwasher with top controls, 30” Sharp microwave drawer, and a Jen-Aire30” range finishes out all the modern conveniences. A custom corner cabinet, built in the Roeser mill-shop, housed the television and provided storage above. Laundry is hidden in a banquet of cabinets with slide back doors. The Bosch Compact washer and dryer front loaders in white area perfect fit. The long countertop matching the rest of the kitchen in the 3 cm Snowfall Granite provides plenty of room for folding clothes.

The small nook off the family room is the gentlemen's bar, complete with a hammered copper vessel sink with a handle like a bucket, natural stone and glass backsplash, wine cellar, dishwasher for all the bar glasses and an under-counter refrigerator. The design on the cabinets was carefully chosen with the diamond mullions to continue with the Adirondack theme and with the chiseled edge on the granite. As luxurious as the home is, don't forget it is in the mountains among acreage and private lots full of multiple walking trails that are not for the faint of heart. BEFORE PHOTO: Part of an extensive home remodel, this kitchen design was born of one man’s love of all things Harley Davidson. Color inspiration came from the client’s own cherished bike which was a stunning combination of matte black and brushed steel. The client’s wish was to have a large open area in which he could “be one with his guests” when hosting large gatherings. Cabinets, hardware and appliances all in black allow the focus to be on the beauty of the larger architectural elements as a whole. Included along the main storage wall is a hidden 42” refrigerator, dual pull-out pantries, and extra wide drawers below a pair of upper cabinets with matte black glass fold-up doors that open & close automatically via servo-drive technology. The new island - which measures just shy of 16 ½ feet! - is a true central point around which all action revolves. Wide walkways on either side provide ease of flow for multiple sous chefs and guests alike. A textured cypress soffit above the island was designed to house the modern hood and also create a feeling of unity as it is the same size as the island below. Textured cypress wood also wraps matte black cabinetry and lines the main wall, changing grain direction to provide visual interest. The 5’ Galley Workstation is a multi-functional marvel, easily transitioning from prep station to serving surface to clean-up with the addition of its built-in accessories. Placing an undercounter wine refrigerator on the back side of the island makes it easy for guests at the bar to help themselves. Close to the bar seating area, a 42” flat screen tv fits perfectly flush in the wall, practically disappearing when not in use. Unique details include a large display cabinet with a metal framed front & side crafted out of steel by a local artisan. The glass is 2-way mirror so when the interior light is off, the treasure is concealed inside. The interior is painted in the trademark Harley orange. Above a modern dining table, a one-of-a-kind chandelier was created from 3 bike helmets, painted in Harley orange by a local automobile detail shop. The interiors are finished in metallic silver for extra glow. Adjacent to the Kitchen, and initially deceiving in its simplicity, the main tv wall was quite complex and challenging to realize. It has a convex curve from left to right and slopes back from floor to ceiling. The interior hollow space created room for a shallow tv niche on top and partially recessed deep media storage cabinets below. The planning and framing involved to create the proper compound miter connections required extra diligence from the designers and builder, but the finished product was worth the effort! Completed in 2019, this is a home we completed for client who initially engaged us to remodeled their 100 year old classic craftsman bungalow on Seattle’s Queen Anne Hill. During our initial conversation, it became readily apparent that their program was much larger than a remodel could accomplish and the conversation quickly turned toward the design of a new structure that could accommodate a growing family, a live-in Nanny, a variety of entertainment options and an enclosed garage – all squeezed onto a compact urban corner lot. Project entitlement took almost a year as the house size dictated that we take advantage of several exceptions in Seattle’s complex zoning code. After several meetings with city planning officials, we finally prevailed in our arguments and ultimately designed a 4 story, 3800 sf house on a 2700 sf lot. The finished product is light and airy with a large, open plan and exposed beams on the main level, 5 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, 2 powder rooms, 2 fireplaces, 4 climate zones, a huge basement with a home theatre, guest suite, climbing gym, and an underground tavern/wine cellar/man cave. The kitchen has a large island, a walk-in pantry, a small breakfast area and access to a large deck. All of this program is capped by a rooftop deck with expansive views of Seattle’s urban landscape and Lake Union. Unfortunately for our clients, a job relocation to Southern California forced a sale of their dream home a little more than a year after they settled in after a year project. The good news is that in Seattle’s tight housing market, in less than a week they received several full price offers with escalator clauses which allowed them to turn a nice profit on the deal.

This beautiful combination of rooms was part of a whole house design that we put together to flow within the owner’s overall vision of modern style and functionality. THE SETUP The house was partially built when the owner purchased it, so we tweaked the layout to fit his needs. Like so many homeowners today, our client is a casual diner and would rather not have space dedicated as a formal dining room. Island seating and a large table off the kitchen make more sense for his lifestyle. Our client wanted a clean, contemporary look with a layout that works for one person preparing meals most of the time, but adaptable for entertaining at different scales at other times. THE RENEWED SPACE The first thing we did was design a bar in the space formerly designated for a formal dining room. It is open to the front entry foyer on one side and flows easily into the butler’s pantry on the other side. A TV for sports viewing is centered between a full-sized wine cooler and a glass cabinet for barware. The u-shaped bar top seats five people comfortably and hides the lower bar prep countertop from view from the entry. The butler’s pantry is situated between the kitchen eating area and the front bar. The walls on the sides of this area were opened to help the areas flow together into one great room. An icemaker and under-counter refrigerator drawers were incorporated into the butler’s pantry to help it function as a place to set up drinks etc. to be used in the kitchen eating area. The floating shelves also helped open the space up. Across from the butler’s area is a clean contemporary powder room with indirect lighting below floating cabinetry to complete the look. The kitchen uses an array of man-made materials for ease of maintenance and durability. The layout includes a perfect work triangle for a one-cook kitchen with all the amenities. A range with double ovens, a built-in microwave and a warming drawer are all conveniently located. The countertop is a man-made quartz that looks like rugged concrete. The refrigerator and freezer are below a decorative niche, which gives them a furniture-type appearance. Across from the kitchen is a family room with a fireplace surrounded by a quartz material and wooden wall panels that match the kitchen’s countertop and refrigerator cabinetry. THE RENEWED SPACE The overall effect is a beautiful area with separate spaces for living life comfortably and artistically. Everything flows together, facilitating life’s daily needs and a wide range of purposeful gatherings with family and friends.
